Chapter 378: Chapter 184: Some Face (Part 2)
Feng Xianzhi’s expression changed. Just as he was about to speak, a voice drifted over:
“Association Head Yan, I didn’t expect we’d meet again so soon.”
Yan Wushuang smiled the moment she heard the voice, not the least bit surprised.
She had been in Evergreen Mansion for quite some time, so she’d naturally taken note of Jiang Ran’s arrival today.
She knew he was at Qifeng Manor.
She immediately cupped her fist and said:
“Young Hero Jiang, you’ve come at the perfect time. You can be the judge for me.
“Today, I was hunting a thief. After great difficulty, I finally found the scoundrel’s trail, but I never expected him to be so cunning as to escape my net.
“I followed his trail all the way here, finally tracking him to Qifeng Manor.
“I figured that once inside the manor, he wouldn’t just behave himself. He would surely resume his thieving ways.
“That’s why I rushed in to catch him… but to my surprise, Manor Lord Feng has been obstructing me at every turn. This is absurd!”
Seeing Yan Wushuang greet Jiang Ran with a broad smile the moment he arrived, Feng Xianzhi felt all the more that there was more to Jiang Ran than met the eye.
To be the master of Xuanyuan One Slash at such a young age, and to also make the dignified Vice Head of the Hundred Treasures Association greet him with such a warm smile.
‘This man… is even more unfathomable than I imagined.’
Jiang Ran, however, said with a smile:
“In that case, it does seem that Manor Lord Feng is in the wrong.”
Feng Xianzhi’s expression turned pained.
“Young Hero Jiang, this…”
Jiang Ran waved his hand.
“Manor Lord Feng, don’t be anxious. Actually, Association Head Yan is correct. A thief did indeed enter Qifeng Manor today.”
Yan Wushuang’s eyes lit up. “You saw him?”
“I did.”
Jiang Ran nodded.
Feng Xianzhi was stunned. “A thief really got in?”
“The genuine article.”
Jiang Ran said with a serious expression.
“Then please allow me to take this person away, Manor Lord Feng. That way, Qifeng Manor will be kept safe.”
Yan Wushuang spoke up again.
This time, Feng Xianzhi truly hesitated, considering whether to agree.
But then he heard Jiang Ran say with a laugh:
“Association Head Yan, I have a presumptuous request.”
“Young Hero Jiang, please feel free to speak your mind…”
As Yan Wushuang spoke, her long, narrow eyebrows suddenly raised slightly.
“What you want to say… it wouldn’t have anything to do with that Ximen Feng, would it?”
“Precisely.”
Jiang Ran said, “He saved a friend of mine tonight, and that’s how the two of them ended up here. I promised him that as long as he is in Qifeng Manor, I will protect him. I cannot go back on my word.
“I wonder if Association Head Yan would be willing to grant me this small concession.”
Yan Wushuang was taken aback upon hearing this, feeling utterly baffled for a moment.
‘During the day, Jiang Ran didn’t even know who Ximen Feng was, yet by nightfall he’s protecting him?’
Feng Xianzhi was also stunned.
After a moment of contemplation, he found himself impressed with Jiang Ran’s methods.
‘He was being completely open, treating us with sincerity. He promised to protect the man as long as he’s in Qifeng Manor, not for his entire life. Once the man leaves Qifeng Manor, the Hundred Treasures Association can go after him again, and Jiang Ran won’t interfere then. Now, we’ll see if Jiang Ran’s reputation is enough to make Yan Wushuang back down. If things turn ugly, it’ll come down to who’s stronger.’
Thinking this, he looked toward Yan Wushuang.
He saw Yan Wushuang take a deep breath.
“The friend you mentioned, Young Hero Jiang, is that the person with him? I wonder, who is that person…?”
“Does Association Head Yan recall the matter I entrusted to you today?”
Jiang Ran did not elaborate.
It immediately dawned on Yan Wushuang.
“So it’s him… I never thought such a coincidence would occur. I suppose he has some good fortune after all.”
Jiang Ran sighed.
“Even I didn’t expect this.”
“Fine, fine. If it were anyone else, I certainly wouldn’t back down on this matter.
“But since it’s you, Young Hero Jiang… this is a concession I must make.”
Yan Wushuang said:
“But, Young Hero Jiang, we must be clear upfront. As long as this man is within Qifeng Manor, we will pretend not to see him.
“Once he leaves Qifeng Manor, you must not interfere in anything that follows, Young Hero Jiang.”
“Agreed.”
Jiang Ran nodded.
“I am only staying at Qifeng Manor temporarily, and I don’t imagine I’ll be here for long.
“Once I leave, I’m sure Manor Lord Feng won’t allow a thief to linger at Qifeng Manor.”
“Naturally.”
Feng Xianzhi nodded immediately.
“Very well, then.”
Yan Wushuang smiled faintly. “Then it’s settled… Young Hero Jiang, we shall meet again.”
“Wait.”
Jiang Ran suddenly called out.
“Does Young Hero Jiang have any other commands?”
Yan Wushuang glanced at Jiang Ran with a half-smile.
Hearing this, Jiang Ran felt a bit embarrassed.
“Association Head Yan, you exaggerate. How could I dare give commands? I just suddenly thought of something and wanted to ask you about it.”
“What is it? It seems there are quite a few things Young Hero Jiang wishes to inquire about.”
Yan Wushuang’s brows raised slightly.
To be honest, she was not happy about what happened tonight.
But Jiang Ran’s approach made it impossible for her to get truly angry.
The man was so frank; putting herself in his shoes, she could understand him and thus agree to his request.
But understanding was one thing and agreeing was another. On second thought, she still felt a bit vexed, so it was inevitable that her words lacked their previous politeness.
Then she heard Jiang Ran say with a laugh:
“I imagine this won’t be difficult for Association Head Yan. It’s like this…
“Manor Lord Feng here has a son. Previously, he and I were staying at the Qiuci Posthouse, but unexpectedly…”
Jiang Ran briefly explained the situation.
He left out the parts about the Falling Star Pearl and the Sorrow of All Ages, highlighting only that Feng Wu had been harmed by someone and was now suffering from a brain ailment that was difficult to cure.
Finally, he said in a low voice:
“Dare I ask if Association Head Yan knows any famous doctors who could treat this kind of injury?”
