Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 447: President Sherwood, Your Boyfriend Has Been Waiting for You for a Long Time

  • Next Chapter

These weren’t just idle thoughts for Ivy Sherwood; she was already taking action.

Many things were decided in the meeting, and by the time Ivy was finished, it was long past closing time.

Ivy actually had other plans. Iris was now on the right track, the number of employees was growing, and core team members like Edie were perfectly capable of handling things on their own. Before the year’s end, Ivy had even given some shares to her long-time employees.

The company no longer required her constant attention, so Ivy was thinking of expanding into other businesses and trying her hand at different industries.

Companies like DG had numerous subsidiaries and dabbled in various industries. They had a presence in practically every sector, and they always managed to become the best.

She couldn’t help but admire Quentin Blackwood’s methods and business acumen. She knew she couldn’t be like him yet; in business, he was truly her goal.

She had studied finance and made a good deal of money from her investments. Now, she wanted to open her own investment firm, just to test the waters.

But ideas were one thing; putting them into practice was another, and she had already run into quite a few problems.

After the meeting, Ivy returned to her office and immediately got back to work, showing no intention of leaving for the day.

Just then, the receptionist knocked on Ivy’s office door. "Boss, aren’t you heading home? Your boyfriend has been waiting for a long time."

Ivy looked up. "Boyfriend?"

’What boyfriend?’

"Yes! An incredibly handsome one, at that. Boss, I’m totally shipping you two now!"

They used to think their boss’s beauty was more of the inner, spiritual kind. Now they realized how shallow they’d been. Their boss was stunningly beautiful—prettier than a TV star. She was truly a hidden gem!

Ivy’s heart sank. ’It couldn’t be Quentin Blackwood, could it?’

’That man has been acting crazy lately; I wouldn’t put it past him.’

"Where is he?"

"In the lounge."

"I see." Ivy finally put down her work and headed toward the lounge.

She opened the lounge door, and sure enough, there was Quentin Blackwood.

It wasn’t surprising in the least. Ivy had no idea what he was up to. "Quentin Blackwood, do you have that much free time?"

"Very."

’Coming from the CEO of DG, that statement had zero credibility. If Zane Linton and the other senior executives heard it, they’d probably be crying and begging their president to come back to work!’

"If you’re so free, go get a job. Stop loitering around me!"

Quentin said, "That’s exactly what I was thinking. I wonder, is Iris hiring? A salary of two thousand a month would be fine. I don’t even need benefits. I just want a job where I can see the boss every day."

Ivy: "..."

"No. The only position we’re hiring for is security guard!"

"A security guard works, too." Quentin didn’t seem to mind at all, as long as it meant he could be closer to Ivy.

Ivy: "..."

"You’re insane! I’m calling security to throw you out." ’In the future, I’m going to put a sign on the door: No Quentin Blackwood or dogs allowed!’

"Wait, I’m here for something important," Quentin said, stopping her.

"What ’important thing’?"

Quentin opened the food containers he had brought. "I brought you some food. Try it. I promise it won’t taste bad this time."

"I’ve already eaten," Ivy said.

In reality, she had been busy the entire day. Aside from a few bites of the food Quentin had made that morning, she hadn’t eaten anything. When she got busy, she truly lost all track of time.

"I asked your staff. You haven’t eaten all day. You’re not just looking after yourself anymore. Even if you won’t think of yourself, you have to think of the baby. The baby must be hungry, too."

Quentin opened the container of soup he’d brought. He had spent the entire afternoon simmering it.

He ladled some soup into a spoon and brought it to Ivy’s lips, coaxing her like a child. "Come on, open up. Just one sip, okay? Give it a taste. If you don’t like it, I’ll get you something else."

"I’m not hungry, and the baby doesn’t want to eat, either," Ivy said, forcing a cold tone. "And Quentin, this is my child. It has nothing to do with you. I’m not going to be moved by anything you do, and neither will the baby."

At the same time, a part of her was afraid. She feared that if Quentin kept showing up like this, her resolve would truly soften.

"I’m not doing this to move you," Quentin explained, afraid she would get the wrong idea. "I just figured you hadn’t eaten and wanted you to have a few bites. And my concern for you isn’t just because of the baby."

"It’s fine if you don’t want to see me. I’ll leave right now. But I hope you’ll eat something."

Looking at Ivy, he thought she had lost weight.

Quentin didn’t say anything more and really did leave the lounge.

Seeing Quentin act so wronged and submissive made Ivy wonder if she had been too harsh. ’Was I too mean?’

Her gaze fell on the food. Ivy sat down, picked up the chopsticks, and tried a bite.

It actually tasted much better. ’Did Quentin really make this? Why does it taste so different from what he made this morning?’

Ivy hadn’t felt particularly hungry, but the aroma of the food was enticing, and now she could feel how empty her stomach was.

Ivy ate a little, then returned to her office to continue working.

Quentin had only left the building; he was still waiting outside. By now, almost everyone at the company had gone home, but the light in Ivy’s office was still on.

Quentin called Zane Linton and told him to get in touch with Edie, see if she needed any help, and teach her a thing or two.

Although she was a fast learner and had picked up a lot from being by Ivy’s side, it clearly wasn’t enough for her to be a truly professional assistant.

Zane Linton was more experienced. If he taught her more, she could take more of the burden off Ivy’s shoulders.

Zane Linton: "..."

’So not only is the boss chasing his wife, but I have to play support for him too.’

Meanwhile, Edie was also still in her office. She had run into a difficult problem and, despite doing a lot of research, still wasn’t sure of the best way to handle it.

She had thought about calling Ivy, but remembering how busy her boss was, she decided she would have to find a solution herself.

She never expected that at this very moment, she would get a call from Zane Linton.

"Mr. Linton! Can I ask you a question?" Edie’s pleasantly surprised voice came from the other end of the line. It had been a long time since Zane Linton had heard a voice so full of passion.

’Working for a long time can wear you down. You can even lose your passion for a job you love. But this young woman is still so enthusiastic.’

"Of course," Zane Linton said.

Edie explained her problem. Zane Linton was far more experienced and knowledgeable than her, so her issue was a trivial matter for him.

However, instead of giving her the answer outright, he guided her thinking toward the correct solution.

Meanwhile, Ivy was the last one to leave the office. She shut down her computer, turned off the lights, and stepped outside, only to find that Quentin Blackwood, surprisingly, hadn’t left.

His tall, slender figure was leaning against the wall, as if he had been waiting for her this whole time.
