Chapter 449: Chapter 449: The Grand Finale

Before boarding the special plane to Switzerland with Declan Pierce, Tanya Sinclair called Vincent Hawthorne, asking him to take good care of the two children.

"I have to go to Switzerland, and it might take a while."

"Switzerland?" Vincent was a bit surprised, "What are you going there for?"

Realizing he might have overstepped, Vincent paused for a second and said, "If you don’t want to say, just..."

"I’m accompanying Declan Pierce for treatment." Tanya calmly dropped the bombshell.

"..." Vincent was too shocked to speak, "Dec... Declan, he..."

Wasn’t he dead?

"Yes, it’s a bit complicated to explain, but he isn’t dead. However, the situation isn’t optimistic, and I want to be by his side. I’d appreciate it if you could take care of the two kids temporarily."

"...All right." Vincent didn’t say more, "If there’s anything I can do to help, you can let me know anytime."

He genuinely meant it.

"Don’t worry about the two kids, I’ll have them call you regularly."

"Okay, thank you."

Tanya didn’t say more, ending the call. She turned and walked towards Declan, who was waiting nearby, and she took his hand as they boarded the plane.

Declan suddenly smiled silently, his thumb stroking the back of her hand.

"What’s funny?" Tanya asked curiously.

Declan said, "I came here alone, didn’t expect to leave together."

Tanya leaned on his shoulder, "From now on, you’ll never be alone."

Dr. Wells’s collaborated medical research institute was by Valora, quiet and away from the city, suitable for long-term treatment.

Even though Tanya was mentally prepared, the pain of the treatment was still beyond her imagination.

Declan’s body had been through too many cellular reconstructions and drug invasions, leaving his immune system extremely fragile.

The solution Dr. Wells provided was to first repair the organ functions, then gradually restore the immune system.

In theory, it was feasible, but practically, the pain the patient had to endure was unprecedented.

Every time after the drug injection, Declan would get a high fever, curling up in bed, shaking from the pain.

He was such a strong person, yet in the face of such pain, humans have no dignity.

Tanya didn’t dare cry aloud, holding back tears, she sat by his bed, holding his hand all night and wiping his sweat over and over.

Sometimes, in his fever-induced confusion, he would call her name, his voice hoarse like a whisper.

"Tanya..."

"I’m here."

She would always answer him like this.

Hearing her voice, the furrowed brows of Declan would relax a bit.

Time passed slowly, over a year, Declan’s condition went up and down.

When he was well, Tanya could accompany him on walks by the lake, chatting and laughing, as if they could still be carefree for a long time.

But when he was not well, Declan couldn’t sleep all night due to the pain, with painkillers increased from three to five, and finally to seven pills, yet still ineffective.

And his body couldn’t bear the injection-type painkillers anymore. He had to endure it raw.

After a year, the treatment results were not promising.

Declan’s vision didn’t recover, and his hearing continued to deteriorate, his hearing aid already tuned to its maximum.

Every day, Tanya would cry in the bathroom before coming out as if nothing happened, staying by his side.

Once, when Declan was in severe pain and couldn’t stand it, Tanya gave him acupuncture to relieve the pain, with little effect, but to comfort her, he still said it was much better.

Tanya finally couldn’t hold back her tears anymore, hugging him as she cried.

"Declan... why is this so hard?"

She just wanted to grow old with him, live a good life, why is it so hard?

Declan suddenly spoke, his voice so hoarse it was barely audible, "Tanya, do you regret it?"

"Regret what?"

"Regret... coming to find me."

Tanya didn’t answer, biting his shoulder firmly.

She said, "Declan, if you say something like that again, I’ll bite you to death."

Declan smiled slightly, asking no more.

Come the next spring, taking advantage of Declan’s rare deep sleep, Dr. Wells had a conversation with Tanya.

He took out a stack of test reports, looking very solemn.

"I’m sorry, Ms. Sinclair, this round of treatment didn’t achieve the results we expected. Mr. Pierce’s body has reached its limit, continuing the treatment will only increase the pain, and won’t result in substantial improvement."

In just one year, Dr. Wells also aged a lot, admitting his helplessness in the face of fate.

Tanya had already known this as well.

Being a doctor herself, she witnessed Declan’s condition every day. She had known it for a long time, she just refused to accept it.

Tanya clutched the stack of reports, not moving for a long time.

"Stop the treatment." She looked up, meeting Dr. Wells’s eyes, "I want him to have some comfort in the remaining time."

Back in the ward, Declan had already woken up. Hearing her come in, he turned his head slightly.

"Did Wells... find you?"

"Yes."

"What did he say?"

Tanya Sinclair walked to the bedside and sat down. She held his hand, it was cold, with distinct knuckles. She lowered her head to look at his fingers, and it was a while before she spoke.

"Declan Pierce."

"Hmm."

"Shall we go home?"

He quietly curled his lips, "Okay."

He would never refuse her.

Tanya Sinclair didn’t inform anyone in advance, she and Declan Pierce returned to Aris, staying in the old Sinclair family house.

For the remaining time, she selfishly wanted to spend it only with Declan.

They were like an ordinary couple, going grocery shopping, taking walks, cooking together. However, Declan was not in good health and tired easily, so she bought a wheelchair and pushed him around. On good weather days, they would stroll around the campus.

He had become very thin, tired quickly, holding her hand and closing his eyes to rest, breathing lightly.

"I’m sorry, Tanya..." Declan said softly, "I promised to live long, but I can’t make it."

At that time, even holding her was a struggle for him.

Tanya held back her tears, "In our next life, I’ll come collecting."

He smiled and said okay.

That night, Declan was in severe pain.

He gripped her hand tightly, his knuckles turning white, his whole body curled up, forehead covered in a cold sweat.

Tanya sat by the bed, watching him in such pain, her heart felt as if it was being cut with a knife. Finally, she used the pain relief medication Dr. Wells had given her before, injecting the drug directly into a vein for quick relief.

Gradually, he wasn’t in pain anymore, and he couldn’t hold on and fell asleep.

Tanya held him tightly, watching the ceiling all night without closing her eyes.

The next morning, when Declan woke, Tanya was wiping his body, her fingers gently tracing over the protruding bones of his spine.

"Declan." She said softly, "If it’s too much pain, we can stop here."

He had held on for her for a year, and it was enough.

She gently pressed her face against his back and finally couldn’t hold back her tears: "Declan, I don’t want to see you in pain anymore."

He slowly turned to her, touched her face, leaned down to kiss her tear-dampened lashes, and said softly, "Okay."

Tanya’s tears wet his fingers.

The day Declan passed, the weather was beautiful.

Sunlight poured through the window, landing warmly on the bed.

Tanya sat by the bedside, holding his hand.

He said, "Tanya, don’t blame me."

Tanya peeled a mint and fed it into his mouth, but he could no longer taste it.

"I love you, I love you so much, Declan. In our next life, I’ll find you first."

Declan gave a weak smile: "Okay."

When Declan closed his eyes, there was still a trace of a smile on his lips.

Tanya held his hand, felt his fingers gradually loosen, his breathing growing shallow, slower and slower, finally stopping at that moment.

She lowered her head, resting her face on the back of his hand, motionless for a long time.

Tanya buried Declan beside her mother Charlotte Sinclair’s grave, in the position of his wife.

Three months after Declan passed, Tanya went to see Professor Carter, saying she wanted to return to her studies.

Professor Carter was a bit puzzled: "Return to study? Study what?"

"Physics." Tanya said, "I want to start learning physics from scratch."

Professor Carter was stunned for several seconds, finally sighing.

"Tanya, you have such deep achievements in medicine, and now you want to study physics, I’m afraid..."

"Professor Carter, I’ve already decided at Charlotte’s memorial."

Professor Carter knew he couldn’t change her mind and could only nod.

"I’ll contact Professor Taylor for you. He is an authority in the field of physics. With his guidance, you’ll avoid many detours."

"Thank you, Professor Carter."

After becoming a student under Professor Taylor, Tanya did not waste any time, studying harder than anyone else, and as a genius, she learned faster than ordinary people.

In the fifth year, she published her first paper, proposing a new idea on the theoretical model at the quantum level of space-time transformation. It won an international award.

At the award ceremony, many well-known physicists specifically sought her out for discussion at an international academic conference.

Afterwards, Tanya was interviewed by journalists, and they asked her why she chose to cross fields and study physics at almost thirty. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

Tanya looked at the camera, remained silent for a long time, and slowly said: "Because of a person, my life’s true love."

She wanted to see how difficult the path Declan took to love her was.

Moreover, she couldn’t wait for the next life.

In her lifetime, she hoped she could see him again, in his way.

Even if she couldn’t accomplish it, this lifetime she had something to look forward to.

After all, who knows about the future?’
