Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 1121: Arch Nemesis

“Going north won’t have much of an impact on us.”

Chen Wen said, looking at Wuwu: “Don’t worry, they’ve already left, but your feeling wasn’t wrong. If that pack of wolves had clashed with you, it would have been very difficult for you to survive against them now.”

Hearing this, Wuwu’s heart tightened.

But Chen Wen immediately comforted him: “However, they definitely won’t start a conflict with you. You’re at the top tier of the food chain, and one-on-one, you can still crush them. Even one against many, as long as it’s not seven or eight wolves, you can still retreat safely.”

“Besides, they’re not very good at climbing trees. If worse comes to worst, climb a tree to avoid them, and eventually, they’ll leave by themselves.”

This made Wuwu breathe a sigh of relief.

He was indeed a bit afraid of that pack of wolves.

Chen Wen glanced around and said, “Since the threat has been eliminated, continue to wait in the nest. This snowstorm is weakening; at most, it’ll last another night before it stops. Once it stops, we’ll continue training.”

Wuwu nodded.

Chen Wen asked again, “Do you still have enough food? Is it cold at night?”

Wuwu shook his head: “There’s enough food, and at night, it’s not cold for me at all.”

Chen Wen gently stroked Wuwu’s fur and nodded slightly.

The fur of the Northeast Tiger is also two-layered, with a fine layer of short fur that clings tightly to the body, insulating it from the cold and retaining body heat.

The other layer is longer fur, which provides protection against wind and rain, also serving as an excellent insulator.

With these two layers of fur, Wuwu in temperatures tens of degrees below zero is even warmer than a human in winter clothing.

After advising Wuwu to be careful and cautious,

Chen Wen and the Golden Eagle returned to the camp.

…

Shortly after the Golden Eagle and Chen Wen returned, several hours had passed.

The weather turned gloomy, and the last wave of the snowstorm slowly began to blow.

At this time, to the north of Chen Wen’s camp,

a lynx hid in the trees, warily watching the group of animals below, the Siberian Plain Wolves that Chen Wen had discovered.

At this moment, the lynx had a very obvious wound, especially on its forelimb.

The wound was still bleeding continuously, looking extremely grim.

However, outwardly, the lynx showed no fear, and it watched the Siberian Plain Wolves below intently, its eyes filled with anger.

The lynx had been sheltering well in a cave from the snowstorm, but while it was resting at night, almost defenseless, it found the cave surrounded by this pack of plain wolves.

They seemed to have sensed the lynx’s presence and quickly decided to attack it.

Thus, as night fell, the ferocious pack of plain wolves launched an attack on the lynx.

The lynx’s response was swift.

Almost instantly, it broke free from the encirclement of the plain wolves and escaped into the trees.

But it was still left with a scar on its body.

The lynx didn’t make any rash moves, knowing that it was safe in the tree. However, the wolves below showed great patience and a strong intent to kill.

The struggle between the wolf pack and the lynx was life and death!

Many people might not realize this, considering both wolves and lynxes are predators that should, for survival, steer clear of each other.

But in reality, in the food-scarce wild, especially in winter,

killing a lynx could provide a lot of extra food for the wolf pack.

Lynxes and wolf packs are classic competitors, with highly overlapping diets. To ease the food pressure, wolf packs sometimes actively seek and kill lynxes.

Such was the case with the wolf pack the lynx encountered this time!

This wolf pack recognized the harshness of the winter season and decided to eliminate competitors in their territory, with hunting as a bonus.

However, competition between lynxes and wolf packs isn’t always one-sided, as lynxes often retaliate against wolf packs.

Some lynxes actively hunt wolf pups, while others even attack solitary wolves.

With excellent skills and stealth capabilities,

lynxes often have an advantage when attacking solitary wolves, but against a pack, they have no choice but to flee.

Run too slow, and they might pay with their life!

The wolf pack was focused on the White Lynx, knowing full well that if another lynx roamed this land, their available food would decrease significantly.

The lynx licked its wound, which showed signs of freezing.

This made the lynx anxious.

It worried that if the wolves remained, its wound would worsen more and more.

Moreover, the snowstorm seemed to sense its impending end, currently releasing its remaining power recklessly.

This made the lynx even more passive.

In desperation, there was still a glimmer of hope, as such weather might become unbearable for the wolf pack.

But just as the lynx awaited the wolves’ retreat, the wolf pack of ten members made a move.

Eight wolves ceased circling the tree and headed toward the cave where the lynx had sheltered from the snowstorm.

The lynx’s heart sank; this was not good news!

The wolves planned to have two members monitor the lynx while the rest rested in the cave. Once the two outside couldn’t bear it, they would rotate with other wolves.

A clever decision.

The lynx thought, but it was reaching its limit.

Without hesitation, the lynx decided to make a desperate escape.

Despite some harm to its forelimb, the lynx believed its agility remained largely unaffected.

It was confident that if it could break through, it would outrun the wolves with its exceptional speed!

The lynx considered this and made its move.

Under the watchful gaze of the two wolves, the lynx stood up.

One wolf let out a wuwu sound, seemingly notifying the rest of the pack, while the other bared its teeth menacingly at the lynx, trying to instill fear and dissuade it from fleeing.

But the lynx was decisive, its hind legs beginning to gather strength the moment it stood.

As the lynx sprung powerfully, it flew from the tree like a snowball, heading far away.

The two wolves below seemed not to expect such decisiveness from the lynx.

They immediately howled and began the chase.

The wolves in the cave heard the commotion outside and rushed out, trying to claim the lynx.

However, the lynx’s speed held steady.

After leaping from the tree, it endured the ripping pain from its forelimb and accelerated wildly through the snow.

It used every ounce of strength to make its four legs sprint through the snow.

Thanks to having met Chen Wen, the wisdom it gained allowed the lynx to withstand this trial. With resilient willpower, the lynx barely escaped.

Yet, the wolves showed no sign of letting it go, pursuing relentlessly from behind.
