Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1050 - 69: Overly Effective Traps
Chen Wen left the wild boar there without dealing with it.
His main goal now is to find the remaining wild boar herd.
But after walking over a hundred meters, the sound of wild boars crying out came again.
Chen Wen’s expression changed: "Oh no, can’t be?"
With doubts, Chen Wen quickly walked to the place where he set up the second trap, and the scene there made the corner of his mouth twitch slightly.
Another one!
Normally, Chen Wen would be delighted with his catch.
But now he aims to catch these wild boars in one go; if the traps keep hitting their mark, it might put great pressure on the herd, making them fearful due to their companions constantly being trapped.
Although they can’t understand the relationship between the traps and their companions being caught, if companions keep falling behind in a short period, they will definitely become anxious.
Chen Wen hadn’t expected this; normally his traps were just average, yet this time they’d performed extraordinarily well.
Two companions have fallen behind in a short time, both of them large boars, which would definitely make this boar herd uneasy!
Chen Wen glanced at the adult wild boar but had no mood to deal with it now.
He quickly left the second trap and headed to the third one.
There were some tracks around this trap, but to Chen Wen’s relief, it hadn’t been triggered.
It seemed this and the other traps hadn’t hit their mark, so the boar herd might calm down once they’ve traveled some distance?
Chen Wen pondered.
But upon reaching the vicinity of the fourth trap, he was utterly speechless.
In the woods, the right hind hoof of a young boar was hanging up, its body swaying in the air.
Honestly, seeing this wild boar, his vision went dark.
Hua Yun’s plan was completely ruined.
And not because of any mistakes by the two nor other reasons, but because the traps were too effective!
"It’s over, now this herd of wild boars will probably flee far away and not come back again."
Chen Wen held his head, finding it hard to accept this fact.
But just at this moment, the Golden Eagle circled above, noticing Chen Wen standing near the trap.
This area was relatively sparse in trees, and Chen Wen was dressed in noticeable clothing, so it was easy for the Golden Eagle to spot him.
The Golden Eagle immediately descended and revealed its discovery to Chen Wen: "Found the boars!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Wen quickly asked: "Where? Is it close to here?"
The Golden Eagle shook its head: "A bit far, but if we pursue, we can catch up with them, just about an hour and a half’s journey from here. There’s a small creek, a mud pit nearby; they’re in the mud pit."
Mud pit...
Chen Wen’s eyes suddenly became sharper as he spoke slowly: "Seems like this herd is trying to rest in the mud pit, but with this weather... they might not stay long at the pit, if we’re to pursue, we must act quickly!"
In that instant, Chen Wen made a decision: "You head back to camp; wait, I’ll peel a tree bark and give it to Hua Yun with you, then follow the direction of the boars. I’ll head out to see how it is now."
Having said that, Chen Wen didn’t delay. He took out his dagger, quickly carved a small piece of bark from a nearby tree, and then used the dagger to mark it.
Then, rolling up the bark, he handed it over to the Golden Eagle, which flapped its wings and departed.
Chen Wen didn’t bother with the two dead boars either; instead, he followed the direction mentioned by the Golden Eagle and pursued with his spear in hand.
...
At the camp.
Hua Yun was still immersed in the joy of the wild boar catch.
But as time dragged on, Hua Yun started to wonder: Where’s Chen Wen? Why hasn’t he returned yet?
Could something unexpected have happened?
Just as Hua Yun was pondering, with anxious calls, the Golden Eagle suddenly swooped down and landed in the temporary camp.
Seeing the Golden Eagle, Hua Yun was taken aback.
The Golden Eagle quickly dropped the bark onto the ground.
Hua Yun stepped forward and took the bark in her hand.
She turned it over and over twice, discovering Chen Wen’s mark on it.
"This is... the association’s coded message, meaning follow?"
Hua Yun was momentarily bewildered.
But with the Golden Eagle’s urging calls, Hua Yun realized: "There’s an unexpected situation, right? Chen Wen wants you to return and bring me over?"
The Golden Eagle couldn’t quite grasp her meaning.
A bit impatient, the Golden Eagle went to Hua Yun, pecked at her pant leg.
Now Hua Yun fully understood.
She quickly grabbed her bow, arrows, and a wooden spear for self-defense, then mimicked Chen Wen, patting the Golden Eagle’s body: "Lead the way, I’m following you!"
The Golden Eagle understood, taking off immediately, leading the way for Chen Wen.
Without mentioning Hua Yun’s journey, focusing on Chen Wen.
With relentless pursuit, he began to notice more tracks left by the wild boars.
"The direction is still maintained; however, judging by the current weather, the boars might linger a bit longer."
Chen Wen muttered to himself.
The weather now was quite clear, and under such sunny conditions, the boars might stay longer in the mud pit.
After all, they don’t quite like traveling at noon.
And without consecutive trap encounters, the boars might feel at ease.
Though just thoughts, Chen Wen’s speed wasn’t slowing down.
Around midday eleven o’clock, the seemingly endless forest in front of Chen Wen gradually began to dissipate.
Through the gaps between trees, Chen Wen saw the flatland in the distance and the river further beyond.
The river was quite wide, not merely a creek.
Chen Wen thought, slowing down his pace.
He approached the forest’s edge, observing the situation outside.
He didn’t find the mud pit mentioned by the Golden Eagle, indicating a directional error during the pursuit.
Considering this, Chen Wen momentarily refrained from wandering and chose to wait at the spot.
...
With the Golden Eagle.
Its sense of direction was naturally excellent; guiding Hua Yun, who breathlessly arrived at the forest edge near the river by noon.
The Golden Eagle perched atop a tree, calling shortly.
Hua Yun seemed to sense something, pointing at herself: "You mean rest a bit?"
The Golden Eagle tilted its head, not understanding.
Hua Yun tentatively sat down, and upon seeing, the Golden Eagle understood, calling: "Don’t move here; I’ll bring Chen Wen over!"
After that, the Golden Eagle quickly departed.
Hua Yun sighed, sitting on the ground, beginning to catch her breath.
After traveling a long distance, her stamina was approaching exhaustion.
Once the Golden Eagle left Hua Yun, it started searching for Chen Wen.
While searching for Chen Wen, it glanced at the mud pit, finding the boars still present.
This eased the Golden Eagle’s tension.
If the boars slipped away, this whole chase would be in vain.
Having seen the boars, the Golden Eagle flew upstream a bit along the river but couldn’t locate Chen Wen after minutes of flight.
This brought some doubts to the Golden Eagle: "Could Chen Wen have gotten lost?"
Although this possibility was small, it wasn’t zero.
Knowing how Chen Wen usually operates, he would wait conspicuously by the river, rendezvousing with Hua Yun before acting.
But currently...
Could it be he went downstream?
The Golden Eagle pondered, adjusting its direction, moving towards downstream.
Before long, it spotted Chen Wen waving while lying atop a large rock downstream.
This surprised the Golden Eagle; how did Chen Wen spot me first?
