With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods
Chapter 1570: Visions of past
"Is this really it?"
Lin Fan wasn’t the only one that felt this when he saw what was in front of them.
The looks on Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu’s faces showed that they were thinking the same thing as him.
After all, what was in front of them was just too simple for what a pavilion in the main part of the Dao Sect should be. In fact, it didn’t even seem like this was supposed to be some kind of pavilion.
"But even if that was the case, it isn’t as if there would be some random cave here."
No matter how they looked at it, this cave really just stood out since it wasn’t even that big of a mountain that was here. It was nothing more than a small mountain that seemed to be formed from rocks that had been brought to this place.
"What is this used for?"
In the end, that was the most important thing that they couldn’t figure out.
It didn’t matter which direction they looked at this cave, they just couldn’t figure out what was special about it for it to be here.
So in the end, they had no choice but to go forward.
The one thing that threw them off was the fact that there wasn’t a single trace of pressure that was in this area. It was as if there wasn’t anything that was trying to keep them out at all.
This place almost seemed like it was inviting them in, which was something that they hadn’t encountered before in these ruins.
When they slowly made their way over and were standing in front of the cave, they didn’t enter the cave right away. Instead, they stood at the entrance of the cave and looked in to see if they could find anything at all.
"There’s nothing here."
It didn’t matter how they looked at the cave or tried to analyze it, they just weren’t able to figure out a single thing. It was as if there was something at the entrance of the cave that completely blocked them from seeing into it.
But then again, it wasn’t as if this was that surprising.
After a long moment of silence, that was when they decided to head into the cave.
While they had no idea what it was that was here, they didn’t feel like it actually posed a threat to them. But of course, they did move behind Lin Fan and held onto him just in case they needed to use the power of the token.
"Where did they go?"
Even though Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu had been holding onto him, the two of them suddenly disappeared without a trace. No matter how Lin Fan tried looking for them, he couldn’t find a single trace of their existence.
It was as if their very existence had been wiped out.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Fan calmed himself and was about to move forward. Only before he could take the first step, there was something that started to change in the surrounding area.
At first it looked like space was distorting, but then it felt like there was something that was appearing.
"Oh, look at him. He’s already getting up and asking for another beating."
Lin Fan couldn’t help giving a tremble when he heard this since this was a voice that he was very familiar with. It was a voice that he wasn’t able to forget even if he wanted to forget it.
After all, this was a voice that had tormented him once in the past.
He had thought that it was all over once he graduated, but now it seemed like this had come back to haunt him.
Seeing those faces that he had long forgotten, he couldn’t help returning to the person that he had once been in the past. Even though he was much stronger than he was back in his past life, there was something inside of his mind that stopped him from doing anything.
His breathing became faster and his eyes darted around as they came closer and closer, but it felt like there was something that was restraining him in place and didn’t let him move.
So in the end, there was nothing that Lin Fan could do as those past bullies of his came over.
Once they were around him, it didn’t seem like they were going to hold back at all as they raised their fists to beat him up.
As there was this force that was restraining him in place, Lin Fan wasn’t actually able to move out of the way of these fists. The fists that were coming at him hit him head on and he had to take the full force of these blows.
"That’s it?"
An amazed look appeared on Lin Fan’s face as he stared at the bullies that had surrounded him.
It wasn’t that it was too strong for him to take, it was just that these attacks were too weak. It didn’t even actually feel like he had been hit with anything with the sensation that came over him when these fists hit him.
That was all that Lin Fan needed to realize that things were completely different now.
After coming to this world, he was far stronger than he was in the past.
Even if they grouped up against him like this, it wasn’t as if they could ever hurt him if he was to stand there and let them hit him like some kind of training dummy.
Once this realization came to him, there was a faint smile that appeared on Lin Fan’s face.
It was clear now that this was some kind of illusion array that pulled from the memories of whoever was trapped in it. It was a high grade array that perfectly replicated the memories that were usually a form of trauma for the one that was stuck in this place.
The problem was how realistic it was.
The memory that it had pulled from Lin Fan was a memory from his past life.
Which meant that it pulled memories from when he was still a normal human.
It also meant that the ones that were in that memory were also humans.
Humans just couldn’t even be placed on the same level as the current Lin Fan. So this realistic replication actually went against the purpose of the illusion array.
It actually helped Lin Fan realize what was happening and break free from the illusions.
But before breaking free, he couldn’t help taking another look at the bullies that surrounded him.
It wasn’t that he was thinking about taking revenge on them, it was more that he couldn’t help taking one last look at them before putting everything behind him.
As Lin Fan looked at them, he couldn’t help thinking to himself, "What was I so afraid of in the past?"
As he was looking at them, he even felt like he pitied them a bit.
With all that he had been through, he could easily see through these bullies of his from the past. He could see through the insecurities in their heart and all of the other things that were on their mind.
In the end, the only thing that he could see them for was the kids that they were.
There was even a part of him that couldn’t help feeling embarrassed because of this.
But regardless of how he felt, it wasn’t as if he could let himself be trapped in this illusion forever.
Taking a deep breath, he suddenly released his aura around himself and blew away the illusions that were there.
With how realistic these illusions were, the humans that were around him weren’t able to take this aura for even a second. Once his aura hit them, they scattered away without leaving behind a single trace.
Once the illusions were cleared, Lin Fan realized what it was that was holding him in place.
It wasn’t even anything related to the illusions that were holding him here, it was the ones that had been holding onto his shoulders the entire time. Even though they had disappeared because of the illusions, it wasn’t as if they had actually gone away.
In fact, it seemed like there was something that was making them hold onto him even tighter. With how tight they were holding him, it would have been surprising if he had been able to move at all.
From the looks on their faces, it seemed like they were going through similar traumas to him.
Whatever the illusion array was in this place, it seemed to draw on the memories of whoever was trapped here and used their trauma to trap them.
Lin Fan was just lucky that his trauma was weak enough that he was able to break free that easily. But there was something strange about how he had been able to break free of this place.
"Why isn’t there another illusion?"
If this place was about trapping people in illusions, then there should be a second illusion that appeared after he broke the first illusion. It wasn’t as if the illusion array had been shattered because he had broken through that first illusion.
So if there wasn’t a second illusion, it could only mean one thing.
"This is a trial, so there’s no need for a second illusion since it means you pass once you break through the first illusion."
That was the only thing that would have explained why the illusion array didn’t activate a second time.
