Chapter 182: Chapter 120: Ancient Secret Shadow: Dynasty Era Treasure!
A quarter of an hour later, Chen Shang sensed that their pursuer had faded away. He let go of Alicia’s arm, leaned against the stone wall, and gasped heavily for air.
His nose was still bleeding, so he rolled up his sleeves and wiped it.
In the rock layer where they were currently situated, the Earth Element was concentrated to the extreme.
Shrinking Earth consumed not only Magic Power but also Spiritual Power. Moreover, every time Space was folded, the Spiritual Force Field had to withstand a violent tremor.
Alicia’s face was pale, but her breathing had steadied. She treated Chen Shang’s injuries a little.
"He’s not a Wizard," she said. "Although he has traces of Wizard Power on him, he absolutely isn’t one. A real Wizard wouldn’t stoop so low as to snatch a sword. It’s beneath them.
"Furthermore, if he were a real Wizard, it would be impossible for us to escape. For a First Level Wizard to catch two Second Level Apprentices, there’s no need to chase. A single thought would be enough."
Chen Shang recovered his condition while his brain raced.
Alicia was absolutely right. Evelyn’s Divine Sword was worth a million Wizard Coins at most, which was practically nothing to a genuine First Level Wizard.
A First Level Wizard was qualified to own a small Plane. Even from a small Plane with very poor returns, they could save enough money for a Divine Sword in just a few decades. And that was just pure Plane revenue.
If a First Level Wizard’s connections, abilities, and knowledge were taken into account, obtaining a Divine Artifact would be a breeze. There was absolutely no need for them to risk violating the Pan-Wizard Alliance’s rules to attack Apprentices.
He thought about that centipede. The experimental traces on it were almost identical, except this one was much stronger. Therefore, it was almost certain that this was the work of the same person.
"He isn’t a member of the Pan-Wizard Alliance," Chen Shang said. "I’ve seen a similar centipede in another Plane."
He shared this information and even took out the residual carapace of the centipede from that time.
"But his presence here proves that he has the ability to enter this Plane without going through the Pan-Wizard Alliance’s Teleportation Gate."
Alicia looked at the residual centipede carapace and fell silent for a moment. She wanted to say "Impossible," but swallowed the words before they could leave her lips.
The education and era dividends received by modern Wizards were actually incredibly massive and precise.
For example, the Teleportation Gates, High Towers, Celestial Net, Plane trade systems, various laboratories, and the Plane Will’s protection... none of these fell from the sky. Instead, they were built by generation after generation of Wizards with their flesh and wisdom, piled up from countless failures.
A cross-Plane trade system alone involved sub-projects of two Concept Level Weapons: the Void Gate and the Wizard Celestial Net (Soul Celestial Net). What astonishing wealth and power this required! It was unimaginable in other civilizations.
Modern Apprentices could simply pick up a rune pen to draw, swipe a card to walk into a Teleportation Gate to cross Planes, and open a Crystal Plate to check information. These things, which Ancient Wizards had to risk their lives for, were nothing more than everyday occurrences for them.
The dividends of civilization were not to be taken for granted, but unless it was pointed out to them, it was difficult for people to realize this.
Take this Divine Sword, for example. Within the Wizard trade system, its value could be measured in Wizard Coins. Saving up to buy a Divine Artifact seemed like a matter of course.
However, in many Planes and among many native races... they simply couldn’t forge weapons of this caliber.
Another example was the concept of leverage multiplication. After undergoing comprehensive education, Apprentices all strove to achieve higher leverage multipliers. They competed or communicated with each other in assessment after assessment, aiming to exert more Power using just a single point of Magic Power.
But for many native races, merely mobilizing their own Power was incredibly difficult, and they didn’t even know how to begin exploring a Cultivation System.
This was also one of the reasons why many Wizard Apprentices could launch devastating asymmetrical strikes against native populations.
And as taught in history class, in the ancient era before the Void Gate was established, Wizards had to board Starships for Plane expeditions.
Starships were slow, their routes were long, and they had to be positioned within the Void. A single expedition could easily take years, or even centuries.
Even earlier, in an era without Starships, only Great Wizards were qualified to cross the Void. Anyone else wouldn’t be able to withstand the Energy erosion of the Void.
Furthermore, even after the establishment of the Void Gate, during the era when the protection of the High Towers and the Wizard’s Will hadn’t yet extended to every Apprentice, only Official Wizards were qualified to conduct cross-Plane operations. Even then, they needed thick layers of protective measures to resist the invasion of the Plane Will.
It was nothing like how easy it was now.
"So the fact that he could bypass the Teleportation Gate indicates that he has some kind of Ancient Secret Treasure in his hands. But it’s also because his inheritance is incomplete that his leverage multiplier is extremely poor, which gave us the chance to escape," Alicia concluded.
Chen Shang nodded. Within the territory of the Pan-Wizard Alliance, traces left by Wizards were almost everywhere. In many black markets, unpopulated areas, or the crevices of forgotten Planes, there were still people practicing Cultivation in ancient ways.
Alicia stood up, patted the dust off her robes, and took out a Crystal Plate from her waist. She sent a message to the Tower Guardian of the Broken Rock Plane.
The format of the sent message was standard: identity verification, coordinates, situation description, and request for backup.
It was perfectly normal to call for backup when outmatched.
However, the moment she pressed the send button, the signal icon on the Crystal Plate flashed once and suddenly went out. She had a bad feeling and tried again, but the result was the same.
She handed the Crystal Plate to Chen Shang. "The message won’t send."
"Let me try." Chen Shang took the Crystal Plate, activated his Eye of Truth to observe the situation, and tried again.
The signal transmission Rune of the Crystal Plate was still operating, but the emitted Energy wave encountered an invisible barrier within the rock layer.
It was an Energy layer that isolated this area from the outside world.
