Zhou Chengchen stood at the doorway and met Xi Siyan’s eyes from a distance. Though no one said anything, Zhou Chengchen immediately read the meaning in his gaze.

He was very busy right now, and was telling her to wait a bit.

Zhou Chengchen nodded and sat down on the guest sofa by the door.

She ended up sitting there for over half an hour, and then suddenly heard an angry roar from over there: "Fuck!"

The one who shouted was Liu Xiaoyu, and Zhou Chengchen’s heart instantly clenched.

Liu Xiaoyu was an honest kid; he wasn’t the type to curse casually. Looking over at the situation now, Xi Siyan’s brows were tightly knitted, and the person sitting at the computer had a grave expression as well.

That honest kid Liu Xiaoyu even looked like he wanted to kill someone.

Zhou Chengchen really wanted to go over and ask if something had happened, but she also knew this wasn’t the time to ask. After waiting a bit longer, she saw Xi Siyan let out a deep sigh and wave his hand. "Go get some rest."

Liu Xiaoyu gave the chair beside him a vicious kick and strode toward the door in a few steps. Only when he got closer did Zhou Chengchen notice that his eyes were actually red.

He stopped in front of Zhou Chengchen and moved his lips, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end said nothing, leaving with a completely defeated look.

Very soon, the person who’d been sitting at the computer stood up and left as well. When he saw Zhou Chengchen, he only nodded in greeting and didn’t say much.

Only Xi Siyan and Zhou Chengchen were left in the office.

Only then did Zhou Chengchen walk over. "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"

Xi Siyan’s hand hanging at his side was clenched into a tight fist, but his face carried a faint smile. "The company system ran into a bit of a problem."

"The system?"

"Mm. It’s not a big deal. Don’t worry, we can fix it."

Xi Siyan’s expression remained as calm as ever, just like he always appeared.

Zhou Chengchen pressed her lips together and didn’t ask further.

"Why did you come?"

"I called you, but your phone was off, so I came over to check on you."

"Come on, let’s go home."

Xi Siyan led Zhou Chengchen out. The people outside all turned to look at them in unison; the expressions on everyone’s faces were a bit off, but no one spoke. Xi Siyan waved at them. "Let’s stop here for today. Thanks for your hard work."

No one responded. Zhou Chengchen noticed that Liu Xiaoyu, sitting off to the side, had his head drooped, as if he wished he could bury it in the ground.

The two of them returned to the apartment. Xi Siyan went to the bathroom to shower. Watching his back as he went in, the face that had been relatively calm on Zhou Chengchen suddenly drew into a frown.

Hearing the sound of running water inside, she took out her phone, walked onto the balcony, and directly dialed Liu Xiaoyu’s number.

Xi Siyan was very composed; at first glance it really did look like it was just a minor issue.

But...

As Zhou Chengchen made the call, she kept her eyes fixed on the bathroom door.

Si Yan, I know you better than you think.

The call rang several times before someone finally picked up. "Hello?"

The voice was hoarse, with a hint of tears in it, and Zhou Chengchen’s heart sank straight to the bottom.

The night was cold as water. Curled in Xi Siyan’s arms, Zhou Chengchen lay with her eyes peacefully closed. She wasn’t asleep; she knew Xi Siyan wasn’t asleep either.

"We were betrayed."

That was what Liu Xiaoyu had said on the phone.

She didn’t really understand just how serious the situation was, but she could feel the slump that had fallen over the entire company.

Xi Siyan had been very busy lately, all for that so-called major project. And yet they’d been betrayed.
