Chapter 921 Source of the mist (2)
Lin Fan escorted them to the entrance of the Valley of Mist.
This was where he had bumped into the former leader of the Mist Guards in the beginning, the place where he had entered the Valley of Mist.
Once they were out of the Valley of Mist, Lin Fan also released his Mist Shaping Technique.
He didn’t completely release it so that he wasn’t protected against the mist, but he did stop using his Mist Shaping Technique to protect the members of the Mist Guards.
However, that wasn’t a problem since they were all trained in the Mist Shaping Technique as well. The moment that he released his Mist Shaping Technique, they just released their own Mist Shaping Technique and created spaces around themselves.
It seemed like there wasn’t a problem with their cultivation at all.
It really was as if time had frozen for them during the years that they had wandered around in the mist.
Lin Fan knew this better than anyone since he could tell that even their bodies didn’t seem to age during this time. It was as if they had been frozen by something as they wandered around in the mist.
He really had no idea just what it was that had done this to them, but he knew that if mortals were to learn of this…
It would be hard to predict what kind of uproar would be created.
In a sense, what these members of the Mist Guards had experienced during this time was immortality. A kind of immortality that they didn’t even get with their current level of cultivation.
It was unknown how long this form of immortality would have lasted, but if it kept them from aging, then it would effectively keep them alive forever.
For mortals that had a short and limited lifespan, this kind of immortality would be very enticing. Especially those that had a high position in the mortal world, they would use their wealth and power to find a way to negate the negatives of this method.
Such as the wandering around in a daze in the mist.
So it was better that this wasn’t known by anyone.
“Will you be alright in getting back on your own?” Lin Fan asked the former leader of the Mist Guards.
Smiles appeared on the faces of the Mist Guards before the former leader of the Mist Guards said, “Aren’t you looking down on us too much? Even if we were caught by the mist in the Valley of Mist, that doesn’t mean that we’re that weak. We’ve been wandering in the Weeping Mist Forest since we were young, so we’ll be fine.”
The Mist Guards all nodded to show their agreement.
But then they all revealed concerned looks before the former leader of the Mist Guards said, “Sir envoy, are you sure that you’ll be alright on your own?”
Lin Fan said with a simple nod, “I’ll be fine. I was able to save all of you, so why wouldn’t I be fine? Trust me, I have something I have to do here, so I can’t go back yet.”
The Mist Guards seemed to hesitate a bit, but they eventually nodded in agreement and turned to leave.
Though as they left, they kept looking back from time to time as if they were still concerned.
Lin Fan didn’t say anything as he stood there watching them leave.
It was only when they were gone that he suddenly turned around and looked at the Valley of Mist in front of him.
Without any words, he took a few steps forward and then spoke in a loud voice.
“How about you come out now?”
There was a silence that followed after he said this before there was the sound of rustling that came from around him.
All of a sudden, there were several things that flew at him from different directions.
Lin Fan didn’t panic when he saw this and just simply raised his hand to create a water barrier. The things that came flying at him slammed into the Clear Water barrier, but they didn’t seem to cause any ripples at all as they harmlessly fell down.
It was as if they had been bounced back by the barrier and all of their force had been negated.
After dropping to the ground, Lin Fan saw the appearance of these objects that came flying at him.
These were scales.
There wasn’t anything special about these scales, but they seemed to be sharp and hard from what he could see.
When Lin Fan had said this, he hadn’t actually been expecting anything.
He had only said this because he thought that this was usually the time when the bad guy would appear. So he had said this as a way of trying to bait them out.
It was surprising that they actually came out.
After blocking all of those scales that came flying at him, Lin Fan didn’t do anything as he stood there. He still had the Clear Water barrier up as he looked around him, as if he was trying to find something.
During this time, there weren’t any new scales that flew out at him.
It was only when he released the Clear Water barrier that there were more scales that suddenly appeared.
It was just that these scales had no effect at all since Lin Fan summoned the Clear Water barrier once more with a single flick of his hand.
The scales just bounced right off the Clear Water barrier.
But this time, Lin Fan didn’t remain still.
When the scales flew out, he had been watching carefully for the direction that the scales came in. So when the scales came out of the mist, he was able to see exactly where they came from.
Lin Fan shot out towards the direction that the scales came from while also using the Mist Shaping Technique to clear out the mist that was around him.
However, when he used the Mist Shaping Technique on the mist around him, he found that it was harder to move this mist compared to the other mist. Explore more stories at empire
Even when he was wandering around the Valley of Mist before, the mist that he had to deal with wasn’t as dense as the mist that was here now.
With how dense this mist currently was, it was almost as if he was dealing with the source of the mist. It was as if what was creating this mist was here and blocking him from scattering it.
It was just that Lin Fan’s control of the Mist Shaping Technique was far greater than the power of the mist. So even if it was dense, he was still able to force it to clear around him.
After heading in the direction of the scales for a bit, he finally saw the identity of the one that was creating the mist.
It was a strange looking spirit beast that Lin Fan didn’t seem to recognize as any kind of spirit beast that he had heard of before. But then he thought of something from his past life that this spirit beast actually resembled.
A tapir.
That was what this spirit beast resembled, but there was something that was off about it.
It was the scales that covered its body that a normal tapir wouldn’t have had.
These were the same scales that had just come at him through the mist, so there was no mistaking that this was the thing that had attacked him. But even without that, Lin Fan could sense that the mist was coming from this tapir spirit beast, which meant that it was the source of this mist.
Now the only question was…what was this thing?
The tapir seemed surprised to find that the mist around it had disappeared, but it didn’t seem to give up yet as it shot out the scales once more.
When it did this, the scales seemed like they were being torn from the tapir’s body before flying out at Lin Fan like they had been shot. It was unknown what generated this force, but it did fly quite fast.
Unfortunately, Lin Fan was faster.
Since he had sight of the tapir, it was easy for him to trap it.
So with a single wave of his hand, there was a Clear Water barrier that appeared around the tapir. This Clear Water barrier appeared right before the tapir shot out its scales, so all of those scales slammed into the Clear Water barrier that appeared.
The Clear Water barrier easily blocked the scales that crashed into it and sent them down all around the tapir.
It didn’t even create a ripple in the Clear Water barrier which went to show the difference in power between the two sides. But at the same time, there was something else that made the tapir worried.
It was the fact that the Clear Water barrier also seemed to block the mist that was coming from the tapir.
The moment that the Clear Water barrier appeared, it was as if the mist had been trapped inside of it.
Lin Fan was shocked by this as well, but then he realized that it was because the Clear Water barrier was a higher level of water elemental energy than the mist. That was why it was able to stop the mist from escaping.
Like this, the tapir was completely trapped.
After a moment of silence, the tapir suddenly fell to the ground.
It didn’t just drop to the ground, but also turned around on the ground and revealed its stomach.
It was in a pose of submission.
