Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back
Chapter 441: The Child Is Missing
Chapter 441: Chapter 441: The Child Is Missing
Felix Kendall leaned against the door frame and didn’t move.
He silently watched Declan Pierce sitting there.
The cold moonlight seeped in through the window cracks, illuminating his back and shoulders—wide and thin, angular and bony. A breeze blew in, and Felix Kendall watched as Declan Pierce gently flattened the drawing paper in front of him, as if it were a treasure.
He saw it clearly; the woman Declan Pierce drew, of course, he didn’t even need to look, wouldn’t be anyone other than Tanya Sinclair.
Felix Kendall lazily lit a cigarette.
"You called me over and let me know you’re still alive; surely it wasn’t just to have me deliver medicine to Tanya Sinclair, was it?"
Declan Pierce stood up and walked towards him: "There’s something I want you to do."
"Say it."
"She’s alone, I’m not at peace."
Felix Kendall looked amused by him.
"That’s Tanya Sinclair, not a porcelain doll. You’ve had her concocted to go to Pyralis, then faked your death to escape, and she survived all that. Now, in such a small town, you worry she can’t handle it?"
Declan Pierce was silent for a while, then said softly, "That’s not what I mean."
"..." Felix Kendall caught on.
He meant, ’She’s alone, I’m not at peace.’
"Princess she..." Declan Pierce started, his lips curled slightly at the word Princess, but in the next moment, he corrected himself, saying, "Tanya’s heart is soft, just stay with her, use some devious methods to make her used to you."
Felix Kendall tossed aside the cigarette in his hand and stamped it out with a foot.
He stared expressionlessly at Declan Pierce in front of him.
"Are you teaching me how to pursue Tanya Sinclair?"
"You like her." Declan Pierce’s tone was flat, like stating the weather was bad today. He paused, and said hoarsely, "And I have already died..."
He said, "To Tanya, I am already a dead man."
No way could he let her spend a lifetime with a dead man.
That was never his intention.
He wanted his Princess to be happy.
Even if it had nothing to do with him, from the start, he hadn’t thought of accompanying her until old age, of receiving her love.
Felix Kendall silently gazed at him.
The moonlight fell on the man’s brows and eyes, so thin that his cheeks sunk in, the eye sockets deep like a pair of wells. Those eyes were blank, unfocused, filled with layers of mist.
Felix Kendall clenched his fists, a wave of nameless fury.
"What gives you the right to make decisions for her? And what gives you the right to make decisions for me?"
"Whatever The Kendall Family wants, I can give." Declan Pierce said blandly, "I just think, if someone must accompany her for the rest of her life, if it’s you, I won’t worry."
Felix Kendall didn’t respond. He took a deep breath, turned to walk out. As he pushed open the wooden door, he paused to glance sideways.
"Declan Pierce."
Declan Pierce did not answer.
Felix Kendall sneered, "You think you understand Tanya Sinclair?"
Declan Pierce was slightly stunned.
Felix Kendall slammed the door and walked away, striding across the courtyard, boots grinding over the bluestone slabs. Sweet osmanthus tree leaves were blown down by the wind, a few landing on his shoulders.
He got into the car but didn’t start the engine immediately, leaned back on the seat, turned to glance at that window. Still dark.
He felt restless, smashed a fist onto the steering wheel, the abrupt sound in the night was sharp, drawing the barking of a few startled dogs.
Felix Kendall started the engine, backed the car out of the alley, and drove off.
Tanya Sinclair sneezed.
She rubbed her nose, recalled how her daughter Joy had said seriously before, that sneezing meant someone was thinking of her.
Tanya Sinclair smiled silently, stood up and closed the window tight.
The late spring night breeze carried dampness, sneaking in through the window cracks and cool on the skin. Just as she sat back down, the door was anxiously knocked.
"Ms. Sinclair! Ms. Sinclair!"
She recognized the voice as Leo, the class president in her class.
Tanya Sinclair hurried to open the door, seeing Leo running with sweat, followed by a woman.
Tanya Sinclair recognized Buddy’s mom, Mrs. Crawford. Known for her loud voice, sometimes when Buddy misbehaves, her scolding can be heard down the street.
But at this moment, Mrs. Crawford’s eyes were red, hands twisted together, she almost cried upon seeing Tanya Sinclair.
"Ms. Sinclair, please help me."
"What happened, Mrs. Crawford? Speak slowly." Tanya Sinclair quickly welcomed them in.
Leo, gasping for breath, said: "Ms. Sinclair, it’s Buddy who’s missing! His mom has been looking for him for two hours!"
Mrs. Crawford’s voice shook as she spoke: "He came back with his test paper in the afternoon, didn’t do well in math, I scolded him a couple of times. He threw a tantrum, said he was going to find his dad, I thought he was just saying it out of spite. But he didn’t come back for dinner, I asked around, and everyone said they hadn’t seen him. Ms. Sinclair, Buddy usually listens to you the most, did he come to see you?"
Tanya Sinclair got serious; a missing child was no trivial matter.
She shook her head and said: "No. He didn’t come here this afternoon."
Mrs. Crawford blamed herself, pounding her feet and chest.
"I shouldn’t have scolded him! If something happens to him, how can I explain it to his father! His dad works away, only comes home once a year. The night before last, the kid was talking about his dad, saying he wanted to go eat KFC with him, I ignored him... it’s all my fault!"
"Please don’t be too anxious." Tanya Sinclair soothed Mrs. Crawford while organizing the situation calmly, "I’ll go to the police station to file a report! Then gather the townspeople to help search, Buddy might be hiding somewhere. The town is full of acquaintances, the child won’t be in real danger."
With Tanya Sinclair’s reassurance, Mrs. Crawford calmed down quite a bit.
But when Tanya Sinclair turned her back, her brow furrowed tightly.
Felix Kendall came to this area for a mission, it certainly wouldn’t be peaceful... she didn’t dare mention this to Mrs. Crawford, afraid of scaring her.
Tanya Sinclair forced herself to calm down, advised Mrs. Crawford to go home and wait to avoid the child returning and finding no one there.
Then she had Leo inform the other teachers.
The town only had one police station, Tanya Sinclair was on her way to report, called Felix Kendall, and shortly after, the line connected.
Felix Kendall: "What is it? Haven’t been apart long, and already missing me?"
His words weren’t serious, and Tanya Sinclair didn’t acknowledge him.
"Felix Kendall, what mission are you undertaking in this town? A child from my class has gone missing, I’m a bit worried..."
Concerned about the child, Felix Kendall also became serious.
"Catching a few wanted criminals, they’re all locked up and taken away."
Tanya Sinclair heaved a sigh of relief.
"That’s good. I’ll go look for the child. Hanging up now."
Tanya Sinclair hung up the phone.
On the other end, Felix Kendall in the car frowned, hesitated for a moment, then turned the wheel heading back to the town.
He drove while calling the sub-captain responsible for escorting the prisoners.
But after calling, he waited for a long time, and no one answered.
Felix Kendall’s previously relaxed brow tightened sharply, pressed the gas pedal to the floor...
