Chapter 345: Chapter 195: 3 Days Later! Calm and Stable Days! Changes at Home and in the Team

"It’s been twenty-one days. To think we’ve been in the Primitive Jungle for this long..."

"Yeah, and there are only nine days left until the next traversal..."

Chen Chong, Xu Jun, Wang Biao, Jia Wen, and Qi Zhen sat around the dining table.

Today’s breakfast was as lavish as ever.

A large bowl of pumpkin in sugar syrup, a basin of steamed sweet potatoes, two plates of flash-fried shredded potatoes, two plates of stir-fried sweet potato leaves, and a big pot of braised wild boar, stewed until tender.

Of course, breakfast for the Tiger Striped Dog and the Rock Armor Eagle had also been prepared.

Chen Chong carefully portioned out their daily meal of meat and bones from Extraordinary Creatures, distributing it evenly according to the weight of the eagle and the dog to ensure their developmental needs were met.

Chen Chong hadn’t forgotten the swarm of Fierce Poisonous Bees on the top floor, either. He had already brought them two and a half kilograms of meat from the Blood-tooth Python.

After a day and a night, the beehive had changed dramatically.

Whether it was because they knew the hive box was too small for the swarm or simply due to their natural nest-building instincts, the Fierce Poisonous Bees had begun bringing back countless lumps of mud from the Primitive Jungle to build a nest around the box.

The original hive box was already more than halfway covered in mud, but fortunately, the entrance at the front remained clear.

By now, Chen Chong had figured out the hive box’s structure and knew how to open it to get the honey inside.

Chen Chong had specifically instructed the Ferocious Poison Bee King not to cover the front entrance while its swarm built the nest.

It had nodded enthusiastically, but Chen Chong wasn’t sure if it had actually understood him.

Fortunately, it seemed to have gotten the message.

He just wasn’t sure if things would stay this way. After all, the nest’s construction was far from finished; compared to the size of their previous home, this was just the beginning.

If their subsequent construction work did end up blocking the entrance...

Getting the honey out would be a lot more difficult.

Even though the nest construction was proceeding at a feverish pace and the structure was gradually expanding, the queen, along with most of the Fierce Poisonous Bees, still resided inside the original hive box.

After observing for a while, Chen Chong discovered why the Fierce Poisonous Bees’ nest was impervious to the rain. When they brought back mud, they would mix it with their saliva—or perhaps a special secretion—to bind it together.

In less than a minute, the mud would become incredibly hard, to the point that it was difficult to crush even by squeezing it with all one’s might.

Furthermore, the nest was constructed with a slight curve, like the eaves of a roof, allowing rainwater to slide right off instead of flowing directly inside.

The Fierce Poisonous Bees might not like the rain, but that didn’t mean they were afraid of it.

Even with the current downpour, they continued to fly back and forth from the jungle to build their nest, though their spirits seemed quite low...

...

"Brother Chong, are we not going out today?" Xu Jun asked, his voice muffled as he stuffed a large piece of sweet pumpkin into his mouth at the dinner table.

Compared to Xu Jun’s crude eating habits, Chen Chong’s were far more elegant.

He swallowed the braised meat in his mouth, wiped his lips, and only then spoke slowly.

"We’re not going out. We’ve caught enough livestock for now. Even if we wanted to catch more, they’re all hiding in their lairs and won’t come out. Let’s just observe the rainy season for now. We can use the time to restock our home supplies and check on the gymnasium..."

’We’ve been running around outside so much lately that I’ve kind of neglected things here at the school.’

’The fishpond has been upgraded and expanded, so it urgently needs more fish.’

’With the new pigsty, we can raise another batch of livestock.’

’And the crops on the farmland... while they don’t need much attention, I should still turn the soil and rearrange the plants based on their size to give them proper spacing. Otherwise, they’ll get too crowded and it will affect the yield.’

’Then there’s the gymnasium...’

’Since forming the team, I’ve only been there twice. I left the rest for Jia Wen and Zhong Fang to manage. I haven’t established many of the specific details and rules, nor have I really checked the place out myself.’

’It’s a good chance to use these next couple of days to check on it. It’ll be a rare chance to relax, too. After all...’

’...after this, we’ll be dealing with Extraordinary Creatures.’

’The Bloodthirsty Vine King, the Stone Claw Eagle, and a S-Class Rock Armor Eagle that could show up at any moment.’

’The danger of fighting them will be on a whole different level compared to the Unihorn Catfish and the Blood-tooth Python.’

’So I need to rest up a bit beforehand, let my frayed nerves settle. That’s the only way I’ll be at my best when facing them...’

"Sir, I’ll go do the dishes."

Jia Wen gathered the dishes, Qi Zhen cleared the table, and Wang Biao grabbed a sickle and a bucket to go cut grass in the pasture for the livestock.

As for the Tiger Striped Dog and the Rock Armor Eagle, one was still on the floor gnawing on a bone from the Terror Wolf King, while the other had long since bolted down its meat and was now out on the balcony, staring at the rain as if curious about the change in weather.

Chen Chong and Xu Jun didn’t stay idle either. They made a trip to the cellar and moved more than half of their supplies into the ice cellar.

This mostly consisted of semi-processed foods like instant noodles, drinks, bread, and seasonings, as well as the various fruits and vegetables they had previously harvested from their farm.

They also skinned and gutted the two leopards, throwing the carcasses into the ice cellar as well.

After all, besides semi-processed foods like instant noodles, their food stores consisted only of smoked and cured meats. It was good to have some fresh meat on hand...

Once they had finished, the two of them collapsed back onto the sofa.

Xu Jun brought up yesterday’s evaluation. It hadn’t been anything special—just a B- Level Rating, which awarded them a B-Level weapon and a C-Class flowerpot.
