Chapter 1353: More doesn’t mean useful

Chapter 1353: More doesn’t mean useful

The rest of what the noble said didn’t really give Lin Fan any other clues.

From the story that the noble told, these attackers had appeared suddenly and had disappeared just as suddenly. It was as if they had never been there in the first place with how they disappeared.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the sword had shattered and left behind pieces, then there wouldn’t have been any confirmation that there were enemies here.

Which was why there wasn’t much else that they had to say in the end.

“It’s clear that they are provoking us, but we don’t have the power to deal with it. Which is why we’re asking for support from the great Laver Empire.”

That was how the noble concluded this, but it was clear that there was some kind of reservation in his voice. It seemed like he wasn’t planning on putting his eggs in one basket with how he was pitching this.

Though this was completely understandable.

It wasn’t as if one could just rely on a single source of help.

This was something that concerned the fate of their entire kingdom, so they had to consider all kinds of things.

Agnus also understood this, so she simply said, “We’ll discuss this and come back to you with an answer.”

The noble gave a simple nod, but Lin Fan could sense the way that the noble looked at him.

What he felt the most was the surprise that the noble had when he looked at him.

After all, the way that Agnus said this made it seem like Lin Fan was included in this decision.

With the status that he had, it was surprising that Lin Fan would even be included in this.

However, it wasn’t as if it was the noble’s place to say anything.

Which was why the meeting ended like this.

Though this wasn’t the only meeting that they were going to today.

After the meeting with this noble was over, Agnus brought Lin Fan to another place for another meeting. This was another meeting with a different noble, but there were similarities between this meeting and the first meeting.

The first thing that was similar was the way that Lin Fan was treated.

It was only normal since there were doubts about his identity and status. He was someone that was new to this scene, so it was surprising that he was even allowed to attend these meetings.

Though with Agnus saying so, it wasn’t as if anyone could stop him.

The second similarity was that they reported the same thing.

It was another sword that was brought out as evidence and the moment that this sword came out, Lin Fan could sense the spiritual energy that came from it.

This time, he actually knew what he was looking for and was prepared when he looked at this sword.

Looking closely, he was able to see the traces of sword intent that were attached to this sword.

This meant that whoever had used sword energy to cut this sword in half like this had a decent proficiency with their technique. Or else they wouldn’t have been able to leave sword intent behind like this.

Though the only thing that he was able to prove with this was that it was someone related to the Five Great Sects that could do this. So the only thing that he knew was that the Five Great Sects were involved.

Even if the Mount Hua Sword Sect was the sect that specialized in sword cultivation techniques, it wasn’t as if they were the only ones that used them.

The Five Great Sects all had their version of sword techniques that suited being cultivated with their traditional techniques. So that meant that there were sword cultivators in all of the Five Great Sects.

Something like this could easily be forged by the other sects.

It was just that it had to be someone from the Five Great Sects to release this kind of sword intent.

So in the end, this didn’t really give Lin Fan any other information.

However, he decided to keep an open mind since this was only the second meeting of the day.

By the end of the day though, he felt that he had been completely wrong.

By the end of the day, he hadn’t been able to find a single clue as to who the attackers were.

The only thing that he had been able to confirm was that they were from the Five Great Sects.

The different meetings that he had been brought to had shown different things.

It wasn’t just broken swords that had sword intent on it that was shown to him in the end, but none of the other things that he was shown gave him any other clues.

There were other things that were stained with spiritual energy as well, but none of them gave any concrete clues like the sword intent did. Whoever had attacked had clearly hidden their powers and the source of said powers.

Yet the ones that attacked previously used sword techniques.

The more that Lin Fan learned about this, the more confused that he was.

After all, if it was an attempt to frame the Mount Hua Sword Sect, they would have continued using sword techniques until the end. They wouldn’t have suddenly changed it up like this since there was nothing to gain from it.

So the fact that they didn’t use these sword techniques meant that they had some kind of other plan.

The more that Lin Fan thought about it, the more confused that he became.

“It really seems like I won’t be able to get anything useful from this.”

That was the conclusion that he reached in the end.

Though when he thought about it more, he realized that there was something else that he missed.

Since it was a different system of power, it wasn’t as if they knew what they were looking for in the first place. So even if they were securing the area where they were attacked and searched for clues, it wasn’t as if they knew what to look for.

“They only know to look for the things that they think will matter, but they can’t sense the spiritual energy at all…” Lin Fan couldn’t help muttering to himself in a bitter voice.

“What is it? Did you figure something out?” Agnus who had been silently observing him from across this carriage asked this when she heard him mutter this.

Lin Fan looked at her and didn’t say anything at first.

Since the look on his face seemed like he was thinking things through, Agnus didn’t rush him as she waited for him to sort out his thoughts.

In the end, Lin Fan said, “I need to go to these places and search them myself. Otherwise, I won’t be able to find anything useful.”

Agnus didn’t respond right away, but the change in her expression made her thoughts clear.

After a moment of silence, she finally asked, “Why? This isn’t as simple as you think it is.”

Lin Fan knew that this was the case, but he still insisted, “I have to do this since I’m the only one that can do this.”

Agnus once again narrowed her eyes to look at him once more, but this time there was something different about the way that she looked at him. This time, he could feel the pressure that came from her glaring at him like this.

Normally Agnus didn’t reveal this side of her since she treated Lin Fan as an honoured guest. But at this moment, it was clear that she was seeing if he was a threat.

However, Lin Fan calmly looked right back at her since he knew that there was nothing wrong with what he said.

Though when he felt the pressure that came from Agnus, it did sink in that she was one of the strongest experts of the Laver Empire. She was one of Haku’s confidants and one of the first summons of Haku’s dungeon.

She was someone that had grown with Haku and reached a point where no one could look down on her.

From the aura that she released now, Lin Fan guessed that she was someone that might even be on the same level as his masters.

Seeing that Lin Fan’s expression didn’t change for a second, Agnus had to admit that she was surprised by this.

Though she had treated Lin Fan like an honoured guest, it wasn’t as if she thought that he was that strong.

But after not seeing him for a bit, she couldn’t help being surprised by the fact that he was able to look right at her when she released her aura like this. It was clear that something had changed with him from the time that she didn’t see him.

So in the end, Agnus said with a resigned sigh, “It won’t be right away, but there is something that can be arranged. Right now, you have to remain here at this conference until it’s over or else it’ll seem suspicious.”

Lin Fan gave a nod to show that he understood.

Though he wanted to find the clues as soon as possible, he knew that it was best to remain calm right now.

There was an enemy that was lurking in the dark and there was no telling what their next move was.

As long as there wasn’t any real danger, it wasn’t as if there was a need to rush.

Rushing would put them in a bad situation that the enemy could exploit.

So for now, it was best to take things slow.
