And then—

A chain of explosions spiraled up the stormy vortex. The rumbling boomed across the entire sea, carrying far and wide over the thunder and heavy rain, causing the surrounding ships that were giving it a wide berth to tremble.

[You have used Corpse Explosion Skill (Death God) Magic to damage a Deep Sea Aberration, triggering Death Trait - Plague. Instant Death progress: 112/2000. Evaluation: This one is pretty strong. It can take a few hits. Special Reward: Survival Points +30, Resilience Level +1.]

[...Deep Sea Aberration, triggering Death Trait - Senescence. Instant Death progress: 2000/2000... Reward: Survival Points +10.]

[Deep Sea Aberration has triggered Death Trait - Instant Death. It is now dead. Evaluation: Its death was valuable. It contaminated fifteen other aberrations—one taking fifteen with it, not bad, not bad at all... Special Reward: Survival Points +50, Resilience Level +1, Spiritual Level +1.]

The Corpse Explosion Skill, steadily increasing in power, stretched all the way to the dark clouds in the sky. As the last few aberrations died from the blasts, the terrifying explosions tore several gaps in the cloud cover high above.

In an instant, the sea fell silent!

Through the holes in the clouds, the crimson moonlight shone down, dispelling the gloom over the water.

The thunder and lightning ceased. Only at the edges of the clouds did lightning occasionally flash, vying with the crimson glow to illuminate the sky.

The rain lessened significantly, but the massive vortex had been utterly shattered by the chain of terrifying explosions. The sky-high column of water collapsed, crashing down onto the sea’s surface with a thunderous ROAR that kicked up a series of monstrous waves.

Wei’en watched all this calmly, even impassively. He gave a new command to his four Origin servitors—Soul-Devouring.

"Adagua!"

The ghosts were equally unconcerned by the towering waves. Under the effect of the Soul-Devouring Magic, their heads swelled to dozens of times their normal size. They charged headfirst into the waves, devouring the flesh and blood fragments within, not even sparing the plague-tainted gore raining down from the sky.

[You have used Soul-Devouring Magic to devour a portion of the Blue Marlin’s Origin Power. Your Origin has been enhanced. Evaluation: This is less than a pittance... Special Reward: Origin +0.0001.]

[...devouring a portion of the Deep Sea Aberration’s Origin Power. Your Origin has been enhanced. Evaluation: Every little bit adds up. You’ve grown stronger again, you weakling, heh heh heh... Special Reward: Origin +0.001.]

From just two spells, three astounding streams of power surged within Wei’en’s body. One continuously washed over his flesh, bones, and organs, strengthening his physique. Another reinforced his Spirit. The last one delved deep into his Origin, enhancing his Origin Power at a turtle’s pace.

He could feel the enhancement of his Origin and Spiritual Power feeding back into his soul. It forged a tighter connection with his body, allowing for more subtle control over its every part—he could even control the opening and closing of every single pore.

Not only that, but as his Spirit spread out, he could clearly perceive everything within a fifty-kilometer radius: the trajectory of every rolling wave, the leap of every deep-sea creature. He could even sense a trace of their emotions.

’Emotions?’

’Is this how clowns like him can sense my thoughts?’

As the realization dawned on him, Wei’en glanced at his basic attributes on the panel.

Resilience Level: 24124

Spiritual Level: 11334

Origin: 1123 (1124) (1 point of Origin sealed)

Survival Points: 121800

The total attribute increase wasn’t that much, only around two thousand points, most of which came from killing the deep-sea creatures in that massive vortex.

His Origin Power had increased by nearly one hundred. After calculating, it meant that from the encounter with the Grave Digger and the terrifying projection of the Master of True Slaughter, he had only gained about three thousand points in attributes.

But he had paid an enormous price for it!

’Clelia... I swear I will bring you back from that world!’

With this thought, Wei’en turned and led Tina toward the black carriage.

Behind him, three massive Water Elemental Spirits cleaved through the surging waves, calming them so they wouldn’t affect the patch of sea where Wei’en and the others stood.

’Well now...’

Arnold stared at Wei’en with his scarlet pupils for a long time. From his decision to forcibly turn the Grave Digger into an Undead Creature, to the old timer from the Undead World speaking up, and finally to the astonishingly powerful Corpse Explosion and Soul-Devouring...

It all made Wei’en feel like a stranger. ’Is this still that same young Wizard, the one with an immature mind who held such beautiful illusions about everything?’

’His condition is dangerous... is he losing control?’

’The risk of him losing control has gone up. *Sigh*.’

’I thought that after being away from the Caster City State for so long, his psychological wounds would have healed a bit. I never expected him to run into McCarthy’s projection today...’

’I’m afraid the Wei’en of the future will cause a lot of slaughter...’

’Whatever. Whether those bastards live or die, what’s it to me?’

’I’m just a plain, unremarkable, and utterly harmless taboo item.’

With these thoughts, Arnold flashed an exaggerated, wide-mouthed grin and followed after him. "Hee hee ha ha... That old geezer from the Undead World is pretty scary. And you, you’ve become even scarier. How does it feel?"

Wei’en glanced at him but said nothing, walking toward the carriage over the path made by the Water Elemental Spirits.

Seeing this, the smile on Arnold’s face froze for a moment. Then, he transformed into a shadow and followed beside him, chattering incessantly.

"Why aren’t you talking? Tell me, how does it feel? And were you scared when you faced McCarthy?"

"Hey, hey, hey! I was the one who reminded Little White Fur to come rescue you, and I beat that ugly guy to within an inch of his life just now, you..."

Seeing Wei’en walk on without stopping, Arnold’s wide, scarlet mouth was agape, his massive red nose scrunched up.
