Chapter 321: Chapter 219: Quite Confident

Ji Kun found himself admiring Zhu Jing. ‘Perhaps with Manager Yang gone, the Airex brand is about to enter another period of hardship.’

Today was Yang Wei’s first day at the company. Some training on corporate culture had been scheduled for the morning, but he said he’d just look over the materials himself. He wanted to check out a store instead, so Ji Kun was assigned to accompany him.

The entire way, all Ji Kun heard was Yang Wei bragging about his time at Huasheng Commerce. Ji Kun kept his head down and said nothing, but inwardly he was cursing, ‘You think you had a good reputation at Huasheng Commerce? We know all the supervisors you managed. What a load of crap.’

Seeing that it was almost lunchtime, Ji Kun made a polite offer. “Sir, let me treat you to lunch.”

“Alright. I like spicy food. Let’s have Sichuan cuisine.”

Ji Kun hadn’t expected him to agree so readily, let alone request Sichuan food. He had originally planned to take him out for something cheap, like a simple noodle shop. ‘How did I end up getting fleeced for a meal?’

‘Sigh, if it were Manager Yang, he would definitely be the one taking me to lunch and would never let me pay. The difference between people is stark when you compare them.’

“By the way, Ji Kun. I heard that girl, Zhu Jing, is planning to resign?”

Since Yang Wei was new to the company, Dan Biao had briefed him on the team’s situation, especially regarding any personnel changes, so that he could make arrangements in advance.

Ji Kun had only heard it from Zhu Jing that very morning, so he nodded.

“Sigh, that girl isn’t thinking straight. It’s not so easy to make it out there these days. I’ll have a word with her later. I actually think pretty highly of her.”

Ji Kun didn’t respond. ‘Zhu Jing is such a proud person. You think she’d care that you think highly of her? She probably couldn’t even be bothered to look at you. If Yang Wei wants to try and talk to her, let him. He’ll learn his lesson after getting shot down.’

Yang Hui and Shen Meng took a stroll down a pedestrian street. He had wanted to buy her a couple of outfits, but she said she had just bought so many in Jiang’an City recently and absolutely refused, so he had to drop the idea.

“Shen Meng, let’s go get something to eat. After that, we’ll go to the hotel and rest for a while.”

A blush crept onto her face. ‘How does he have so much energy all the time?’ she wondered. Going to the hotel definitely wasn’t just for a simple afternoon nap. Still, as his girlfriend, it was her duty. She made a mosquito-like hum of assent, then said, “I’m just worried something unexpected might happen with the store’s livestream.”

“You worry too much. It’s not like they’re new to the company. If something unexpected happens, they need to learn to handle it themselves. Besides, we’ll just be at the Xinyue Hotel next door, so we can get there quickly.”

Without thinking, Shen Meng blurted out, “But you take so long… What if we don’t hear the phone?” After saying it, she couldn’t help but blush again.

This kind of unintentional praise was the most sincere. Being told he “takes a long time”—that kind of compliment filled Yang Hui with glee.

He suddenly remembered the reward the system offered for conquering Hu Mei: an infinite stamina BUFF. ‘I have to get it,’ he thought, feeling his fighting spirit surge.

“Wait here, I’ll go buy you a fruit tea.”

Yang Hui smiled. He knew she was just being playful, so he let her. The very first time they went out, she had treated him to a fruit tea, and now it had become a habit. Whether he wanted one or not, she would always go and buy one for him.

The system had issued a three-month mission concerning Shen Meng. A third of the time had passed, but more than half the mission was already complete, so it looked like smooth sailing from here. He knew Shen Meng’s income used to be low, and she even sent money home every month. That bag she bought him last time had probably cost her entire savings. But things would be different starting next month. He had checked the numbers: to date, Yanghe Commerce’s online store had 530,000 in sales, with livestream sales at 170,000. Meanwhile, the joint livestream with NLB and Xinyue Group had reached 4.1 million.

Even without counting today’s Zen livestream sales or the online sales from the next few days, her income for the month would still exceed 200,000. With money, would he still have to worry about the mission’s progress being slow?

After he found out about Shen Meng’s income, the first thing he did was talk to Yang Na. At the beginning of their partnership, Yang Na had set his salary at 20,000. But because Yang Hui had since established the company’s salary standards for every level, she had been paying him at the director level for the time being.

The director level corresponded to the P13 rank, with a base salary of 66,000/month. But since he was acting as the one in charge, he didn’t receive any performance bonuses—only a year-end bonus and shareholder dividends, where his returns would be higher. Yang Hui therefore demanded that she adjust his salary to 100,000/month.

In the beginning, Yang Na would have surely disagreed. But now, the company’s profits were substantial, and the employees’ incomes were also very high, so she didn’t push back. She even joked, “At this rate, I’ll have made my investment back in two months.”

‘Made her investment back? Ha! She’s thrown herself into the bargain. Sooner or later, she’s going to be devoured whole by Yang Hui.’

He took the fruit tea Shen Meng handed him. She had carefully inserted the straw already, probably because she understood Lord Yang’s nature—laziness.

Inside the Sichuan restaurant, Ji Kun politely handed the menu to Yang Wei. “Sir, please, order whatever you’d like.” In his head, however, he was pleading, ‘Please don’t order too much. Spare me some money. I’m trying to save up to find a girlfriend.’

He watched with desperate eyes as Yang Wei picked the steamed fish head with chili peppers, the Dongpo pork knuckle, and the spicy diced chicken—and then kept ordering. Ji Kun’s heart was bleeding. ‘Fuck, can you even eat all that? I was nice enough to treat you to a meal, and you’re taking advantage of me like this!’

“How about this table for you two?”

Hearing the voice, Ji Kun looked up and saw Yang Hui and Shen Meng sitting down at a table not far away. When Yang Hui saw Ji Kun, he nodded in greeting.

A flood of memories washed over Ji Kun. When Yang Hui had first arrived at the company, Ji Kun had suggested the team split the bill to treat him to a meal, but he had refused, saying that as their leader, he wouldn’t give his subordinates an opportunity to pay.

At the time, Ji Kun had just thought that this leader was a good guy who looked out for his subordinates. But now, compared to this Yang Wei, Yang Wei seemed all the more detestable.
