Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 213 - 212: I’ll Give You Anything You Want
"You little bastard!" Pei Yongshen staggered back two steps, his expression ugly.
He flexed his numb arm and summoned his Soul Beast.
It was a long-limbed eagle with black eyes and a sharp beak.
Ting Ying shot out, its piercing shriek forcing the Black Eagle to retreat.
A clear case of Level suppression. The Black Eagle coughed up blood before a single blow was exchanged.
A sharp pain shot through Pei Yongshen’s head, and his eardrums felt ready to burst.
He swayed on his feet and hastily recalled his Soul Beast.
Pei Yin advanced two steps.
The soft TAP, TAP of his black military boots on the floor was suffused with a menacing pressure.
"What are you all gawking at!" Pei Yongshen lost his composure and frantically glanced around.
Some twenty Awakeners materialized, completely surrounding Pei Yin.
Their faces were pale, and none of them had summoned their Soul Beasts. They kept a tremulous, safe distance, clearly having no desire to engage Pei Yin.
Pei Yongshen cursed inwardly but forced a smile. "Now, don’t be angry. It’s been so long since you’ve been back."
Pei Yongshen didn’t want to burn this bridge; otherwise, the Alliance would surely come after him.
He didn’t have the means to hire any High-level Awakened. The ones he had were all between Level A and S; there wasn’t a single 2S Awakened among them.
Even with over twenty Awakeners, Pei Yin might still come out on top.
Pei Yongshen’s smile was rigid. "Listen, nephew, we’re all family. Let’s talk this out. You come back and immediately start throwing punches... If I did something to piss you off, you could at least tell me what it was."
Pei Hu ran over with a crowd in tow. "What’s there to talk about with him! The inhuman monster. All those years of resources I wasted on him."
Seeing his elder brother, Pei Yongshen straightened his clothes, the fear on his face vanishing in an instant.
Pei Hu snorted. "Three years ago, I nearly died by your hand. Did you really think I wouldn’t be prepared for you?"
Over thirty people stepped out from behind him. While only half were Awakened, their ranks included a 2S Awakened.
Pei Yin’s expression turned cold as he watched the gloating man before him.
He couldn’t help but sneer. "If the Clan Leader and his faction weren’t protecting you, do you really think I’d be scared of a useless piece of trash like you?"
Pei Yongshen chimed in with false sincerity, "Big Brother, there’s no hatred so deep between a father and son that it can’t be resolved. Just talk things through."
Pei Hu glanced at the woman sobbing on the floor, then spun around and slapped Pei Yongshen across the face.
"How many times have I told you? No more of your sordid affairs in this house."
The force of the blow snapped Pei Yongshen’s head to the side, and his teeth felt loose in their sockets.
He raised a hand to cup his stinging cheek, the full pain yet to set in. His eyes flared with resentment.
Pei Yongshen muttered under his breath, "How was I supposed to know he’d be back today? The Clan Leader didn’t say a word to me."
Pei Hu whirled around and kicked him. "How many times have I told you? I forbid any ’transactions’ in this house, whether he’s here or not!"
Pei Hu grabbed Pei Yongshen by the collar and hauled him up. "You know he can’t get over that bitch mother of his, yet you still dare to provoke him to his face! If he snaps, not even I will be able to save you!"
He threw him forcefully to the ground.
Pei Yongshen kept his voice low, muttering curses. "If he’s so high and mighty, he shouldn’t use the Pei Family’s resources. All of it was bought and paid for with women. If he finds it so dirty, then he should’ve stayed away!"
Pei Hu’s expression soured.
He always accused Pei Yin of wasting resources, but in truth, a large portion of the family’s assets were because of Pei Yin.
The Alliance was heavily invested in cultivating Pei Yin, and many factions had made early investments in the family to curry favor with him. Pei Hu himself had lost count of how much money he’d skimmed off the top thanks to his son.
Before Pei Yin even learned of his mother’s death, Pei Hu had used her as leverage to extort countless vials of medicine from him.
He had gradually siphoned away everything, including the supplies the Alliance had allocated directly to Pei Yin.
Unfortunately, Pei Yin eventually discovered the truth about her death.
If he had managed to keep it hidden just a little longer, he wouldn’t be in his current position, forced to curry favor with the Clan Leader.
Pei Yin glanced at Pei Hu’s colorless face and sneered, "You’ve spent so long crawling your way up women’s skirts that you’ve forgotten how to stand up straight. Now you think everyone in the world needs to rely on women to get by."
Of all the great families on the Imperial Capital Star, the Pei Family’s methods of expansion were the most reviled.
Whether dealing with outsiders or their own, they relied on using women to forge and maintain connections.
The most disgusting of all were the brothers, Pei Yongshen and Pei Hu, because the women they bartered away were ones they had already used and discarded themselves.
That included Pei Yin’s own mother—a woman Pei Hu had grown tired of and was preparing to gift to someone else.
The only difference was that he never got the chance. The woman killed herself before he could send her away.
If Pei Yin hadn’t happened to be an Awakener, Pei Hu might have disowned his own son and cast him out.
After all, Pei Hu had no shortage of sons. He had fathered an obscene number of them.
Pei Yongshen was dizzy and confused by the exchange.
He staggered to his feet. "Oh, I almost forgot. You truly haven’t used a thing from the family, have you? My big brother must have been blind. Otherwise, with a nephew as wonderful as you, why would we ever need to ’manage’ women?"
Before Pei Yongshen was even steady on his feet, Pei Yin seized his arm.
Talons scratched at Pei Yongshen’s arm, the long claws digging into his flesh and tearing bloody furrows.
A scream of pain caught in Pei Yongshen’s throat as his strength was slowly drained away.
Pei Yin grabbed him by the hair and slammed his body into the silver-gray, floor-to-ceiling window, shattering the reinforced glass.
Pei Hu snapped out of his stupor. "You lunatic! That’s your own uncle!"
He waved two men over to carry Pei Yongshen away for Healing.
Pei Yin scoffed. "You have sons like a plague of locusts; you could summon a swarm with a wave of your hand. You really care about one brother?"
He added contemptuously, "Is that part of the Pei Family code? Deep fraternal bonds, but deep-seated paternal hatred?"
Pei Hu’s face flushed with anger. "That’s just how the world works! If you have no power, you get trampled. The moment you Awakened, I took you under my wing and cultivated you with care. Have I not been good enough to you?"
His eyes grew bloodshot as he demanded, "Did you deliberately get Pei Yuan killed?"
’I’ve sired a mountain of sons, but only a dozen were ever worth a damn, and Pei Yin had to go and cripple one.’
Pei Yin replied with dripping sarcasm, "Aren’t you famously fertile? What’s one dead son to you? Is the number of people who have died by your hands a small one?"
"So it really was you!" Pei Hu’s hands clenched into fists, and he trembled with rage.
’Since he refuses to be on my side, there’s no reason for me to hold back any longer.’
’If I can just make Pei Yin’s death look like an accident, the Alliance will be powerless against me.’
"Today, I’ll make you understand! Without the Pei Family, you are nothing!"
Pei Hu fell back and waved his hand. "Cripple his Soul Beast!"
Several Soul Beasts swarmed forward in a coordinated attack.
Ting Ying flew out, unleashing another piercing Spiritual Attack.
It aimed for their weak spots, each strike fast, vicious, and precise. Within moments, it had beaten them into submission.
Seeing the cowed Soul Beasts, Pei Hu felt a flicker of anxiety.
He yelled, "Forget Ting Ying! Go for the man!"
Five men lunged from the left and seven from the right. The others moved to lock his neck and pin his limbs.
Pei Yin dropped his wrist to parry, using the opponent’s momentum to spin around and deliver a vicious leg sweep that sent attackers flying.
Ting Ying flew back, merging into Pei Yin’s body.
Pei Yin shifted into his half-beast form, then used Instant Teleportation to appear in the middle of the crowd.
An ear-splitting eagle’s cry echoed as he weaved through them.
His ten fingers elongated into sharp hooks. A blur of claws, a series of sickening snaps, and sprays of blood filled the air as limbs were severed at the shoulder and thigh, thudding to the floor.
The floor was littered with mangled limbs, and blood flowed like a river.
Pei Yin flexed his new talons, studying them with an appreciative gaze.
Ting Ying flew down to land on his powerful wrist. "Slicing up people seems to require more precision than carving up beasts," he mused.
Terror filled Pei Hu’s eyes. "You’re insane! You’ve gone completely insane!"
Pei Yin turned to face him.
Pei Hu realized what was happening. ’He’s not going to kill me?’
He let out a breath of relief, then immediately started screaming, "I should have strangled you the moment you were born!"
The words had barely left his mouth when all four of his limbs were severed.
A scream erupted from beneath the bed.
Pei Yin paid it no mind and vanished from the spot.
Pei Hu wasn’t dead, but his Self-healing Ability wasn’t strong enough to save him from bleeding out.
He stared desperately at the woman under the bed. "Save... save me, Zhang Hulan! Save me! I’ll give you anything you want!"
