Chapter 344: Chapter 194: 5 Cards! Pigsty Card! The Rainy Season Arrives in Full
Back in his own room, ever since he’d upgraded the fish pond to an Extraordinary Fish Pond, the space had become incredibly cramped.
The fish pond took up nearly two-thirds of the entire room. Chen Chong was sometimes afraid that if he got out of bed in the dark, he might misstep and roll right into it.
Although Xu Jun often obtained Vacant Land Cards, they were always low-level ones, so the increase in area wasn’t very significant. All those Cards had been used to expand the living room and the kitchen balcony.
What’s more, he had obtained very few Vacant Land Cards in the past few days; nearly everything he got his hands on were Resource Cards.
They hadn’t been able to expand their home’s area in a long time.
The arrival of these two Cards was a huge relief, addressing this very need.
[Card Type: Building Card · Vacant Land Card]
[Rating: B-Level]
[Description: Use to expand an area by 150 square meters.]
The Vacant Land Card’s description was incredibly brief.
Chen Chong was very satisfied with the expansion area of a B-Level Card.
There wasn’t much to say about the other C-Class Vacant Land Card. Aside from only expanding the area by 50 square meters, it was identical to the B-Level Vacant Land Card.
After some thought, Chen Chong decided to use the B-Level Vacant Land Card on the bathroom and the C-Class Vacant Land Card on his own room.
The bathroom, being the place where they raised live animals like wild goats, deer, and wild rabbits, was a top priority.
If different types of livestock were kept too close together, it would significantly impact their mental health and, in turn, hinder their growth and development.
Besides, as time went on, they would be raising more and more animals, so naturally, the bigger the area, the better.
’Fifty square meters should be enough for my own room. As long as it puts some distance between me and the fish pond so I don’t fall in...’
Chen Chong used the C-Class Vacant Land Card right then and there.
He breathed a sigh of relief as he watched his room expand again, finally putting some distance between his bed and the fish pond.
He then put on his shoes, left his room, and went to the bathroom to use the B-Level Vacant Land Card.
The various livestock were sleeping, but they were all jolted awake as the space around them shuddered.
With an additional one hundred and fifty square meters, the bathroom’s space expanded dramatically. The previous cramped conditions were gone, and it now seemed almost spacious—enough for someone to walk around freely while feeding the animals.
Chen Chong didn’t rush back to his room. Instead, he looked at the three Cards he had left.
’I remember there’s a pigsty card, right?’
[Card Type: Building Card · Pigsty Card]
[Rating: B-Level]
[Description: Use to build a 50-square-meter pigsty. Animals raised inside will receive a +100% bonus to their daily growth speed.]
Chen Chong was a little surprised by this Card’s appearance. He hadn’t expected this kind of building to exist.
’Specifically for raising pigs?’
’Does that mean there might be sheep pens? Deer pens? Cattle pens?’
’But no matter what kind of pen it is, as long as it’s a structure for raising animals, it’ll work.’
’Who says a pigsty can only be used for pigs?’
’As long as it can hold them, I can raise anything in it!’
An area of 50 square meters could fit at least twenty wild goats.
For Chen Chong, who was in desperate need of Building Cards for raising animals, this was a godsend.
As the Card disappeared, a structure materialized out of thin air inside the bathroom.
Unlike the wooden material of the beast cages and fences.
The pigsty was built from sand and stone. The ground inside was a bit rough and covered with gravel, surrounded by walls at least 1.5 meters high.
Despite being made of sand and stone, it was incredibly sturdy, with a texture comparable to concrete.
Even a wild boar would have trouble climbing over or breaking through it.
Chen Chong was very satisfied with the pigsty.
He hadn’t caught any live wild boars yet, but he could at least use this structure to raise other livestock for now. When he did catch a boar, he’d figure out how to move the other animals out.
’Now I can go to the stadium tomorrow and bring back some more of the livestock we’re temporarily keeping there...’
...
Back in his room, Chen Chong looked at the last two Cards.
[Card Type: Recruitment Card · Falcon]
[Rating: C-Class]
[Description: Use to recruit a Falcon with extensive hunting experience.]
[Evaluation: A Falcon with excellent hunting skills. It is highly effective at catching small prey but struggles with medium-sized prey and is helpless against large prey.]
[Note: The recruited creature will not harm its master, but if its Loyalty drops below 20, it may flee.]
...
[Card Type: Resource Card · Medium-sized Trapping Net]
[Rating: C-Class]
[Description: A tough, 5-square-meter trapping net capable of capturing medium-sized prey.]
There wasn’t much to say about these two Cards; both were C-Class Cards.
One was a Recruitment Card, the other a Resource Card.
The Falcon Card depicted a sharp-eyed Falcon with black feathers. Its talons, curved like hooks, dangled in the air, looking as if they would clamp down on prey like a vise, leaving no chance of escape.
Chen Chong didn’t doubt the Falcon’s hunting ability for a second, but frankly, the Card wasn’t very useful to him.
For one, this Falcon wasn’t a large species, but a small one. That’s why it could only catch small prey like wild rabbits, foxes, and some pheasants or wild ducks.
Catching medium-sized prey was practically impossible, as it simply couldn’t lift them.
As for large prey, that was completely out of the question.
Chen Chong wasn’t in urgent need of small prey at the moment.
Wild rabbits were known to breed prolifically; even if he stopped catching new ones, the ones they already had were more than enough.
The same went for pheasants and wild ducks.
What he needed now were medium and large-sized prey, something a Falcon of this caliber couldn’t provide.
It would be more efficient for him to hunt them himself than to send the Falcon.
Besides, he had a Rock Armor Eagle.
Once the Rock Armor Eagle was fully grown, it could hunt not just medium or large prey, but even a couple of Extraordinary Creatures.
Chen Chong had no immediate need for another aerial combat pet.
So he put the Falcon Card away, intending to add it to the team warehouse as a reward that members could redeem with points.
Chen Chong didn’t use every Recruitment Card he came across.
After all, recruiting a new creature meant another mouth to feed.
While he wasn’t exactly short on food at the moment, raising them still took a lot of effort.
He wouldn’t hesitate to recruit any useful people.
For example, laborers and handmaidens could care for the wounded and assist with treatment in the medical room.
But if it was an animal, it had to be able to help him in the wild.
He currently had the Tiger Striped Dog, Rock Armor Eagle, Assassin Insect, and Lion-headed Goose, which pretty much covered land, air, and nocturnal situations.
The only thing he lacked was an aquatic creature.
’If I get a Recruitment Card for one in the future, I can just use it right away...’
As for the other Resource Card—the medium-sized trapping net—Chen Chong put that away as well, planning to take it to the stadium.
Again, Chen Chong had no use for this Card at the moment.
An item like a trapping net wasn’t like the snares for wild rabbits and pheasants, or the fish and bird traps that you could simply set and check for a catch the next day.
This kind of net had to be laid on the ground, camouflaged with leaves, and baited with things like berries. Then you had to hide and wait for prey to walk over it before pulling together to trap it.
Chen Chong just didn’t have the energy to hunt prey that way.
Besides, it could only catch medium-sized prey. For animals like wild goats and deer, it was far more efficient to actively hunt them down than to wait foolishly for them to walk into a trap.
It was better suited for the less powerful members of his team who couldn’t capture prey by force.
Chen Chong checked his intelligence reports again...
[D-Class Intelligence: Tomorrow, 300 meters from the riverbank in the direction of the back gate, an Anaconda will emerge from its lair.]
[D-Class Intelligence: Tomorrow, a D-Class Card will appear within 100 meters of the mud pit in the thicket.]
[C-Class Intelligence: Tomorrow, a five-person team will venture out to forage in the downpour, but they will suffer an accident resulting in casualties.]
There was no particularly special intelligence.
He could give these two pieces of intelligence to Zhong Fang to sell.
As for the third piece of intelligence...
’A five-person team... It’s probably not one of my own hunting parties, since our hunting teams have a minimum of ten members.’
’So this is the rainy season...’
Not only does it make finding resources harder, but the slick, wet jungle environment is also far more dangerous.
Chen Chong wanted to help the team, but unfortunately, he had no idea who they were.
Nor could he stop everyone from going out to look for food.
Even with the downpour and the greatly increased risk, hunger would still drive many people in the school to venture outside...
Chen Chong didn’t go to sleep right away. Instead, he looked out the window.
It was pitch-black outside, but the sound of the rain, like popping firecrackers, told him...
The rainy season had well and truly arrived.
