Chapter 233: Chapter 148: My Rules Are the Rules! Treating Early-Stage Parasites! The Sulking Lion-headed Goose
A palpable killing intent radiated from Chen Chong, and everyone present shuddered in unison.
No one would doubt Chen Chong’s words.
The people who had been accusing him were now stunned into silence, each burying their head lower than the last. They didn’t dare meet Chen Chong’s gaze or utter another word.
After a long silence, Chen Chong’s gaze swept across the crowd.
"Think carefully before you decide to join. My team isn’t a playground you can come and go from as you please."
"This offer is permanent, with no time limit!"
"If you want to join, line up over here now. Zhong Fang will handle registration. If you don’t, you can leave...."
Chen Chong handed the megaphone to Zhong Fang, who nodded solemnly.
The next second, Chen Chong leaped off the high platform.
Xu Jun, Wang Biao, and Qi Zhen followed closely behind.
The Tiger Striped Dog and the Blade-Limbed Dark Insect also stayed by their master’s side.
Chen Chong was only responsible for purging the Bloodthirsty Vines and Parasites and announcing his recruitment plan.
As for the subsequent registration and cleanup, he left it all for Zhong Fang and the others to handle.
But now, Chen Chong had more important things to do...
Namely, deal with the early-stage Parasites!
Although the advanced Parasites had all been eliminated, thirty to forty early-stage Parasites in the square were still waiting to be dealt with.
The Blood Eye Blade was suppressing the undeveloped Bloodthirsty Vines inside them, but he couldn’t keep relying on it. After all, the blade consumed his Spiritual Power.
Once its suppressive effect was lost, he feared the Bloodthirsty Vine King, far away in some unknown region, would regain control of them.
He had to find a way to get the Bloodthirsty Vines out of their bodies quickly, or the consequences would be dire.
Enough people had died today. Chen Chong didn’t want the school’s already small population to shrink even further...
Arriving at the Central Square, Chen Chong pulled the Blood Eye Blade from the ground.
He did not withdraw its suppressive power, which continued to steadily envelop the area.
The aura it emitted was calibrated to the precise level needed to suppress the Bloodthirsty Vines within the early-stage Parasites.
"Come with me."
The student targeted by Chen Chong’s gaze tensed instantly. He glanced around, his voice quivering.
"Go... where to?"
"You’ve been infected by a Bloodthirsty Vine. Where do you think?"
"Don’t kill me, don’t kill me!"
The young man suddenly broke down. The horrific fate of the other Parasites—both tragic and disgusting—flashed through his mind.
A torrent of fear engulfed him, and he subconsciously assumed Chen Chong was going to execute him.
His legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground, urine trickling down his pant leg.
Chen Chong looked on with exasperation. "If I wanted to kill you, I would have dealt with you all when I was clearing out the other Parasites. I kept you alive because I’m going to help you get rid of the Bloodthirsty Vines inside you."
He glanced at the pale faces in the crowd around him.
"You’re only in the early stages of infection. The Bloodthirsty Vine hasn’t completely taken over your bodies yet. You still have a chance to live."
"But that’s only if you come with me. If you refuse, you won’t even live long enough to be fully taken over. I will eliminate a potential threat like you on the spot. Understand?"
The young man on the ground was scared witless. With his vacant stare, he probably hadn’t heard a single word.
But the other conscious, early-stage Parasites—though trembling and gripped by fear—mostly understood the crucial part of his message.
’This man in front of them was going to save them.’
Without any further prompting from Chen Chong, the early-stage Parasites scattered throughout the crowd forced themselves to their feet and began to gather around him.
Their eyes, as they looked at Chen Chong, held both fear and a desperate hope for survival.
No one wanted to become like those monsters from before, covered in vines.
Of the nearly forty early-stage Parasites present, only twenty-odd could move on their own. The rest were either frozen in fear or had collapsed unconscious.
"Some of you, come help carry them."
Dozens of team members stepped forward, hoisting up those who couldn’t move and following Chen Chong out of the Central Square.
As he was leaving, Chen Chong vaguely heard Zhong Fang pick up the megaphone and say something.
"I’ll just say this once. Anyone who joins with ulterior motives, thinking they can slack off and disobey orders—Brother Chong won’t even have to lift a finger. My boys and I don’t mess around...."
As he walked further away, the rest of the words were drowned out by the wind.
Chen Chong didn’t care what Zhong Fang was saying, but a faint smile touched his lips nonetheless.
’That kid, Zhong Fang... After calling me ’Brother Chen Chong’ for so long, he’s finally willing to switch to ’Brother Chong.’ Now that’s a rare sight...’
...
Soon, the group arrived before a building.
It was neither a classroom building nor faculty housing, nor was it the gymnasium. It was the school’s long-abandoned library.
A few years ago, the school administration had emptied the library of its books on the pretext of renovations and sealed it off. But the work never began, and over time, it became a forgotten corner of the campus.
It was precisely because of this seclusion that Chen Chong had chosen it as a temporary base for dealing with the early-stage Parasites.
He pushed open the door. Inside, the bookshelves were still neatly arranged, but they were all empty.
A thick layer of dust covered the hardwood floors, but they were otherwise undamaged.
In the center of the room sat two men and three women. Upon seeing Chen Chong, all five immediately rose to their feet and approached him respectfully.
They were not team members, but early-stage Parasites just like the group behind him.
The only reason they were here was that Chen Chong had run into them by chance the previous night and had promptly repurposed them as temporary test subjects.
It was through them that Chen Chong had confirmed the Blood Eye Blade’s suppressive effect could inhibit the Bloodthirsty Vines within early-stage Parasites, preventing them from further invading their hosts, destroying their bodies, or draining their energy.
