Chapter 488: Chapter 320: Marquis Fengling (2)

Footsteps sounded from nearby.

A young Witch Spirit man wearing a cyan robe, his hair tied back, leaped from a building and landed in front of Han Ning and the others.

"It’s one of the Marquis’s guards."

Hassuning quickly sized up the newcomer, then explained to the others in a low voice.

Just as the young man finished speaking, a multicolored Spiritual Light flared up around him.

Five Soul Beasts of various forms rushed out from the tall building, arriving before the defensive line. They raised a massive Spiritual Shield, one that instantly spanned several hundred kilometers, to protect the other retreating Beast Masters.

Many of the Beast Masters stationed on the front line were already covered in injuries, panting for breath.

The number of Sea Soul Beasts was simply too great. As soon as they killed one wave, another would arrive. Injuries were inevitable.

"Thank you for your assistance, sir."

The guard greeted Han Ning and his group warmly while evacuating the area.

"Hassuning? Are you here to report special intelligence to the Marquis?"

Hassuning nodded. "Yes. Where is the Marquis?"

"He’s in that building over there." The guard pointed to a tall stone tower in the distance.

Hearing this, the group ordered their Soul Beasts to run, having just gotten a few hundred meters away.

Suddenly, a deafening roar echoed from the direction of the guard behind them.

A visible sound wave swept in from the distance, passing through the Spiritual Shields raised by the Soul Beasts and washing over the group.

The Beast Masters with higher Spiritual Power were mostly fine, but some of the Low Level Beastmasters who were helping their Soul Beasts attack and retreat instantly began bleeding from their orifices. They clutched their heads, fell from their Soul Beasts, and writhed on the ground.

Even Han Ning felt his mind go blank for an instant, to say nothing of the other ordinary Beast Masters.

He commanded his Soul Beasts to help the fallen people up, place them back on their respective Soul Beasts, and retreat quickly. At the same time, he looked behind him, trying to see what had happened.

The sight that met his eyes sent a chill down his spine.

Leaden clouds hung low, and fierce winds howled.

Where the sea met the sky to the north, a terrifying Giant Whale appeared, its body so immense it blotted out the sun.

A long, slender horn grew from the Giant Whale’s forehead. Its body was ink-black, with half of it submerged in the sea.

Even so, the part of its body above the water was nearly several thousand meters high.

Han Ning’s eyes widened. He channeled Spiritual Power to his pupils, magnifying his vision. He could vaguely make out dozens of tiny black dots standing and floating on the Giant Whale’s body.

Rain poured down in torrents amidst flashes of lightning and peals of thunder.

Compared to the sky-scraping Giant Beast in the distance, the tall buildings and watchtowers on the coastline looked like children’s toys, utterly insignificant.

"Son of a bitch! It’s the Deep Sea Race! Fall back! Anyone with a messenger bird, send it out immediately! Contact the other regions and tell them to send reinforcements!"

Cries of alarm erupted all around. Seeing the situation, the commanders in the group continuously sent out Spiritual Fluctuations.

"This Spiritual Pressure... it’s at least an Upper Monarch. An Emperor is unlikely." Sage sniffed the moisture in the air, quickly assessing the distant Giant Whale’s strength.

SPLASH—

The continuous sound of crashing waves filled their ears.

A high-pitched noise, like a shrieking steam whistle, resounded through the sky.

The Beast Masters who hadn’t managed to retreat yet looked up.

Pillars of water, so dark blue they were almost black, filled the sky above. Inside each pillar was a tall humanoid figure standing atop a Sea Beast.

The Deep Sea Race.

An aquatic, sapient Race living in the Celestial Sea. They are born with extraordinary Giant Power and can move through the water as freely as agile fish.

Due to their unique physiology, they didn’t even need to surface for air or wear special equipment, allowing them to move freely and ignore the immense pressure hundreds or even thousands of meters deep in the sea.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

The dark blue pillars of water shot down like falling water-meteors, flying past the retreating Witch Spirit Beastmasters and landing menacingly in their path.

Six dark blue water pillars streaked past their eyes.

The air shuddered violently.

A dozen or so Sea Soul Beasts of varying sizes instantly appeared before them.

There were ferocious-looking great sharks, as well as deep-blue, dreamlike jellyfish...

Each Sea Soul Beast was coated in a faint, mucus-like substance, which seemed to help them move on land.

Behind the Soul Beasts stood six tall humanoid creatures, each over two meters tall, with bare upper bodies and pale blue skin.

Their muscular torsos were tattooed with ferocious-looking Soul Beasts, etched on with some unknown red liquid.

The six young-looking members of the Deep Sea Race had grim expressions. They didn’t speak to each other, merely staring at the Witch Spirit People before them with cold, merciless eyes.

Their skin had a reddish tint and was covered in faint red scales. They had sharp teeth, and their heads were shaped like triangular rice balls, similar to manta rays in the sea.

"You..." the leading member of the Deep Sea Race was about to speak.

"You’re courting death!"

A murderous glint flashed in Han Ning’s eyes. Fei Lin raised her longsword, her wrist twisting.

A brilliant golden sword light transformed into a dazzling ribbon of energy and swept across.

SPLAT—

In an instant, the dozen-plus Sea Beasts and the six Deep Sea Race Beast Masters, all full of life just a second ago, were reduced to neatly sliced chunks of flesh, exploding in a cloud of bloody mist.

"How dare some small fry block our path? Keep moving."

Han Ning snorted coldly. As if nothing had happened, he called for the nearby Witch Spirit Beastmasters to continue their retreat.

"What were those things tattooed on their skin?" Han Ning casually asked Hassuning, who was beside him.

"Sea Soul Beast totems. It’s a shamanic Secret Technique used by the major families of the Deep Sea. Typically, whichever Sea Soul Beast is tattooed requires the blood essence of that same Soul Beast for the ink."

"With this method, the many families of the Deep Sea can erupt with terrifying Qi and Blood Power comparable to the Giant Power of a Soul Beast in a short time. It gives them the ability to overturn rivers and seas and dive into the Sea Abyss," Hassuning explained.

"I see."

After crossing more than ten kilometers, the group finally arrived at the base of the stone tower the guard had pointed out.

Unexpectedly, just as everyone jumped off their Soul Beasts and prepared to enter the tower...

From the distant horizon, the sky-shattering cry of a whale echoed once more.

A translucent sound wave spread rapidly toward the island’s interior like a ripple in water. Wherever it passed, Elements were annihilated and stones cracked.

The sound wave struck the Shields raised by the Soul Beasts, creating layers of ripples before they violently shattered.

The roars of Soul Beasts could be heard continuously, some near, some far, as flashes of light from colliding Spiritual Energy flared.

The sound of surging waves was as if it were right next to their ears.

A tsunami, nearly as high as the sky itself, blotted out the already dim light, plunging everything below into desperate Darkness.

"Run! Run!"

Faced with such a behemoth, the nearby Beast Masters felt their limbs go cold. An irresistible sense of suffocation washed over them, and they hastily retreated with all speed.

"If that tsunami comes crashing down, forget Xihai City—the entire Southern Four Islands will be finished..."

Hassuning said in a grave tone, his mouth slightly agape as he looked back at the sky-high tsunami.

If the Four Islands were destroyed, the number of casualties among the Witch Spirit Beastmasters on them would be incalculable—an immeasurable loss.

"What’s that?" Hassuning’s eyes widened as he spotted a streak of Flowing Light speeding in front of the tsunami.

"Your colleague, the Marquis’s guard. He seems to be heavily injured." Han Ning’s pupils contracted, his vision magnifying infinitely as he saw the distant scene clearly.

At that moment, of the six Soul Beasts that had previously surrounded the Marquis’s guard, five were gone. Only a single Simurgh Bird with resplendent, multicolored feathers remained, carrying him as it flew toward the stone tower.

Behind the Simurgh Bird, on the crest of the massive wave, swam a terrifying Giant Whale with jet-black skin.

BELLOW—

A cry that sounded like, yet unlike, a cow’s moo rang out.

A faint, dark light ignited at the tip of the Giant Whale’s horn.

In an instant, it split off a colossal wave several thousand meters high, which began to cascade down toward the stone tower where Han Ning and the others were.

BELLOW—

As the colossal wave began to fall, the Giant Whale on its crest watched the multicolored Simurgh Bird’s retreat. The light on its horn flashed, and it shot out a highly condensed jet of inky water.

BANG!

A terrifying crash resounded through the sky. The flying, multicolored Simurgh Bird exploded into a rain of blood that scattered in all directions.

A small black dot plummeted from the bloody rain toward the ground.
