Chapter 314: Chapter 217: Making Things Difficult (2)

In order not to delay the site survey and the creation of the design blueprints, the engineering team worked overtime on the weekend and went to San Yang Xinyue Square. Once they arrived and contacted Zhao Rui, he claimed that it was his day off and he wouldn’t be in until next week.

Yang Na was furious for two reasons. First, he was the one who set the time, and after her people worked overtime on a weekend to go to the site, he deliberately avoided them. Second, it was Saturday, but for a project like Xinyue Square, there should always be someone on duty. Even if he wasn’t there, he could have arranged for a colleague to meet them.

‘Isn’t he just obviously screwing with us? It’s outrageous.’ Women are emotional creatures, and they get furious when faced with situations like this.

‘Zhao Rui?’ Yang Hui remembered that moron. This was clearly aimed at him. ‘But how does he dare? Does he think that with President Tian about to leave, I’ve lost my backing?’

‘It’s a real possibility. Given Zhao Rui’s intelligence and his vindictive nature, this is exactly the kind of thing he would cook up.’

“File a formal complaint against him. He’s an idiot, so don’t be subtle about it—he wouldn’t get it anyway. Use Yanghe Trading Company’s name to file complaints with both the store and the regional office.”

After hanging up, he noticed Huang Lingyu gazing at him, her face flushed. He subconsciously glanced down. ‘Sigh… can’t be helped. This young body is just bursting with energy.’

“Lingyu, you’re all done in, aren’t you?” ‘She’s probably in no condition for round four,’ he thought. ‘She’s already chafed raw.’

Huang Lingyu pressed her lips together and insisted, “I’m fine.”

Yang Hui stood up. “Forget it. I’m not so heartless as to not know when to be gentle. I’ll let you off the hook for today. I’m going to take a cold shower.”

He had just started to stand when Huang Lingyu grabbed his arm. She then climbed over and straddled his lap.

In a teahouse in Sanyang City. Last night, Zhao Rui and Han Chao had been drinking at a KTV until after 1 AM. To cultivate his relationship with the faction of the incoming President Zhao, Li Yang had gone all out. Han Chao had not only ordered two hostesses each for himself and Zhao Rui, but they had also taken the women home with them.

What Han Chao didn’t know, however, was that Zhao Rui couldn’t even handle one woman, let alone two. It was a complete waste of money.

Just then, Zhao Rui tossed his phone aside and sneered, “A site survey? He can survey my ass. I’ll make him run back and forth a few times before he gets anywhere. And that’s just the beginning. There’s still the blueprint review and the fire safety renovation stages. I’ll bury him in red tape.”

Han Chao feigned concern. “Do you think they’ll report this to the regional office?”

Zhao Rui took the cigarette from Han Chao and said with immense arrogance, “So what if they report it? What can the regional office do to me? Chew me out a bit? This all blows over at the end of the month, which is next week. If that guy is smart, he’ll learn to eat dirt and keep his mouth shut. If not, I’ll have all the time in the world to ruin him. I’ll even make sure his two stores at the Qingzhou Xinyue Plaza First Store are run into the ground.”

‘Thinking back on Yang Hui’s personality, Han Chao knew he wasn’t the type to just take this lying down. And that was for the best. Both he and Li Yang were eager to see Yang Hui pick a fight with the Zhao family. Once President Zhao took over the region, Yanghe Commerce would be toast. Of course, Li Yang was still a bit concerned about Zhang Chun, but Han Chao figured that if Yang Hui’s relationship with the regional office soured this badly, Zhang Chun would have no reason to keep backing him. Wouldn’t it be better to find a new proxy? Someone like, say, Futong Commerce, who was already making overtures?’

“So, President Zhao will be arriving in Qingzhou at the end of this month, right?”

Although Zhao Rui sounded certain, things could always change at the last minute. Both Han Chao and Li Yang had been monitoring the situation closely for days.

Zhao Rui chuckled. “Relax. At this point, I might as well tell you. President Tian’s dismissal was very sudden, so it must have been a snap decision by headquarters. My aunt was already one of the company’s hand-picked successors for regional general manager. On top of that, word from HR at headquarters is that the new regional president is a woman in her thirties. Who else could it be? We’ve searched the entire group, and there isn’t a single other person who fits that profile.”

Han Chao wasn’t privy to the internal politics of the Xinyue Group, but he had to admit that Zhao Rui’s logic was sound. “President Zhao, let me get you some more water. We should think about what local specialties we want to try for lunch.”

“Old Han, you know what I’m like. I don’t really care about the food. Just make sure the evening’s activities are well-planned.”

“Of course, that’s a given. I’ve really gotten into it these past couple of days myself. Mostly, I just love hearing you sing, President Zhao. You’re incredible. The way you sang those Pan Changjiang songs yesterday was spot on!”

“When the hell did I sing any Pan Changjiang songs? I was singing Hua Zai all night!”

Uh… Han Chao had been too busy drinking and hitting on the hostesses to pay any attention to the singing. He just thought the guy’s voice sounded a bit like the comedian Pan Changjiang. Now that Zhao Rui claimed he was singing Hua Zai’s music, Han Chao racked his brain and had to admit—not a single song had been recognizable.

Just then, Zhao Rui’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and immediately rejected the call. “This guy from Yanghe Commerce is a fucking idiot. I already told him I’m not going, but he won’t stop calling.”

BUZZ—

“See? Now he’s sent me a text—”

He glanced at the message. “Holy shit, he’s threatening me! Says he’s going to file a complaint. Damn it, let him try! Who the hell have I, Zhao Rui, ever been afraid of?”

In a fit of pique, he texted back, “Go ahead and file your complaint. Let’s see what you can do to me.”

Han Chao smirked to himself. ‘Still,’ he thought, ‘this Zhao Rui really isn’t too bright. No matter how powerful your connections are, if you keep doing things where you’re so clearly in the wrong, you’re bound to give people leverage against you.’

President Zhang, a vice president at San Yang Xinyue Square, had taken the day off to visit his hometown. His family was just sitting down for a meal when his phone suddenly rang. He pulled it out and saw it was a call from the regional vice president of operations. He hastily carried the phone outside to a quiet spot before answering. “Sir! Hello!”
