Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1101: Tracking the Hunter Group
Chapter 1101: Chapter 120: Tracking the Hunter Group
“Who’s there! Huh? How come it’s you?”
The Hunter at the very end of the line saw who it was and couldn’t help showing a surprised expression.
Hearing this, Arseny also couldn’t help looking over.
But he let out a very surprised “eh” himself, then walked to the back of the team. “Chen Wen? How come it’s you?”
Chen Wen stepped out from the cover of the trees, glanced at Arseny, then at their team.
What surprised him was that the Northeast Tiger actually wasn’t among this group of people!
He didn’t show his real purpose directly, and instead said with feigned surprise, “I came out this time to hunt, but at the place where I’d stored my food I found footprints. I figured I’d track them and take a look. I originally thought it was some other Survivors, but I didn’t expect it to be you. This really is a coincidence!”
Hearing Chen Wen’s words, Arseny gave him a suspicious look.
He probed, “I remember where you stored your food, but we never touched that place.”
Chen Wen gave a wry smile and said, “Whether you touched it or not is a small matter. Mainly I’m worried there might be people around here who threaten our survival, so I wanted to come and check. After all, we don’t really keep watch at night anymore. If other Survivors get close, they really could pull off a surprise attack, so we have to prevent that before it happens.”
These words made Arseny nod reluctantly, counting as trusting Chen Wen, but he still said, “Those footprints over there were left by us. We were doing some things in that area before. Sorry to make you run for nothing. You can relax now, right?”
Chen Wen nodded and said very crisply, “I’m reassured, totally reassured.”
“If you guys need any help, you can just tell me. I went hunting earlier and I’ve finished that job now, so I happen to be pretty free.”
Hearing this, Arseny smiled and said, “No need, we have a lead on our matter already. Now it’s just the final wrap-up work. You can go do your own thing.”
Seeing that Arseny wasn’t really telling the truth, Chen Wen wasn’t in a hurry.
He nodded and let out a sharp whistle.
Not long after, the Golden Eagle landed on a nearby branch, and the lynx also slowly walked out.
Seeing the two animals, Arseny and the others’ eyes instantly went wide.
Boris couldn’t help saying, “We know the Golden Eagle. This lynx is…?”
“Oh, you mean it.”
Chen Wen smiled, stretched his hand toward the lynx, and when no one was paying attention, secretly winked at it.
The lynx lazily came up and rubbed its head against Chen Wen’s palm.
This scene made everyone’s mouths go dry.
Suka Bule!
This madman actually tamed a lynx?
Chen Wen said with a grin, “This is also part of this hunt’s haul, the lynx I tamed. Actually, I only managed to catch up to you thanks entirely to its sense of smell.”
Hearing this, Arseny and Boris were instantly tempted.
They’d been tracking all morning to get this far, and the biggest reason was that it was very hard to pinpoint that Hunter Group’s position.
If they had help from these two animals of Chen Wen’s…
But at this moment Chen Wen said, “Alright then, since you don’t need any help, I’ll head back first. Oh, I’ll be resting at the old main camp these few days. If you need anything you can come find me there. See you, and good luck.”
Seeing Chen Wen turn to leave, Boris hurriedly shot Arseny a look.
The meaning was simple: we absolutely cannot let Chen Wen go right now!
We really need his help!
Arseny hesitated for a moment.
The main reason for his hesitation was that the place and timing of Chen Wen’s appearance were just too coincidental.
Their target had been discovered right near the storage hut Chen Wen had built. Arseny had taken a look too and found that none of the meat in the storage had been touched.
Most important of all, that Northeast Tiger would rather eat organs and bones than touch Chen Wen’s food. That made Arseny very suspicious.
Of course, Arseny also knew that animals liked to eat organs because they’re higher in calories.
But the Northeast Tiger’s behavior was just too abnormal. He had to guard against Chen Wen.
Seeing that Arseny was still silent, Boris grew a little anxious.
He opened his mouth and proactively blocked Chen Wen’s path. “Uh, Chen Wen, we actually do have something that might need your help.”
After speaking, Boris glanced at Arseny.
Arseny let out a sigh, reluctantly thinking it through: if Chen Wen wanted a cut of the money, giving him a share was still better than letting that other Hunter Group take it all!
So he picked up where Boris left off and said to the turning-back Chen Wen, “Here’s the situation…”
After listening to Arseny’s account, a gleam flashed in Chen Wen’s eyes.
Perfect!
Looks like the Northeast Tiger really was taken away by that group!
He took a deep breath and said, “Alright, I’ll help you.”
Hearing this, an excited look flashed across Boris’s face.
He couldn’t help walking up beside Chen Wen, carefully circling around the lynx, then patting Chen Wen on the shoulder. “You’re the man, brother. Next time you want something, I’ll help you get it, even if it’s a woman…”
Before Boris could finish, Arseny, veins popping on his forehead, cut him off. “Shut it! You discuss the next steps with Brother Chen Wen. We’ll go treat Nikita’s wounds!”
Hearing this, Boris shut up with a sulky look.
…
“Brother Chen Wen, how do you think we should track that group?”
Boris and Chen Wen walked off to the side. He sat cross-legged on the ground and asked lazily.
Chen Wen sat down as well, thinking over the situation. “Can you pin down roughly where they are?”
“We’ve got a general direction.”
Boris said, “They definitely went south, and they’re carrying a big iron cage. On the road it’s easy to leave all kinds of traces. It won’t be hard to track them.”
Chen Wen nodded slightly. “Alright, since we can a direction, I’ll have the Golden Eagle go check things out. And with them lugging an iron cage, they can’t be moving fast. Finding them won’t be difficult.”
As he spoke, Chen Wen whistled and pointed south.
Already well aware of its task, the Golden Eagle immediately took off, flying south to scout the situation.
Seeing this, Boris said with great envy, “This guy is so obedient. Tell it where to go and it goes. Way too smart! I raised a peregrine falcon before, and it was nothing like this.”
Chen Wen wasn’t in the mood to talk about raising birds of prey and probed, “By the way, what kind of person is your employer? How can they even keep a Northeast Tiger, a top-level protected animal?”
This topic piqued Boris’s interest. He was a blabbermouth by nature, especially around people he considered familiar.
Boris saw Chen Wen as a brother and immediately said mysteriously, “I’ve got some guesses about that employer’s identity. They should be one of those people at the very top of the pyramid in our country. But the one keeping this Northeast Tiger as a pet is actually a little girl.”
This surprised Chen Wen a bit. “A little girl?”
“Yeah, she doesn’t look very old, but her status is very high. Even the people paying to hire us are very respectful toward her. No idea which family’s little princess she is.”
Boris said with a grin, “I can tell this Northeast Tiger means a lot to that little girl. The few times she showed up, she looked really haggard.”
Hearing this, Chen Wen nodded thoughtfully.
