Chapter 319: Chapter 219: Quite Confident

Han Ya looked at Zhu Jing. “What about you?”

Everyone knew Zhu Jing was close to Yang Hui, so all eyes immediately turned to her.

Zhu Jing had nothing to hide. She said calmly, “I’ve already submitted my resignation.”

“Holy shit, you’ve really got guts. You truly are our leader’s most die-hard fan.”

Almost everyone thought Zhu Jing was being impulsive. They respected Yang Hui, but they had only worked together for a month. Getting them to follow him with such unwavering devotion was likely out of the question, and besides, Yang Hui didn’t want them to do that anyway.

Taking one person—Zhu Jing—was one thing, but poaching an entire team was unethical. That was why he had instructed Zhu Jing not to reveal where he was going before she left the company.

Since the others weren’t going to resign and follow Yang Hui as Zhu Jing had, they wouldn’t discuss the matter in the open. If they were going to talk about it, they’d have to do it behind Zhu Jing’s back.

In the First War Zone, President Zhao had been waiting anxiously for the past few days. Zhang Chun still hadn’t called her in for a talk, and neither had HR from headquarters. President Tian would no longer be the General Manager of the Qingjiang Region as of July 1st, yet a successor still hadn’t been announced.

There was still a week to go, but for her, each day felt like a year. The Regional General Manager—that was a position of real power. Who wouldn’t want it? Moreover, if a woman her age could secure that role, she would be considered formidable on a national scale. From there, she could advance even further; she might even have a shot at becoming a director for one of the major regions.

Just then, she received a call from her nephew, Zhao Rui. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears, saying that regional HR was coming to fire him.

President Zhao’s first thought was that this was President Tian’s last-ditch effort—a strike to retaliate against her. ‘He must have inside information that I’m about to take his place,’ she thought. ‘He thinks I’m the one who orchestrated his removal, so now he’s using his last week in the region to get rid of Zhao Rui to get back at me.’

“Zhao Rui, just hang in there for now. This is a very sensitive time, so I can’t step in directly. Tell me exactly what happened.”

He explained his conflict with Yanghe Commerce, how they had filed a complaint with the regional office, and how HR had come to San Yang Xinyue Square today to fire him.

Hearing this, President Zhao exploded with rage. “For fuck’s sake, Zhao Rui! Didn’t I tell you this was a sensitive period and that you needed to keep your head down? You’re not just an idiot, you have a terminal case of stupid! You’re a lost cause!”

She didn’t really believe the regional office would make a move on Zhao Rui just for Yanghe Commerce. She was convinced this was a deliberate attack on her, and that moron Zhao Rui had walked right into the line of fire. ‘Can’t he even endure the darkness before the dawn?’ she fumed.

But scolding him was one thing; she still had to save him. If her own nephew got axed, how could she save face?

“Ignore HR. Just call in sick and drag it out until next month. In the meantime, I’ll look into the situation over the next couple of days.”

Her plan was to stall. She would drag things out until the company’s official appointment was announced. She believed that once the regional staff saw she was about to become the new regional head, President Tian’s orders would no longer have any bite.

The announcement could come at any moment. As long as they could drag things out until it did, they would have won.

After hearing her advice, Zhao Rui didn’t even bother going back to work. Afraid he’d be called into another meeting, he shot a leave request to President Zhang, submitted it in the HR system, and left without waiting for approval. It was better to make a clean getaway.

‘His thinking was crystal clear. So what if President Zhang doesn’t approve it and it’s marked as an unexcused absence?’ he thought. ‘As soon as my aunt takes her post, all these problems will vanish. This is the perfect chance to take a few days off. Maybe I’ll go have some fun in Qingzhou. Didn’t that guy Han Chao say Li Yang wanted to hang out? I’ll just go and wait there until my aunt’s appointment is announced, then I’ll head back.’

President Zhang and the HR manager, who hadn’t left yet, exchanged a look of utter bewilderment upon receiving Zhao Rui’s message. “What kind of specimen is this? Who comes up with something like this? Does he really want to force the company to fire him via a formal internal announcement?”

The HR manager stood up and said, “I’m heading back to Qingzhou. I’ll report the situation to my superiors and see how to handle it. In all my years, I’ve seen people try to get more severance pay, but I’ve never seen someone who’s been fired and still shamelessly clings to their job.”

President Zhang didn’t get it either. It wasn’t as if the company was unwilling to offer severance; they had even asked if he had any other demands. That meant they were determined to pay him off and see him gone. What was the point of clinging on in a situation like this?

Yang Hui left the office early and headed to the main Xinyue Square store. Today was the joint live stream event for the Zen brand and Xinyue Group’s Qingjiang Region. Thanks to their experience from the previous collaborations with Airex and NLB, both sides were already comfortable with the process, and everything went much more smoothly.

The only point of minor contention was that Cheng Jun’s side, as well as the representatives from the Zen brand, had hoped Shen Meng would host Zen’s first live stream. After all, her performance from the Airex to the NLB events was a matter of record—each success was another feather in her cap.

However, Shen Meng herself had a different take on the matter. For one, she believed the newcomers needed to be trained and that the company should put its trust in them. For another, she wanted her team members to earn more money, which would in turn make them more passionate and invested in their work.

Yang Hui, of course, supported her decision. But since this was the two newcomers’ first time, Shen Meng would be on-site to provide guidance whenever needed.

The format for the day was a rotation between two hosts. They would switch off every two hours, with each host streaming for a total of four hours. This meant the total broadcast time was longer than Shen Meng’s previous stream.

After all, no one could stream for more than four hours straight. It was simply too exhausting.
