White Dragon Lord
Chapter 366: Love's Magic Spins in Circles
"The demon reinforcements that supported the front lines three months ago haven't completely withdrawn. They split off a portion of their forces to hide in the wilderness, and now they are approaching Incineration City. Return to your respective stations immediately; the Allied Coalition Forces are on their way!"
Engru Ghostwolf's projection vanished. The faces of the two dragons and two humans instantly darkened as they looked down at the army currently weathering the assault of Incineration City's demons. Around the battlefield, even more of Incineration City's demons were rushing in.
"Your Excellency Alan, I have a way to temporarily deal with these frenzied demons, but I need your cooperation."
"Please, speak."
"In a moment, I will create a massive circular corridor. Combined with the Fog spell, we can make these demons lose their sense of direction..."
After a brief, rapid discussion, the two dragons and two humans decided the method was worth a try. The White Dragon Lord began rapidly chanting a spell.
Amos's Frost Domain!
Terrifying cold energy spread in all directions from the White Dragon Lord's body. It blanketed an area of a thousand meters like smoke and mist. The moisture in the air condensed into frost, falling like snow.
Maintaining the Frost Domain, the White Dragon Lord descended toward the demon army on the ground. He instantly drew the demons' attention, buying the human army in the rear a precious chance to catch their breath.
The frenzied demon army plunged into the biting cold. The freezing temperatures immediately sapped the lives of the Low-Tier Demons. Mid-Tier Demons would freeze to death if they lingered in the chill for too long. While High-Tier Demons were somewhat affected, the cold wasn't lethal to them. Master-Tier Demons could practically ignore the chill entirely, sprinting through the frigid air to charge at the White Dragon Lord.Watching the horde of demons rushing toward him, the White Dragon Lord felt a jolt of shock. After years of refinement and his own personal growth, the power of Amos's Frost Domain had increased significantly.
Back on the material plane, when the White Dragon Lord tested the Frost Domain's power, high-tier professionals could barely preserve their lives within its range, and even master-tier powerhouses were somewhat affected.
But now, the demon army had completely overturned his test results. Without a doubt, the blood moon and the Berserk Spell had granted the demons a massive boost.
A slender golden tail descended from the sky, smashing the leading demons into a pulp of mangled flesh. Foul-smelling demonic blood seeped into the cracked ice. The Gold Dragon landed, shielding the White Dragon Lord and slaughtering any demons that charged into reach.
The White Dragon Lord maintained the Frost Domain. The frenzied demons charged forward in endless waves, like moths diving fearlessly into an open flame, only to freeze stiff and collapse at the domain's edge. However, his main goal was not to butcher the demon army, but to create a massive expanse of ice.
The low temperatures brought by the Frost Domain rapidly froze the moisture. Ice spread across the ground in all directions, the layer growing thicker and thicker.
A minute passed. The ice had accumulated until the ground below was no longer visible. The White Dragon Lord deactivated the Frost Domain.
"Leopold! Buy me a little more time!"
Without waiting for the Gold Dragon to respond, the White Dragon Lord rapidly chanted a spell. It was the incantation to animate ice.
The Frost Domain vanished, and the biting cold dissipated. The frenzied demon army stepped onto the Frozen Land, howling like wild beasts as they surged toward the Gold Dragon.
The dense throng of demons flooded in like a tide. Their crimson eyes resembled a swarm of bats in the dark, enough to make anyone's scalp tingle.
Using a Dragon Breath would melt the ice the White Dragon Lord had just created. The Gold Dragon had no choice but to unleash wave after wave of energy blasts, plowing paths of blood and shredded flesh through the demon army. Yet the frenzied demons continued to push forward.
Even with its tough scales, the Gold Dragon did not dare to forcibly tank such a massive demon army. Many ants can bite an elephant to death, let alone when the enemies were demons ten thousand times stronger than mere ants.
But things rarely go as planned. After paying a heavy toll in casualties, the tide of demons finally surged to just a short distance from the Gold Dragon.
A Master-Tier Demon leapt from the horde. Just as it was about to pounce onto the Gold Dragon, a silver bolt of lightning crashed down from the sky. The lightning vanished in the blink of an eye, and the leaping demon plummeted to the earth, its body already reduced to a smoking lump of char.
Mage Alan had struck. Sular Grey Dove also joined the fray. Lightning illuminated the night sky, while a flock of doves obscured the moonlight.
Under the cover of his three teammates, the White Dragon Lord's magic was finally complete. A peculiar ripple of energy plunged into the ice beneath his feet. The ice came alive as if it possessed a mind of its own. The feet of the demons sprinting across the surface sank into the now fluid-like ice. They tripped and fell, quickly swallowed by the freezing depths.
The demons swallowed by the ice resembled tiny bugs struggling in sticky sap, their voices gradually fading away. But the demon army was endless. Relying solely on temporarily created ice was completely insufficient to wipe them all out.
"Your Excellency Alan!"
Alan stopped attacking the demons and rapidly chanted an incantation.
Empowered Fog!
One Empowered Fog spell after another blanketed the land, swallowing the demon army whole. At the same time, the demons realized the ice beneath their feet was rapidly receding, eventually exposing the dirt below.
The White Dragon Lord controlled the animated ice to form two concentric ring walls. Both walls were ten thousand meters in diameter, leaving a gap of several hundred meters between them. The demons were trapped inside this circular corridor.
Some demons frantically hammered at the animated ice walls in front of them, only to discover the walls had a sticky quality that dissolved their massive impacts. Even when shattered by magic, the ice instantly fused back together.
Because the two circular walls possessed such a colossal diameter, combined with the vision-restricting fog, the area of the wall each demon could actually see was limited. The curvature of the walls was barely noticeable, creating an optical illusion. Believing they were still on open plains, they began running forward. More and more demons joined the stampede.
As the White Dragon Lord repaired the damaged walls, he observed the demons in the fog. Seeing more and more of them sprinting around the track, forming a massive continuous circle like a line of ants following each other head-to-tail in an inescapable loop, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, as long as the fog didn't dissipate, the demons would be stuck in an infinite loop of following the comrade in front of them, much like a cat chasing its own tail in endless circles.
In truth, the ice walls were only eight meters high. The demons could have easily leapt over them. But the fog sealed off their line of sight, preventing them from noticing the walls' height.
While the demons fell into their bizarre running loop, Riverrun's army retreated at full speed under the magical buffs of the Mage Corps. Only a few High-Tier Legends remained behind, as the White Dragon Lord needed to patch up any walls damaged by the demons.
Half an hour later, swept up in the momentum of its peers, the final wall-breaking demon also fell into the endless running loop. The White Dragon Lord exhaled deeply.
"Phew, it's done. Let's retreat as well."
Chatting and laughing, the two dragons and two humans chased after the main army.
By now, the blood moon had fully crested the horizon, casting an uncomfortable energy over the land. The two dragons and two humans enveloped themselves in Magic Shields, finally feeling a bit better.
Chatting as they flew, the White Dragon Lord and Mage Alan naturally drifted onto the topic of spatial magic. The White Dragon Lord remembered Merlin Heavenly Principle's warning against teleporting.
"Your Excellency Alan, before coming to the Blood War Battlefield, an elder warned us not to carelessly use Teleportation magic in the Abyss. Do you know why?"
"Hmm... The councilors of the Supreme Council also warned me against careless teleportation in the Abyss, but she didn't tell me the reason either. I suppose it's not something our level is meant to meddle with."
The Gold Dragon, who had been eavesdropping, showed a look of disappointment. It was very curious about the reason as well.
"I know the reason."
Sular Grey Dove's words immediately drew everyone's attention.
"I once read related records in Lord Lagemodi's notes. When The Gods sealed the Abyss, they simultaneously imprisoned an entity that gave even them a headache. That detail has stayed fresh in my memory."
Sular Grey Dove recalled the contents of the notes, a look of reverence appearing on his face.
"According to Lord Lagemodi's notes, that existence that troubled even The Gods was a certain unique Abomination. It could neither be sealed nor killed. The Gods had no choice but to imprison it along with the Abyss, but even the Abyss, which devours myriad worlds, couldn't accommodate its existence. It..."
Just as everyone was most engrossed in the story, two silent streaks of blade light slashed toward the necks of the White Dragon Lord and Mage Alan.
In a flash, a fatal sense of crisis seized his heart. Before the White Dragon Lord could even react, the enchantment within Amos's Horn Ring (Gold) upon his head triggered.
Triggered Flash!
In the split second before the blade light struck his neck, the White Dragon Lord vanished, reappearing a hundred meters away.
From a hundred meters away, the White Dragon Lord stared in shock at his previous spot. Two Eight-Armed Snake Demons had suddenly appeared where he and Mage Alan had just been. The two demons were pulling back their missed scimitars, pivoting to slash at the Gold Dragon and Sular beside them.
However, attacking the White Dragon Lord and Alan had already exposed the Eight-Armed Snake Demons. Both Sular and the Gold Dragon reacted. Sular instantly transformed into a flock of gray doves, scattering in all directions. The Gold Dragon swung its tail, smashing it toward an Eight-Armed Snake Demon in a crude, desperate strategy of trading blows.
Yet the Gold Dragon's desperate method worked. The Gold Dragon was thirty meters long and utterly massive; as long as the blade didn't hit a vital spot, it wouldn't be fatal. The Eight-Armed Snake Demon, on the other hand, was only eight meters tall, tail included, and couldn't endure a direct tail smash from the Gold Dragon. Using Greater Teleportation, the Eight-Armed Snake Demon vanished, conveniently dodging the ice spear shot by the White Dragon Lord in the process.
All of this happened in a flash.
The two Eight-Armed Snake Demons teleported directly in front of the two dragons and two humans, blocking their path. They held their scimitars at the ready, watching cautiously.
The gray doves gathered back together, re-forming Sular's body. A Dragon Breath brewed in the Gold Dragon's mouth. Mage Alan rubbed the spherical gemstone atop his staff. The White Dragon Lord stared coldly at the two sudden enemies.
If not for the Triggered Flash of Amos's Horn Ring (Gold), the Eight-Armed Snake Demons' ambush would likely have succeeded.
The two dragons and two humans exchanged glances. Keeping their guard up, they grouped closer together. Right now, the priority wasn't fighting these two demons, but confirming whether there were any other enemies nearby.
Sure enough, the White Dragon Lord detected two familiar auras swiftly and stealthily approaching from the ground. They were the fire demon, Rabmodo Modi, and the demon lord of Vagro Fortress, Padhak.
Assassination and stealth were not their strong suits. Mage Alan also spotted the two demons. He spun around and launched a dimensional blade toward them, though the fire demon dodged it.
Seeing that they were exposed, the two demons abandoned their sneak attack and openly took to the sky.
"Gahahaha! Mage! I said I would return for my revenge, and now, I am back!"
The demon lord of Vagro Fortress, Padhak, harbored an incredibly deep grudge against Mage Alan. He couldn't wait to fly straight at him. The two exchanged spells, but Mage Alan clearly held the upper hand, making the demon scream in sheer rage.
The fire demon originally intended to fly at the White Dragon Lord but was intercepted by Sular Grey Dove. The two Eight-Armed Snake Demons also made their move. One of them teleported right beside the Gold Dragon, slashing a blade into its flank.
"Where are you looking?"
Before anyone realized, the other Eight-Armed Snake Demon had appeared directly beneath the White Dragon Lord, thrusting its scimitar up at the dragon's belly.
"Hmph!"
The White Dragon Lord used Blink to instantly appear elsewhere. He spat a Dragon Breath at his previous location, but the Eight-Armed Snake Demon used Greater Teleportation once again to dodge the blast, staring down the White Dragon Lord from afar.
Looking at the scimitars glinting with cold light in the Eight-Armed Snake Demon's hands, the White Dragon Lord felt a heavy weight in his heart. The demons' Greater Teleportation was truly sickening to deal with.
Without a Dimensional Anchor, the demons could use Greater Teleportation to appear and vanish like ghosts. Even with the White Dragon Lord's magical expertise, he couldn't lock onto them. But at a time like this, the enemies certainly wouldn't give him the chance to chant and cast Dimensional Anchor.
Though he couldn't cast Dimensional Anchor, the White Dragon Lord had other ways to restrict the enemies' teleportation. Shards of ice materialized around him, spinning in an endless orbit.
High-Tier Magic—Ice Roar.
Ice Roar was only a piece of high-tier magic, so its attack power wasn't considered incredibly strong. However, it was perfect for stopping the demons from teleporting into close quarters. On the other battlefields, the Gold Dragon also flooded its surroundings with fire, while Sular Grey Dove transformed into a flock of doves so the demons couldn't locate his true body. As for Mage Alan, he was already a master of spatial magic himself. All sides of the battle had settled into a stalemate.
Seeing the endlessly revolving ice shards, the Eight-Armed Snake Demon facing the White Dragon Lord was in no rush to attack.
"You're the white dragon that forced Durio to her death?"
"So what?"
The White Dragon Lord scoffed at the Eight-Armed Snake Demon's interrogating tone.
"Do you want to avenge your comrade?"
"No, no, no!"
The Eight-Armed Snake Demon wagged a finger, a smirk curling its lips.
"Quite the opposite, actually. I have to thank you for helping me get rid of that bitch."
"I really don't appreciate your way of showing gratitude."
"Hahaha! I'm almost starting to feel bad about killing you, but alas, the ruler wants your head!"
The scimitars in the Eight-Armed Snake Demon's hands danced into a blur as it flew at the White Dragon Lord. Since it couldn't rely on the trickery of teleportation to kill its target, it opted for a direct assault.
Myriad Blade Slash!
The eight scimitars slashed out a streak of blade light. Eight streaks of light stacked on top of one another, merging into a single strike that hacked toward the White Dragon Lord.
The White Dragon Lord watched the blade light, keeping his guard firmly raised. Suddenly, the Eight-Armed Snake Demon pulled out a rather familiar cyan orb.
