Chapter 365: Chapter 268: The Road Ahead

The battle ended even faster than Isaac had anticipated. The Demon Eyes, infused with the Power of Authority from an ancient Evil God, were far more powerful than he had imagined. Especially when they worked in tandem—one to strip away defenses and the other to inflict damage—their efficiency was astonishingly high!

In just a few moments, the aberration was completely dismembered by Isaac, its remains reduced to chunks of flesh floating silently in the air...

Caesar: "...It’s... over just like that?"

After the battle, Caesar flew back with Lorna. He looked at the chaotic battlefield, his expression complex. Although Gallard was dead, Caesar felt none of the elation that should have come from achieving his long-awaited revenge...

Throughout the entire process of his revenge, he had barely contributed. The killing blow he had prepared for Gallard was left unused; the battle was over before he even had a chance to unleash it...

This left Caesar, who had prepared for years to exact his revenge, with the frustrating feeling of having thrown a full-force punch only to hit a pillow of cotton...

On the other hand, even though he had personally slain his enemy, Isaac felt much the same. He had prepared for this battle for a very long time, even fleecing Outer Gods on several occasions. But in the end...

In the end, aside from some minor trouble with the tracking, he had barely used any of his other preparations. The devastating Demon Eyes that had dominated the fight were an asset he had acquired long before.

Looking at the chunks of flesh floating in the air and feeling a faint emptiness inside, Isaac furrowed his brow. ’While this battle went exceptionally smoothly, it also exposed several of my own issues.’

’For example, I have many techniques, and they’re all very powerful, but few are truly applicable in the heat of battle. Against weaker foes, I can use the Infinite Magic Power from my Dimension World to power the Magic Cannons and achieve absolute Firepower suppression. For average enemies, I can use Authority Magic. When I encounter someone too strong, I have the two Demon Eyes of Authority, which have terrifying suppressive power.’

’Of course, this isn’t to say that the powers I acquired from the Outer Gods and from Legends are useless. Those abilities and all that Knowledge have become my foundation, and they could prove useful at any time in my future research.’

’It’s just...’

’The logic holds, but doesn’t this render the abilities I risked my life to obtain from the Outer Gods meaningless?’

In reality, this was a problem many Mad Witches faced after reaching a certain stage of development. As their own power grew, the power or Knowledge they had traded for from the Outer Gods would gradually fail to keep pace. It became a classic case of something too valuable to discard, yet not useful enough to keep.

However, a normal Mad Witch would typically only run into this problem at Tier Four. After all, for a Tier Four Wizard, reaching Demigod Tier Five—a level comparable to a Deity—was already within reach. With a Floating City, that gap was even smaller.

Under such circumstances, it was understandable that the minor powers obtained from Outer God trades would lag behind. For a Tier Three Wizard like Isaac to face this, however, was not normal. But given that his methods of trading with Outer Gods were somewhat different, it wasn’t entirely surprising that he had reached this stage prematurely.

But in one respect, Isaac was just like other Mad Witches: they were never satisfied with the status quo!

After experiencing such meteoric progress in the early stages, most Mad Witches simply couldn’t go back to slowly researching and accumulating power like normal Wizards. That’s just how gamblers are.

Thus, apart from a rare few who continued to make steady, conventional trades, most Mad Witches would start taking bigger risks—like entering the Mysterious Void to scavenge the power of Outer Gods, just as Isaac did.

Isaac wanted to up the ante as well, but he faced a problem. For a normal Mad Witch, "taking a bigger step" meant seizing the power of Outer Gods. But Isaac was already doing that. ’How can I raise the stakes even further?’

So, Isaac needed to think carefully about his next move...

He glanced around the battlefield. With a wave of his hand, a black fog swept in and collected all the remains of the aberration into his Dimension World. Although the Outer God Power within had been mangled by the Authority of Illusion and Reality and the Authority of Distortion, enough traces remained to be of significant research value.

Finally, Isaac’s gaze fell upon the corpse floating on the surface of the Star Sea. A look of astonishment appeared on his face. ’A Divine Corpse...’

’And the corpse of a Star God, no less!’

’This thing...’

’How did it get here?’

Isaac was astonished. Encountering the corpse of a Star God would have been fairly normal in any other part of the Endless Sea. After all, the Endless Sea was the product of a Great Wizard, a recently created grand Miracle, so finding a Divine Corpse or a Divinity wasn’t out of the ordinary.

But this was the Star Sea!

It was a product formed from the fused remains of countless fallen Star Gods. Here, one might find a Star God’s Divinity, but never a Star God’s corpse, because the Sea’s unique magnetic field would simply dissolve it.

For instance, the Divine Corpse currently soaking in the Star Sea was being affected by that very magnetic field. If not for the layer of special Magic protecting its surface, it likely would have dissolved already.

However...

’Why do I get the feeling... that this thing wouldn’t dissolve even if that protection was removed?’ Isaac mused, stroking his chin as he looked at the Star God’s corpse soaking in the sea. It was just a guess, but he felt he was probably right.

’Otherwise, there’s no explaining why those two left it here.’

’This blasted Star Sea is no place to be conducting experiments in peace, especially not experiments involving the Divine Corpse of a Star God. There are far too many variables.’

’Unless... they simply had no way to move it.’

"What should we do with this thing?"

Just then, Caesar flew to Isaac’s side with Lorna. He looked down at the Divine Corpse and asked with a grave expression.

Although he didn’t understand Magic, as a Divine Favored, he had some inkling of what was happening with the Divine Corpse. This thing...

It was crossing the boundary between life and death!

To put it simply, the Star God was resurrecting!

The resurrection of a dead Deity. It was the most dangerous and taboo experiment in all of Witchcraft: God Creation!

A resurrected Deity would feel no gratitude toward its resurrector. On the contrary, It would do everything in Its power to kill them!

Being brought back from the dead—especially for a being on the level of a Deity—is a severe violation of the World Law. Deities are, in a sense, Incarnations of the World Law itself. Unless a resurrected Deity wished to degenerate into an Outer God, It would be bound to attack the Caster.

That was why Caesar was worried Isaac might take an interest in resurrecting the Star God...

That would be disastrous!

Fortunately, while Isaac was interested in the concept of God Creation, he had no interest in an experiment as crude as this one.

Yes, crude!

In Isaac’s eyes, Gallard and his partner’s God Creation experiment was laughably crude. He could see far more than Caesar could.

For instance, they had no intention of performing the final step of the resurrection themselves. Instead, they planned to offload it onto someone else. That way, when the resurrected Star God came looking for someone to kill, it wouldn’t be them.

They would effectively have the Deity in their debt.

Furthermore, there were likely other minor contingencies in place to protect their own interests.

Still, Isaac had no interest. In the end, this was merely resurrecting a Deity, not truly *creating* one. More importantly, it included no method for controlling said Deity.

That point alone was enough to make him lose all interest!
