Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 473: Quentin Blackwood Learns the Truth of His Mother’s Death, He Is Ivy Sherwood’s True Fiancé
Caleb Blackwood, of course, knew what this was. He struggled to get up, his eyes growing even more bloodshot.
"Ivy Sherwood, didn’t you say you didn’t record it?"
"Going back on my word? I learned that from you."
This was the recording of Ivy Sherwood’s last conversation with Caleb Blackwood. It was crystal clear, and on it, Caleb confessed everything.
As Quentin Blackwood listened, his surprise turned to utter shock.
’Ivy Sherwood’s engagement... it was supposed to be with me!’
’So Mother had arranged a childhood engagement with Ivy’s mother for me, not for Silas.’
’It was Caleb Blackwood. That monster killed my mother just to get the Jade Pendant and everything Winter Mercer left behind.’
’For a pathetic sum of money, Caleb Blackwood took my mother’s life. He’s the murderer.’
’So my mother and Ivy’s mother were good friends. She didn’t kill my mother... It was all a facade created by Caleb Blackwood.’
’So Ivy was never supposed to be my niece-in-law. She was supposed to be my wife!’
"Quentin, are you okay?" Ivy Sherwood asked, looking at his expression. His eyes seemed to be shimmering with unshed tears.
Ivy couldn’t stop herself from reaching out and taking Quentin’s hand.
She knew Quentin might not be able to accept it, but this was the truth.
But Quentin pulled Ivy into his arms, his hand cradling the back of her head tightly. "I’m sorry... I’m so sorry..."
"Your mother’s death really had nothing to do with my mother," Ivy said. "It was all Caleb Blackwood. I told you before, I knew my mother wasn’t that kind of person."
"I’m sorry..."
A sharp pain seized Quentin’s heart. He had almost hurt Ivy over these baseless accusations.
He had believed Ivy’s mother killed his own mother. He had seen Ivy as the daughter of his mother’s murderer.
It all happened so long ago, and Caleb Blackwood had spent years erasing every trace, so Quentin had never been able to find anything.
Then, by planting a few misleading clues, Caleb had successfully led Quentin astray.
Thankfully, he and Ivy had grown closer, and together they had managed to pull this twisted fate back onto its proper course.
He and Ivy were always meant to be together. It was destined from the very beginning.
"I’m fine. But what about you? Are you okay?"
Quentin released Ivy. "All of you, leave us. I have a few things to discuss with Caleb Blackwood. Alone."
That one word—"alone"—made it clear that Caleb Blackwood’s good days were over.
Ivy was worried, but she knew this was a score to be settled between Quentin and Caleb, and the reckoning would come sooner or later.
The most vulnerable part of Quentin’s heart was his mother. Now that he knew the truth about her death and the murderer was standing right before him, he couldn’t possibly do nothing.
Ivy left first. Silas Blackwood and the others were all ushered out, and the rest of the servants scattered.
At that moment, the livestream also came to an abrupt end.
The viewers online were left hanging. "What’s going on? Why did the stream suddenly cut off?"
"What was that last recording about? I didn’t get it. Can someone give us the rundown?"
"Let me. I did a quick search and got the gist of the Blackwood family drama. Quentin Blackwood, the current CEO of DG Group, is from the same family as the Blackwoods of Lustre. Old Master Blackwood was a notorious womanizer when he was young, and Quentin is his illegitimate son."
"Then, it seems Quentin was brought back to the Blackwood family home when he was ten, but Caleb Blackwood treated him and his mother horribly. There was no place for them in that family. Later, Quentin’s mother died, and soon after, he left the Blackwood family and went to Aethelgard to build a life for himself. He was just a kid at the time."
"So that recording basically means Quentin’s mother’s death was actually Caleb’s fault. The original arranged marriage was set up by Quentin’s mom and Ivy’s mom for them. But it seems Caleb was after something of Ivy’s, so he killed Quentin’s mother, stole the engagement token, and pretended the arrangement was for his own son."
"Later, Ivy’s mother also died, and that’s when Caleb produced the token as ’proof’ and fooled everyone. That Caleb Blackwood is a real piece of work, scheming for all these years."
"So doesn’t that make Caleb Blackwood a murderer? The guy’s a complete psycho! How many people has he killed?"
"A guy like that is terrifying. And he’s done so much charity work. Was he trying to atone for his sins or something?"
"Anything less than the death penalty for him would be a crime against humanity. If I were Quentin, I’d want to kill him myself."
"So Caleb’s father is the same kind of scumbag, right? Cheating, sleeping around... guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Quentin and Ivy are the real victims here. Quentin was just a little kid, getting bullied all the time, and he couldn’t choose who his father was. And Ivy? She was almost tricked into marrying into a family like that. Thank god she was determined to break off the engagement."
"We should all boycott the Blackwood Group! Let’s report Caleb Blackwood! A guy like that doesn’t even deserve to live."
While the internet was ablaze with discussion, inside the Blackwood residence, only Quentin and Caleb remained.
Quentin rose to his feet and advanced on Caleb, step by step.
His eyes were like daggers. Just from Quentin’s gaze, Caleb felt a stinging pain all over his body, as if he were being sliced by a thousand cuts.
"What are you going to do? Quentin, I’m your older brother! We have the same blood running through our veins!"
Caleb’s eyes filled with terror. This version of Quentin truly looked like Satan emerging from the depths of hell, coming to claim his soul.
Terrified, Caleb scrambled backward on the floor, his pupils constricting in utter panic.
"Was everything on that recording true?" Quentin’s voice was soft, yet thick with suppressed rage.
"Quentin, don’t be rash! Listen to me! I was just... confused back then! I never really meant to kill your mother! She was just too fragile! I never thought she’d just jump into the ocean!"
"We’re family, for the sake of—AGH!" A blood-curdling scream cut Caleb off mid-sentence.
Quentin’s long leg came down, his gleaming leather shoe grinding forcefully into Caleb’s face. "You think you’re worthy of being my family?"
"The one thing in this life I despise most, the one thing I can never change, is that I share the same blood as you."
"That man ruined my mother’s life. And you... you were the one who ended it."
His eyes were laced with agony as he spat out each word: "You. All. Deserve. To. Die!"
"AGH!"
Even from outside the door, Caleb Blackwood’s agonized screams could be heard.
Ivy didn’t know what Quentin was doing, but she was certain of one thing: he was getting his revenge.
But Ivy also knew that Caleb wouldn’t die. Quentin wouldn’t kill him. Even in a blind rage, he was still rational.
Leaving Caleb alive was perhaps Quentin’s final act of mercy. After all, for some people, being forced to live and watch the world deliver its backlash is a fate more painful than death.
