Wizard: My Skills Can Infinitely Break Through
Chapter 437 - 331: Superpower Management Bureau, Generous Benefits
Zhou Zhen didn’t answer immediately. He turned and gave Wei Song a deep look.
His gaze was complex—part admiration, part sentiment, and with a trace... of imperceptible wariness.
"Report to the Management Bureau tomorrow. Someone there will give you a full briefing."
He retracted his gaze and looked forward again.
"For tonight, just rest. We’ve already arranged a place for you."
The car stopped in front of a high-rise apartment building that was over twenty stories tall.
The building had a modern glass-curtain-wall design that gave off a faint glow in the night.
A uniformed doorman stood guard at the entrance. Seeing the car stop, he immediately stepped forward to open the door.
"Group Leader Zhou."
The doorman saluted crisply.
Zhou Zhen nodded and pointed at Wei Song.
"This is Wei Song, a new Awakener. He’ll be in 702, on the seventh floor. Take him up. The key is at the front desk."
"Yes."
The doorman turned and gestured for Wei Song to proceed.
Wei Song pushed open the car door. The night wind rushed in, carrying the city’s signature mix of car exhaust and cooking aromas.
He stood beside the car and glanced back at Zhou Zhen, who was still seated inside. Zhou Zhen nodded at him.
"Report to the Management Bureau headquarters at nine tomorrow morning. Don’t be late."
"The front desk will give you the address. Get a good night’s rest."
With that, the SUV’s engine gave a low rumble. It turned around and quickly drove into the night, disappearing at the next intersection.
Wei Song retracted his gaze and walked into the apartment building’s lobby.
The lobby was spacious, its floor paved with marble tiles polished to a mirror-like sheen. A massive Crystal chandelier hung overhead, casting a soft halo of light.
A pretty young woman in a business suit was sitting at the front desk.
When she saw the doorman escorting Wei Song in, she immediately stood up, her face breaking into a practiced, professional smile.
"Hello, Mr. Wei."
She took a set of keys and a key card from a drawer and offered them to him with both hands.
"These are the keys and key card for 702. The room has been cleaned and fully stocked with toiletries and other essentials."
"If you need anything at all, just use the call button in the room. Someone is on duty twenty-four hours a day."
Wei Song took the keys and key card.
The keys were cool to the touch. The key card was printed with the apartment building’s logo and the room number.
"Thank you." He turned and walked toward the elevators.
The elevator was a transparent, scenic one, revealing the city’s nightscape as it ascended.
A sea of lights, a forest of skyscrapers, and endless streams of traffic.
This world was far more prosperous than his hometown, Xiongshi County, as he remembered it.
DING. The elevator stopped on the seventh floor.
The doors slid open silently. The hallway was laid with a thick carpet that completely absorbed the sound of his footsteps.
Both sides of the hall were lined with closed doors, each adorned with a brass number plate.
Wei Song walked up to the door of 702, inserted the key, and turned it.
CLICK.
The lock clicked open. He pushed the door and went inside.
A motion-sensor light in the entryway turned on automatically, casting down a warm yellow glow.
Although it was a two-bedroom apartment, it was very spacious.
The living room connected to an open-plan kitchen, and a small balcony lay beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows.
All the furniture was new—a sofa, coffee table, TV console, and a dining set. The style was minimalist, but the quality was excellent.
A few decorative paintings hung on the walls, a potted plant stood in one corner, and the faint scent of cleaner lingered in the air.
Wei Song closed the door, walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and pulled open the curtains.
Outside the window was the nightscape of Jiangzhou City.
In the distance, the city skyline glittered in the darkness, the lights sharply etching the silhouettes of the skyscrapers.
Down below, traffic flowed in endless streams, neon signs shifted through a kaleidoscope of colors, and pedestrians hurried along the sidewalks.
It was an unfamiliar, bustling world.
Wei Song stood in silence, his gaze traveling past the city lights and toward the more distant, unseen darkness beyond.
He thought of the dim little house in Xiongshi County, and the person who lived inside it.
"Everything... will be alright."
He muttered to himself, not knowing if he was speaking to the body’s original owner or to his current self.
Outside, the night was deep.
The city lights burned all through the night.
