Hayes quickly reassured to prevent him from erupting, "Don’t worry, Knox is impulsive when he does things. Once his impulse subsides, he still understands right from wrong."

Matthew Saxon snorted coldly, suppressing his anger, compressed his lips, and after a moment, he sneered, "It better be like that."

Having managed to calm him down, Hayes breathed a silent sigh of relief and instructed someone to go outside with a message, "Tell the gatekeeper to keep a close watch; as soon as Young Master returns, notify here immediately."

After waiting for about twenty minutes, Hayes was about to lose his patience, contemplating an excuse to retreat temporarily, when the maid came trotting over.

"Young Master is back."

Thump! Hayes’s heart, which was hanging in suspense, finally settled back into place.

If Knox didn’t return soon, he would have found an excuse to escape.

Although such behavior might seem a bit humiliating, with the immense pressure he’d been enduring for so long, he really couldn’t hold on much longer.

Matthew Saxon’s face was colder than the depth of winter, chilling people to the core.

Not long after the maid delivered her message, a tall figure appeared from afar, gradually walking towards them.

Hayes, as if seeing a savior, stood up enthusiastically before he even got close, and greeted warmly, "Knox, you’re finally back. Matthew has been waiting for you for quite some time."

Knox clearly saw him but his gaze didn’t linger; he only glanced briefly and then turned his head to look at Matthew sitting opposite Hayes.

Upon meeting Matthew’s icy gaze, he initially froze, and subsequently felt a bit guilty.

This guilt was a reflexive response.

No matter how fierce he sounded on the phone, when meeting face to face, his arrogance diminished before he even spoke.

But remembering how Matthew bullied Scarlett, Knox’s anger flared up again, and he defiantly met Matthew’s eyes for a moment, curling his lips into a cold smile, "I thought you had already left. I didn’t expect you to be so patient, Matthew. This is the first time you’ve waited for me this long. In the past, wouldn’t you leave in less than ten minutes?"

Though the words were sarcastic, they were also true.

Matthew Saxon never waited for anyone unless it was something important, but even then, it wouldn’t be for long.

In Knox’s memory, Matthew had never waited for him.

These words, undoubtedly, poured oil on the fire, causing Hayes’s face to change slightly, and he frowned as he reprimanded, "Knox, speak properly."

But Knox didn’t take his older brother seriously at all. He turned back to give him a glare and retorted irritably, "Big brother, how am I not speaking properly? You called me, and I returned right away. What more do you want from me?"

Hayes feared he might anger Matthew, and they’d start a fight, so he urgently took a couple of steps forward, signaling to him with a glance, and lowered his voice, "You know why he’s here. Just tell him Scarlett’s whereabouts and there won’t be any problem. Knox, I’m warning you, you’ve caused enough trouble as it is. I’ve tidied up your mess countless times. Even if you don’t thank me, you should at least cause me less hassle. For heaven’s sake, how does it make sense to hide someone’s wife?"

"For heaven’s sake?" Knox laughed coldly, "What does ’for heaven’s sake’ mean? If things were really fine, would Scarlett have left the Saxon Family? Why don’t you ask what wrongs he’s done to Scarlett?"
