Chapter 1601: Source of research

As Xiao Mu closed its eyes and focused on the panel in front of it, the expression on its face soon changed.

It seemed like Xiao Mu was slowly relaxing as it was working on cracking the code of the panel in front of it.

After a while, there was a sound that came from then panel itself before a door opened in the wall in front of them.

This wasn’t something that was unfamiliar to them since they had already seen something like this before. The last elevator that they took had worked in the same way as this one.

Once they were inside of the elevator, everything in here was the same as the previous elevator that they had taken. There was nothing special that had been added to this elevator, not that there was anything that needed to be added.

This was just a simple elevator that would take them to the third floor of this building.

Though it seemed like there was something that had changed.

The moment that Xiao Mu reached out towards the panel that controlled the elevator, there was a similar frown that appeared on its face.

However, it didn’t seem like it was as bad as before. It seemed like this time Xiao Mu wasn’t struggling as much as it was before with trying to break through this panel.

Though the fact that it had to deal with this meant that there were indeed traps that had been placed on this panel as well.

It seemed like the one that had built the way to the third floor hadn’t spared any expenses when it came to the defenses of the third floor. It seemed like there was something that they wanted to protect even at the cost of destroying everything.

"So that should mean that there’s something important on the third floor, right?"

That was the logical way to think about it, but it isn’t as if this was certain.

Eventually, Xiao Mu was able to get the elevator moving.

Though from the look on Xiao Mu’s face, it really seemed like it was much more effort than it should have been. It really seemed like Xiao Mu had just fought several rounds just to get this elevator to work.

It seemed like it had been hard on Xiao Mu, but there was nothing that could be done since Xiao Mu was the only one that could interact with technology like this. The other two just simply didn’t have the same kind of technology in their bodies that they could do the same thing.

Once they reached the third floor, they found that it wasn’t that different from the other two floors. There was a hallway and there were a bunch of doors that were scattered out in front of them.

It seemed just like the second floor with how they were scattered around randomly.

From the way that the doors were scattered, it seemed like the experiments themselves were quite big that they needed these large rooms.

But since this was the third floor where the most important experiments were, they shouldn’t have spared anything for these experiments. It should be the reason why there were these rooms of varying sizes in the first place.

Before Xiao Mu could go up to one of the doors, Lin Fan suddenly said, "Wait, let’s just keep going for a bit."

Xiao Mu stopped and turned around to look at Lin Fan with narrowed eyes, but Lin Fan didn’t say anything as he looked forward.

Seeing this, Xiao Mu turned as well and started leading the way.

After all, Xiao Mu was the one that was most suited to lead the way in a place like this.

However, it didn’t seem like there were any traps in this place with how there was no reaction that came from in front of them.

It was almost as if everything that they had seen before this was nothing more than an illusion.

After all, they put all that security at the door and then they didn’t guard anything inside of the house. That felt like it was putting all of one’s eggs in a basket.

After walking for a while, they reached the end of this corridor.

Once they were there, they found that there was a similar end to this hallway.

"Is there more?" Lin Fan couldn’t help wondering for a moment when he saw this.

The way that this hallway just ended, it really felt like there was more to this place. It felt like there might be another elevator that would lead them to an even higher floor.

But in the end, it wasn’t to be.

Since they were at the end of the hallway, it meant that they should be where the records room and offices were. This was the place that had the information that they were looking for.

That meant that it was finally time for Xiao Mu to do its thing.

But the moment that Xiao Mu tried to hack the panel...there were guns that appeared in front of them.

Seeing this, Xiao Mu immediately pulled back its hand and moved away from the panel. At the same time, both Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan immediately went forward to raise a shield to block whatever would come out of those guns.

"Lasers?"

There were these beams that came out of the guns in the wall, but they didn’t seem to have any power behind it at all. When the beams came in contact with their shields, they disappeared without a trace without even leaving a single scratch.

After that first shot, it didn’t seem like there was anything else that was going to come out of those guns as they went back into the wall.

"Was it a warning shot?"

With the power that was behind the beam that had hit the shield, it felt like that was the case.

Otherwise, with the power of the Dao Sect, it should have dealt much more damage than that.

But since they were firing warning shots, it wasn’t as if they could just enter this room. Or at least until Xiao Mu figured out how to bypass the defenses of the panel, then they would be able to enter the room.

It seemed like Xiao Mu was filled with enthusiasm and wanted to try breaking through these defenses, but Lin Fan stopped him in the end.

Instead, Lin Fan had Xiao Mu open up one of the other doors that was in this corridor.

This wasn’t a door that was at the end of the hallway nor was it a door that was at the front of the hallway. This was a door that truly was right in the center of this hallway.

As for the reason why he chose this door, it was simply because he was curious what was being held on this third floor.

Xiao Mu didn’t doubt Lin Fan as it went over to the door to open it, but there was another frown that appeared on Xiao Mu’s face when it touched the panel. This was a frown that was even deeper than any that it had shown before.

It was clear that whatever was locking this door was hard for Xiao Mu to crack, not that it was a surprise that this was the case.

But in the end, Xiao Mu was able to crack it.

It didn’t seem like there were any warning shots for this door, so it seemed like whatever was hidden behind that other door was quite important that they would have extra security there.

Once the door was open, they didn’t head in right away.

Instead, Xiao Mu peeked its head in first to see what was inside of this room.

Though the moment that Xiao Mu saw the inside of the room, it had a stunned look on its face.

Following behind Xiao Mu, Lin Fan also had a stunned look appear on his face.

The only one that didn’t seem surprised to see this was Ye Qing Huan, but that confused look showed that she didn’t actually know what was happening here. So even if she wanted to be surprised like them, she just couldn’t be since she didn’t know what these things were.

But seeing the black stands that had all those different things plugged into them, Lin Fan knew exactly what this was. It was also because of this that he couldn’t help looking at Xiao Mu.

After all, what this is should be related to Xiao Mu and how it came to be.

"It’s not connected to me." Xiao Mu said when it saw the way that Lin Fan was looking at it.

An awkward look appeared on Lin Fan’s face when he was called out like this, but he didn’t say anything as he just gave a simple nod and looked back at the different data servers that were in front of him.

No matter how he looked at it, this was on a different level than the experiments on the second floor. In fact, he couldn’t even tell what they were trying to accomplish with this experiment.

Though this certainly did prove that the things on the third floor were on a completely different level from the things on the first and second floor. If just a random room in the middle of the hallway had something like this, Lin Fan couldn’t even start to imagine just what else was hidden in these rooms.

However, there was one guess that came to mind seeing this server room.

"This is most likely the source of all of their research."
