Chapter 234: Chapter 148: My Rules Are the Rules! Treating the Early-Stage Parasites! The Sulking Lion-headed Goose

He even speculated that this suppression might be able to cut off the Bloodthirsty Vine King’s Perception of these Parasites.

Otherwise, after he’d spent most of last night studying it, an Extraordinary Creature with such monstrous intelligence would never have been caught so unprepared today.

"Is everything all right?" Chen Chong asked.

The five quickly answered, "We’re fine, Brother Chong. Everything’s good, and they even bring us food on schedule."

One of them looked at the dozens of people behind Chen Chong and asked curiously, "Brother Chong, are these people... like us?"

Chen Chong nodded.

The Parasites who had followed him were stunned by this.

At first, they had assumed the five were Chen Chong’s subordinates. But now, hearing this conversation, they were shocked to realize they were also Parasites!

And looking at them, they showed no fear at all. On the contrary, they seemed completely at ease.

’Could what Chen Chong said be true?’

’Is he really here to help us remove the Bloodthirsty Vine, not just to exterminate us?’

’But then again, it made sense. If he really wanted to make a move, with the terrifying power he just displayed, why go through all this trouble?’

Once they pieced everything together, the crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief, their gazes toward Chen Chong now filled with deep gratitude and trust.

’As a Transcendent, he could have just killed them, a group of ordinary people, to solve the problem. Yet he was still trying to find a way to help, to remove the Bloodthirsty Vine from their bodies.’

The forty-plus people were deeply moved and made a silent vow: if they truly survived this, they would join his team.

They would do it for no other reason than for a leader like Chen Chong. They trusted him unconditionally...

Just then, a long, slender black figure emerged from behind a bookshelf.

An indignant "HONK" shattered the hall’s tranquility.

It was none other than the Lion-headed Goose.

Normally, upon seeing Chen Chong, it would have spread its wings and dashed over, nuzzling its head against its master affectionately.

Today, however, while it still approached Chen Chong, its face was etched with an almost human-like displeasure.

Its neck was taut, its feathers slightly ruffled—a clear sign that it was sulking. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Seeing this, Chen Chong crouched down and gently stroked the top of its head.

"I only asked you to stay here for a few days to help suppress the Bloodthirsty Vines. Is there really a need to be this unhappy?"

HONK! HONK HONK!

The Lion-headed Goose honked even louder, its voice filled with accusation, as if to say it would much rather be patrolling back home than standing guard here.

It was as if it feared the house would be raided the moment it let its guard down.

Chen Chong couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

"All right, you’ll only be here for a few days. Besides the Blood Eye Blade, you’re the only one who can suppress the Bloodthirsty Vines. I can’t be the one to stand guard here while you go out and do the work, can I?"

The Lion-headed Goose’s eyes darted about, as if it had actually understood Chen Chong’s words and was contemplating them.

HOOONK—

After a long moment, it let out another honk.

It seemed to have reluctantly accepted the arrangement, but the displeasure in its tone hadn’t faded in the slightest.

Chen Chong shook his head helplessly.

He reached into his backpack and pulled out a round object.

It was the Vine Core, formed from the fusion of the fifty-odd Parasites from before.

The Lion-headed Goose froze for a second upon seeing the object. Then, its eyes lit up, and it immediately spread its wings, flapping as it scurried closer.

It craned its neck high, letting out excited honks.

Clearly, it was extremely fond of the Vine Core.

It rubbed its head against Chen Chong’s pant leg again and again. Not a trace of its earlier resentment remained; there was only affection...

Chen Chong laughed in exasperation at its greedy display.

"You little glutton. You won’t work unless you get a treat, is that it?"

He placed the Vine Core in front of the Lion-headed Goose.

"But I was planning to give this to you anyway. If you can use it to evolve again, I’ll find you an even bigger one next time."

Watching the Lion-headed Goose eagerly peck up the Vine Core, Chen Chong’s thoughts began to drift.

Now that the Blood-tooth Python and the campus Parasites had all been dealt with, it was time to find that monstrously intelligent Bloodthirsty Vine King.

’That thing has caused me so much trouble. It’s about time I returned the favor...’
