Chapter 355: Tier Three Bone-Armored Zombie King

  • Next Chapter

Leon approached the thick zombie horde, holding the greatsword in his hand. Sensing his presence, the tightly packed zombies began to turn to him.

Standing behind him, Selene watched with narrowed eyes as she clutched Rune tightly. There were no signs of mutated beasts in the area, meaning the mutated beast army from about a month ago had been scattered or wiped out.

’These zombies aren’t to be underestimated.’

Now, most of them were Tier One, with yellow crystals on their foreheads. Selene could already spot some Tier Two zombies among them.

’We’re really approaching Phase Two.’

She couldn’t help but feel her heart tighten in dark anticipation.

’Patriarch White...don’t you dare die yet. It is my duty.’

Closing her eyes, she shook away the thought, then refocused on Leon. She was a little eager to see him fight.

Perhaps when she witnessed his true combat prowess, she would be even more motivated to evolve to Tier Three and gain the upper hand once again.

Unaware of the silver-haired lady’s thoughts, Leon walked forward calmly. As he did, the shadows on the ground thickened, turning darker until they were entirely black. It was as if someone had painted black stripes on the ground.

Rarr!

The zombies turned around and dashed at him. As they did, the shadows rose from the ground. Several spears pierced into the zombies, leaving them no chance to retaliate. Some zombies were smarter, though. They avoided the spears by jumping over them, aiming to reach Leon and take a bite of his flesh.

Before they could, long shadowy tendrils shot out from their own shadows and pierced them midair.

They were skewered and brought to the ground, further impaled by the field of black spears.

As more zombies rushed at him, piles of bodies formed around the spears, and they kept pushing each other.

Leon paused, amused as he stared at the barricade before him. A light chuckle escaped his lips, and the shadow spears dissolved. Several corpses toppled to the ground, and the blocked zombies immediately climbed on their dead comrades to reach him.

Leon raised his hand and lazily swung his weapon.

Woosh!

The wind alone forced several zombies back, but none of them died. They paused, then came at him again. Before they could reach him, he reached them first.

BANG! CRACK!

The flat of his greatsword slammed into several of them, and they were blasted into bits of flesh and blood. Leon ignored the blood that splattered on his outfit.

Instead, he raised the weapon and swung it again.

BANG! PA!

Another wave was crushed, but they were soon replaced by another. Leon grinned, undeterred by the challenge.

This was the perfect test for his Adaptation Trait. He set a rhythm and began slaughtering his way through the horde. At one point, Selene lost sight of him as he had been swallowed by the horde. However, she could still hear the sound of bodies exploding and see flesh flying into the air.

Leon never got tired. At least not in the literal sense. The zombies weren’t even enough to make him sweat, so how could he grow tired?

He crushed his way through them, killing more and more as he drove them backwards. Corpses continued to pile up beside and behind him, but he didn’t even look at them. Their soul crystals could be extracted later.

’Hmm... I wonder if I should have brought the Titanbreaker Legion? There are some new recruits, and they haven’t fought any major battles. But this is fine. If I had brought them, they might be overwhelmed by these zombies.’

He crushed another Tier Two zombie alongside an unranked zombie, not caring enough to note the difference. They were just too... weak.

’Tch.’

He growled, swinging his weapon at another wave that surged at him. The next wave was handled by shadow spears. Over the next thirty minutes, he killed thousands of zombies, clearing hundreds of meters on the street.

By now, he had created enough disturbance for the Zombie King to notice. He didn’t see it yet, but he could feel its influence as the zombies he was fighting grew more coordinated and some elite zombies began appearing.

To him, they were no different from normal zombies. A hulk zombie? Crushed. A killer zombie? Severed into pieces.

He did everything smoothly, cutting them down as they came. Finally, the disturbance became too much for the Zombie King to ignore.

He paused when the zombie horde stopped attacking him and went after Selene instead.

He shook his head, pitying them. ’Foolish king.’

Soon, the sound of ice shattering resounded behind him and he smiled knowingly.

Boom!

Something landed on the ground before him, and the entire district shook. Leon frowned, looking at the cracked ground, impressed.

"Not bad."

The dust slowly cleared, and the Bone-Armored Zombie King rose. It was even taller than before, with most of its body now covered in bone armor.

Leon stared at it, feeling something stir within him. Was it melancholy? Was it anger? He didn’t know. However, he knew one thing.

’This time, you’re dying.’

The Zombie King stared down at him, then smiled and waved its hand.

"Hu...man. You are still alive."

Leon’s expression darkened. "You can talk?"

The Bone-Armored Zombie King chuckled, the sound strange and grating to the ears. "What..? You don’t want communication."

Leon hissed. "I don’t need that."

Why would he, when he could just kill it and extract its memories? If it knew anything useful, he’d know.

The Bone-Armored Zombie King laughed again, then glared at him. "Become a zombie and join our cause. Continue as a human and be eternally doomed."

Leon scowled, then raised his sword. "You surely spout a lot of sophisticated bullshit!"

Setting aside his desire to know how it could speak and think, he attacked. He reached the Bone-Armored Zombie King in an instant, swinging the greatsword straight at its head.

"Foolish human."

A bone sword grew from the zombie’s arm, blocking the giant sword.

BANG! CRACK!

The next moment, the Zombie King’s expression changed.
