Chapter 1598: Just pure luck

Lin Fan and Xiao Mu didn’t stop there as they wanted to figure out what the story of this place was.

So that was why the two of them continued going to each of the doors that were in this place. They wanted to see just what kind of experiments were being done by the researchers of the Dao Sect.

Only each time that they opened the door, they were disappointed by what they saw inside.

"It’s the same no matter which room we look at..."

Both Lin Fan and Xiao Mu could only look on with confusion at the experiments that were contained within these rooms.

From time to time, Lin Fan couldn’t help looking at Xiao Mu with a bit of confusion in his eyes. After all, Xiao Mu’s AI should have been connected to the database of the Dao Sect.

The information that Xiao Mu would have access to would be on a different level from the information that he had access to.

Only the way that Xiao Mu was just as confused as him showed that it didn’t actually know anything about this place.

For that to be the case, then it meant that this place had to be labelled as top security that Xiao Mu wasn’t able to access even a trace of the files. Otherwise, Xiao Mu should have had an inkling of knowledge about this place.

"But why would anyone classify experiments like this as top secret?"

No matter how Lin Fan thought about it, it didn’t make any sense at all.

There was nothing of value from the experiments that were in front of him.

Or at least when it came to cultivators, it wouldn’t have helped them at all.

This kind of technology was basic, but it was also the foundation of technology that would be used in more technologically advanced societies. And in the end, the ones that benefited the most from these technologies were the mortals that lived in those societies.

After all, this kind of technology would be used to create machines that could do work that far surpassed what mere mortal hands could do.

But in the case of cultivators, it still wasn’t on the same level.

"Are they trying to raise the level of mortals to make it more likely that they would have children? Or are they trying to raise the level of mortals to increase the quality of their spirit roots?"

That was the only thing that I could think of since that was the only way that it would apply to the cultivation world. Otherwise, it really didn’t seem like this kind of research was necessary for the cultivators of the Dao Sect.

"However, this should also be the place that the AI inside of Xiao Mu came from. It isn’t as if this place should be considered a complete bust."

The fact that there was that AI inside of Xiao Mu showed that they had at least made some kind of breakthrough in that field. If there was a place where this research would be stored, then it would be in this place.

Seeing as how there were only these basic experiments that were in this place, then it should mean that this was all that was stored in this place. This was most likely the place where basic researchers did their experiments and stored them.

"Let’s go deeper in and see if we can find anything."

They looked at Lin Fan as if they knew that he was just giving medicine to a dead horse at this point, but it wasn’t as if they had any better ideas than this. What they had found so far was just too disappointing that it was hard to have any expectations of what was to come.

Still, it wasn’t as if they could leave this place that easily.

They still had to find the authority for Lin Fan to absorb into the token.

At least that was the one good thing about this place being so low level. If it remained like this, then at least it should mean that it was easy to obtain the authority of this place.

With Xiao Mu leading the way, it wasn’t as if there was anything that surprised them.

In fact, it didn’t seem like there were any traps that were installed in the corridors of this pavilion at all. It seemed like the only defenses that were here were placed on the doors themselves.

"So they don’t care about what happens to this place, they only care about what happens to their experiments. But are the experiments worth going this far for?" Lin Fan couldn’t help shaking his head when he saw this.

It wasn’t as if they just completely ignored the doors around them.

Even if they couldn’t check every single door that was there, it wasn’t as if they could just ignore every single door. Which meant that Xiao Mu would stop every few doors and open one or two of them up.

The results were the same where they only saw those basic experiments.

It didn’t seem like there was anything that was at a higher level being conducted in this place.

"Is this really the end?"

The hall didn’t last long as they came to the end of it after a while, but even so there was nothing here that showed that there were any special experiments that were being conducted here.

Nor was there anything that seemed like it would pass the authority of this place to Lin Fan.

"Let’s keep opening doors..." Lin Fan said with a sigh in the end since that was the only thing that they were able to see in the end.

But this time, it seemed like there was something different about the room that appeared in front of them. It was a difference that they could see right away since it wasn’t as if there was anything else in this room.

This was a room that was clearly built for records.

As soon as Lin Fan and Xiao Mu saw that this was a records room, they didn’t waste any time as they started digging through the records in front of them. This was finally a clue into what kind of experiments were being conducted here.

It was just that as they read the records in front of them, they saw that it wasn’t different from what they had seen previously. The records showed that the experiments were exactly what they thought they were.

So in the end, it really seemed like they were doing nothing but these basic experiments.

Only as Lin Fan was reading through these records, he could tell that there was something different about the way that the researchers wrote them.

As he read them, he slowly started to figure out a pattern, "It isn’t that they were forced into these experiments, these were experiments that they chose to do. So it seems like this was the level of knowledge that they were at."

Realizing this made him realize something else as well.

He had always thought that the Dao Sect had the technology from the other continent for a long time. But now that he was reading through their research records, it seemed like this wasn’t even close to being the case.

It seemed like they had only received the technology from the other continent not that long ago and they were still exploring how they were able to use it. That was why all of the experiments that he saw were those basic experiments.

As well, the records showed that there were other basic experiments beyond what they saw. These were most likely the experiments that were hidden behind the doors that they skipped.

The only thing that was still confusing was how the AI that controlled Xiao Mu came to be.

Though that wasn’t something that was hard to figure out.

"It was all just pure luck?" A shocked look appeared on Lin Fan’s face as he read the research notes in front of him.

These were the research notes that came from their research into the training dummies that came to be the base of Xiao Mu’s model. It turned out that they had only been trying to figure out what the AI chips that they brought back from the other continent were.

In the end, it was a happy accident that came about when they put them into the training dummies.

There were notes that showed that there were other research projects that were related to this, namely the database that was used by the Dao Sect. However, it didn’t seem like the notes regarding that research were stored in this place.

"Second floor archives?"

When Lin Fan saw this, he figured out that this wasn’t the end of this pavilion. It turned out that there was an entire second floor to this place where there were other experiments that were being done.

It also made sense that all of the basic experiments were being held on the first floor like this.

The problem was that they didn’t know how to get up to the second floor.

Not to mention that they hadn’t seen anything that could resemble something that would be able to bring them up to the second floor.

At the very least, it seemed like there was a path for them to push forward to.

So Lin Fan shared what he found with the other two.

Xiao Mu was the one that suddenly turned around to look back into the corridor. Or specifically, Xiao Mu was looking at the doors that were there.
