Chapter 1200: Mist Lands
Chapter 1200: Mist Lands
The land covered in mist that spread out in front of Lin Fan, this place was known as the Mist Lands.
No one knew where the mist that this place was named after came from, but the one thing that everyone said was that opportunity and danger hid behind this mist.
There were many different reports that came about this Mist Lands, but no one really had anything concrete about this place.
That was why this was a land that was filled with adventure.
But naturally Lin Fan wouldn’t charge into this place without a plan or preparation.
Once he was done admiring the scenery, Lin Fan raised his hand in front of him. If anyone had been around him, they would have thought that he was crazy for doing something like this.
Lin Fan didn’t care as he closed his eyes and focused on the mist in front of him.
In the end, he looked disappointed when he opened his eyes again.
What he had tried to do was take over the mist with his water elemental energy, but he found that there was something that was in the air that was resisting his control. No matter how he tried, he found that it resisted the power that he released.
For the mist to resist his control, was there something hidden in the mist that was resisting it or was there something that was already controlling this mist?
The latter felt more likely since the mist filled this entire area.
After thinking about it, Lin Fan tried something else.
Slowly, the mist that was around him seemed to be pushed back by something. It seemed that he was able to create a space in the mist where it couldn’t enter.
But the moment that Lin Fan brought his hand down, the mist surged forward and completely surrounded him once more. It was as if the mist had a desire to replace every single trace of air that was in this space.
This was clearly not normal.
“So there’s something establishing its domain in this place with the mist.” Lin Fan thought to himself when he saw this.
But even so, it wasn’t as if this information would tell him anything about this mist.
With that test over, Lin Fan continued forward in the mist. Though from time to time, he dropped something on the ground.
He had already heard stories from others about how they had gotten lost in this mist. So taking a tactic from his past life, he was leaving a trail of crumbs behind him to guide the way.
Of course, it wasn’t logical to actually leave a trail of crumbs.
What Lin Fan left behind was the special dirt that only he could create. No matter what happened, all that he had to do was follow the gravity field that was there.
Though this would only lead his way out of here, it wasn’t as if this would show him the way forward.
So the only thing that Lin Fan could do was blindly keep moving forward while leaving this trail behind him.
But in the end, it wasn’t as if he was guaranteed to find anything.
There were some interesting plants that grew in these Mist Lands since there was the mist that covered the entire area. With this mist present year round, the plants had to adapt to the lack of light in this place.
There were many different large plants that were around him, but he could see that these plants were all very thin. They had grown large flat leaves to try and capture as much light as possible.
At the same time, Lin Fan could tell that there were traces of mana that were coming from these plants.
It seemed that they had absorbed the mana that was inside of the mist and had come to store this mana in them. There might even be a few that had gained special abilities from absorbing the mana.
But Lin Fan didn’t approach any of these plants.
That was because he could see what was hidden with his sharp eyes. At the bottom of these plants, there were these little white shards that were gathered there.
They didn’t seem special enough that anyone would pay attention to them, but Lin Fan recognized them with a single glance.
There was another reason why these plants had been able to survive in this harsh environment. There was another adaptation that these plants had undergone to survive in this environment.
After all, there were few sources of nutrition that they could get.
So the only thing that they could do was create another way.
It was also the reason why there were so few creatures that lived in this mist.
Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense that there wouldn’t be any creatures at all in this place.
No matter where it was, life would find a way to bloom and creatures would be able to settle there. This Mist Lands wouldn’t be an exception to that unless there was something that was taking care of these creatures.
From time to time, Lin Fan did see some creatures, but all of them were avoiding the plants.
The one time that one of them approached the plants…
“Snap!”
There was no hesitation at all that came from the plant as it suddenly closed on this one creature that came too close. The creature wasn’t even expecting this to happen, which showed that it had to be a creature that had wandered into the Mist Lands.
After snapping closed, there was this crunching sound that came from it as if the creature was being crushed by the plant.
In no time at all, the plant opened up again and the creature disappeared.
But at the same time, there were a few more bone shards that came out of this plant and landed at the base of the plant. These bone shards came from the creature that had just been swallowed by the plant.
It was quite amazing that the plant had been able to clean off the entire creature in an instant like this, leaving behind only these few bone shards. It was as if all the flesh of the creature had been melted clean from the bones.
This really was a terrifying plant…
Though it wasn’t just this one plant that was terrifying, it was the rest of the plants that were just as terrifying. After all, they also had the same bone shards that were at their bases.
After walking for a while, Lin Fan really felt like he wasn’t going to find anything.
But then he suddenly came to a stop, though this wasn’t a good thing.
The reason that he had stopped was…
Looking around, Lin Fan suddenly raised his hand and pushed back the mist that was around him to create a space without mist around him.
The moment that the mist was pushed back, there was something that appeared around him that suddenly stopped moving. It seemed to be some kind of beast with the way that it moved, but it also seemed a bit humanoid…
This thing had been stalking up on Lin Fan while being hidden by the mist.
It seemed like this thing was invisible to the naked eye when it hid in the mist.
At the same time, it wasn’t it was the single one that had been trying to sneak up on Lin Fan. There was an entire group that had been trying to sneak up on him.
Once they found that the mist that had been hiding them had been pushed back, it seemed like there was a bit of panic that passed through them. However, the panic didn’t remain for long as they started moving again.
This time, they didn’t charge at Lin Fan and instead started running for the edge of the boundary. It seemed like the only thing that they wanted was to make it back to the mist that they could hide in.
Lin Fan didn’t do anything since he didn’t know if this was a trick, but soon the beasts disappeared into the mist without a trace.
However, he didn’t panic when he saw this.
Lin Fan just casually raised his hand in front of him and suddenly gave a wave.
When he did, there were waves of gravity that suddenly appeared outside of the mist free area that he created. These waves of gravity pressed down on something that was crushed into the ground.
Even though this thing was being crushed into the ground, he still couldn’t see them.
But Lin Fan didn’t need to see them to know what these things were.
That was because he was the one that had put the pieces of dirt on them in the first place that had created the gravity that now crushed them. When they had approached him, he had put these specks of dirt on them without them noticing.
Lin Fan walked towards the things that were being crushed into the ground, moving the mist free zone with him as he walked.
When he reached these things being crushed, they were revealed to be the same beasts as before.
But now that they were being held in place, Lin Fan could see these things better.
It turned out that they were indeed humans, but they moved like they were beasts.
At the same time, he could see that there was something strange about their skin.
It was pale as if they had never seen the light of day before.
“Just what are these things and how are they connected to the source of the mist?”
