Chapter 447: Chapter 447: Reunion

Splatter——

Tanya Sinclair’s medicine bag slammed onto the ground. The glass window reflected her face, turning pale in an instant.

She stumbled out of the pharmacy, ignoring the worried calls of the old Chinese doctor behind her.

"Young lady! Your medicine! Hey... slow down!"

The old doctor scratched his head in confusion as he watched the staggering figure rush out the door.

She seemed completely different from the calm and composed girl just moments ago.

"What could possibly happen to make her panic like this?" he couldn’t help but murmur.

Tanya Sinclair rushed towards the old house on the back street. She didn’t acknowledge acquaintances who greeted her along the way. She ran quickly and urgently, sweat forming on her forehead as the cold wind scratched her throat, making it painfully sore.

Tears welled up in her eyes.

She didn’t know why she was crying.

There was only one thought in her mind.

No, to be precise, only one name—Declan Pierce.

He is alive.

The thin, dark figure, the hoarse voice, the person she could hardly recognize as him was indeed Declan Pierce.

She clutched a piece of mint candy tightly in her hand, given to her by a little girl named Tanya, and the sharp edge of the wrapper painfully dug into her palm.

The old house was right in front of her, her heart began to tighten, and it ached.

Tanya Sinclair stopped at the door, took two deep breaths, then used her trembling hands to push open the slightly ajar wooden door and rushed in.

The courtyard was just as she left it, empty and somewhat desolate.

The door of the main house was closed, the windows were dark.

She took one step closer to the door, opened her mouth, but her throat tightened, and the first attempt to call out didn’t come.

Second attempt.

"Declan Pierce."

No response.

She walked closer, her voice louder, trembling as if her soul were shivering.

"Declan Pierce, I know it’s you! You’re not dead, right?"

"Why—"

She couldn’t finish.

She wanted to ask him why he was hiding from her, but the answer was right in front of her.

Smart as she was, she should have guessed long ago.

The surgery was indeed successful, but the ensuing side effects would make his life unbearable and unrecognizable.

He didn’t want her to see him like that.

So, he left everything to her and chose to leave alone with his solitude...

Tanya Sinclair stood at the closed door, raised her hand to gently rest against it, tears uncontrollably streaming.

"Declan Pierce, who gave you the right to make decisions for me?" she gritted her teeth, rare anger surging through her chest, making even her breathing painful. "Whether I’m willing to accompany you till the end, whether I can accept the side effects of your surgery, that’s my decision!"

"In your eyes, is my love for you so fragile and superficial?"

"I’ve never been a princess, Declan Pierce, you’ve underestimated me."

She pushed the door gently, unsure if it was locked or something was blocking it.

"Declan Pierce." Tanya Sinclair took a deep breath and opened the door.

She pounded on the door board more strongly each time. She hit it hard.

There was no movement inside the house.

"Declan Pierce! Open the door!" Tanya Sinclair screamed, shaking the door board.

The wind blew a few osmanthus tree leaves down, landing at her feet.

The sky had unknowingly turned overcast, the clouds pressed down low, the wind grew stronger, blowing the trees and dry grass in the courtyard to one side.

"Declan Pierce... Open the door."

Tanya Sinclair’s hand slid down the doorboard. She stood at the doorway, closed her eyes briefly, suddenly feeling exhausted.

"Declan Pierce, don’t you want me to forget about you? Just come out and let me see you one last time, and I’ll leave immediately. This lifetime, I’ll forget you completely, completely!"

"..."

Still no response.

"Fine, if you don’t come out, I’ll stand here and wait."

She knew how stubborn he was, but likewise, she wouldn’t spare him either.

Tanya Sinclair stopped knocking on the door. She stood at the doorway, motionless, as if rooted to the ground. Her thin figure swayed in the windstorm heralding the approaching rain, like a kite deeply anchored.

The rain started to fall.

The raindrops grew denser and quicker, Tanya Sinclair stood in the rain, quickly becoming soaked.

She remained motionless, even though a couple of steps forward was the eaves shelter.

The sky darkened, the street lamp at the alley entrance illuminated, its dim light fragmented by the rain curtain.

A black luxury car parked in the rain, Jasper Monroe opened the door, holding a black umbrella, walked into the open courtyard gate and saw Tanya Sinclair’s figure.

He raised his brows slightly, not surprised.

Tanya Sinclair finding out was only a matter of time.

The two of them were equally stubborn.

Tanya Sinclair’s lips froze purple, her vision blurred, her body swayed sideways, she almost fell into the rain, suddenly, a hand steadied her.

Tanya Sinclair squinted slowly at the incoming figure, the rain blurred her sight, she could only make out the silhouette.

But one look was enough to recognize who it was.

"Jasper Monroe..."

He was one of Declan Pierce’s few friends.

She had met him a couple of times.

"Mm, long time no see, Ms. Sinclair." Aiden Monroe held an umbrella over her head, shielding her from the torrential rain.

Once she steadied herself, he withdrew his hand, adjusted his glasses.

"You knew earlier..." Tanya Sinclair stared intensely at him.

Aiden Monroe rarely felt guilty, he avoided Tanya Sinclair’s gaze, suddenly leaned closer to her ear, whispered, "If you want him out, force won’t work."

Tanya Sinclair’s eyes widened slightly, before she could react, Jasper Monroe knocked on the door.

"Declan Pierce." He said, "Open the door."

Inside there was naturally no response.

Jasper Monroe patiently waited a few seconds, then said, "She’s fainted outside. If you don’t open soon, I’ll take her directly to the hospital, but you should know her character well enough. After she wakes up, there might only be resentment towards you. Are you sure you can accept that result?"

Suddenly a faint sound came from the room, the latch was pulled from inside, the tightly closed door finally slowly opened.

A tall, thin figure stood in the dark behind the doorway.

Tanya Sinclair felt her breath pause.

Declan Pierce’s figure appeared before her, he raised his sleeve, a gaunt hand slowly removed his hat brim, revealing a face tortured by illness to the point of being unrecognizable.

He faced Tanya Sinclair’s direction, but those originally beautiful, deep eyes were now blank, unfocused.

Tanya Sinclair trembled all over, walked up to Declan Pierce.

"Tanya..." he spoke, his voice husky like sandpaper scraping wood, impossible to discern its previous tone.

"How did it come to this?" She struggled to suppress her sobs, gently cradling his face, she could feel the bones beneath his skin, "Declan Pierce, how could it come to this?"

How could he be tormented like this?

"It’s okay, it doesn’t hurt." Declan Pierce tenderly comforted her.

In the next second, Tanya Sinclair crashed into his arms, her rain-soaked body icy and chilling, but her sobbing tears warm and blazing, seemingly burning him.

Declan Pierce silently held her tighter, sighing softly.

"If I knew it would make you cry so much, I wouldn’t have come... Sorry, Tanya." He embraced her, his chin gently resting on her head.

The person in his arms cried until she was trembling all over.

"Declan Pierce, don’t push me away anymore, this is your last chance!"

"..."

Declan Pierce slowly closed his eyes, not in surrender to fate, but to her.

"Alright..."
