Chapter 423: Chapter 311: The Demon God’s Shock

In the past, He hadn’t dared to ask for too much; He was content simply to receive this immense power from Isaac. Besides, though Isaac had never stated it outright, Mephisto could still tell.

Unlike most Wizards who establish a Magic Capital, Isaac, in the beginning, was truly just experimenting with Virtual Divinity—a miraculous and terrifying power that could allow a mortal to leap into godhood.

That was why he made no demands of Mephisto and the Underground Palace City he governed. Of course, unlike those other Wizards, he also didn’t have vast material resources to support them.

But that was of no consequence. After all, what Isaac had given them was power!

The power to obtain everything!

Yet, all of this began to change one day—

—after their failed assault on the Wolf Howl Abyss...

Mephisto didn’t know if they had done something wrong or what had changed. All he knew was that from that day on, the Divine Master began having them collect all sorts of strange Magic Materials for him, just like the humans from other Magic Capitals.

This brought Mephisto both joy and a strange sense of loss.

The joy was natural; the Divine Master needed them. Not only could they finally repay their Divine Master’s grace, but he would also provide them with plentiful resources. He would even lend a hand in building up their army.

For example, the Divine Arts their Followers currently used were of the Divine Master’s Creation.

The sense of loss, however, was because this meant they were no longer special in the Divine Master’s heart. With his power, it would be trivially easy to create another one of them!

So now, even though the Divine Master would intervene to help them through difficulties, Mephisto was actually more hesitant to seek Isaac out, terrified of angering his Divine Master in some way.

Of course, Isaac was unaware of Mephisto’s petty concerns, nor did he have any interest in them. In his eyes, the experiment remained his top priority.

Of course, had Mephisto actually spoken up, Isaac would have solved this problem for Him. Creating a Chosen Leader would have been no issue; after all, this was a world of Magic, and within certain limits, Magic was omnipotent!

A problem like the one Mephisto worried about would be easy to solve. One would only need to create a Deity with political attributes. Paired with the Followers that Deity would develop, you’d have a complete package, from the leader down to the entire administrative team!

This wouldn’t work in the long run, of course. After all, both Deities and their Followers would eventually be eroded by Divinity. For a nation, a ruling body that has completely lost all emotion is unreliable.

But as a temporary stopgap, at least, it would be fine.

Alas, Mephisto didn’t speak up, and so Isaac never asked. After all, Mephisto was managing things quite well at the moment, with no obvious flaws, so Isaac, who paid little attention to the operations of the Underground Palace City, naturally had no way of knowing.

But I digress. After leaving his underground laboratory, Isaac headed straight for the Giant Troll Valley. Elf Bow Trist was still in the process of clearing it out.

After watching from behind Trist for a while, Isaac, who had only meant to observe Its fighting style, suddenly frowned. He snapped his head up and looked toward the sky.

The Demon God, who was secretly observing and trying to analyze Trist’s condition, was startled. ’Hmm?!’ He hadn’t expected that Isaac could sense something even when the gaze wasn’t directed at him. ’That Perception Power... isn’t that just absurd?’

Startled, He quickly withdrew his gaze.

"Hmm? Was I just imagining things?" Isaac’s brow was tightly knit.

Although he couldn’t find anything, Isaac didn’t believe his feeling was wrong. After years of dealing with these Outer Gods, and with his own power constantly growing, his sixth sense had become extremely sensitive to such High-Position Existences.

But Isaac truly couldn’t find any trace, because the entire Giant Troll Underground Palace had been created by the Demon God. In other words, the Demon God’s traces were everywhere here.

This was the source of the Demon God’s confidence in secretly observing Trist all this time.

"Come back." Still frowning and finding no clues after a quick scan, Isaac decided against looking any further. With a wave of his hand, the fighting Trist instantly became a streak of green light, landing in his hand and transforming into an emerald brooch.

He casually pinned the brooch to his chest and put away the fully charged Virtual Divinity. Jagged teeth of the Void materialized behind Isaac and swallowed him whole.

Long after Isaac left, the Demon God’s gaze descended once more. He stared at the slowly regenerating Giant Troll Valley, his eyes dark and profound.

After days of Observation, He had finally confirmed one thing—Trist was not a God!

Although It possessed Divinity, Divine Power, Divinity, and even Divine Authority, It was still not a God!

At least, not the kind of being that Deities would widely recognize as one of their own!

The reason was simple. It had no emotions and lacked sufficient Human Nature. No, to be precise, Trist had no component of "Human Nature" whatsoever!

It sounds absurd, but Deities also possess "Human Nature." To be precise, they possess desire!

For millennia, all Deities have fought against the "Divinity" within their Divinity, because they do not want to lose their "selves." This is why most Deities, whether they are True Gods or Outer Gods, have very simple and extreme emotions.

They need this simple yet intense emotional foundation to "color" the "Divinity" that emanates from their Divinity.

But in Trist, all the Demon God saw was pure Divinity!

And it was a Divinity that was absolutely subservient to a human!

Normally, even if a Deity were to be dominated by its Divinity, It would still act strictly within the bounds of Its divine domain, not act like a hired hand for a human Wizard, as Trist was doing now!

This made the Demon God increasingly certain of the terrifying suspicion he held!

That Mad Witch... was engaged in God Creation!

A Deity that was completely under his control, no less!

The very delusion that the Mad Witches of old had pursued!

’So, should I intervene?’

Unlike during a transaction ritual, an Outer God’s gaze is normally unobstructed. In other words, while this Demon God didn’t know which specific Mad Witch Isaac was, he basically knew his identity—Isaac Solomon!

’This is good news. It means I’ve never made a deal with him, so it’s highly unlikely we’ll have to face each other in the future.’

’But...’

’Can I really be so sure?’

The Demon God’s gaze was grim. Times had changed. Wizards no longer needed a reason to attack them, the Outer Gods. After all, what better material was there for a Great Creation than a Deity?

’What talented Wizard doesn’t dream of achieving greatness?’

...

Meanwhile, Isaac used his Phase Space ability to appear directly over a ravaged Wilderness. The ground below was littered with severed limbs and broken bodies, but there were no signs of humans—most of the remains belonged to monsters.

Isaac scanned his surroundings and discovered faint, thread-like black lines in the Space above the Wilderness. They were the culprits behind all these monster carcasses.
