Chapter 46: Chapter 46: She Doesn’t Want the Scum Ex-Husband 6

’Should I call him "esteemed son-in-law" or "the Ancestor"?’

This question only troubled the Phoenix King for a few moments before Feng Cangwu introduced himself.

"Phoenix King, Queen Phoenix, I am Feng Cangwu, the one who formed a Contract with Song. From now on, you may simply call me Cangwu."

The troubled Phoenix King immediately understood. ’In front of others, he’s the Ancestor.’

’But in front of me, he’s my son-in-law.’

The Phoenix King hadn’t quite adjusted to this new dynamic yet, but he could certainly act the part!

’Putting on a calm façade? Who can’t do that?’

"Cang... Cangwu, ah... when you and Song formed your Contract, there was a strange phenomenon. I knew then that you two were bound. Coincidentally, Elder Xu’s family banquet is in two days. Huadan is with child, so Elder Xu is holding a special feast to announce it. You two should attend together. It’ll be a good opportunity for others to learn about your Contract with Song."

"Ji Huadan is pregnant?"

If the Phoenix King hadn’t mentioned her, Ji Xiaosong would have almost forgotten she existed.

She’d been so worn out this past month without a moment’s rest, focused only on completing her tasks, that she’d nearly forgotten all about her original self’s former husband and ’dear’ cousin.

Recalling her original self’s memories from her past life, Ji Huadan was no saint, either.

Her parents had died fighting the Demon Clan, and her father happened to be the Phoenix King’s younger brother. It was for this reason that she was afforded the treatment of a princess.

However, she leveraged her parents’ legacy to wreak havoc throughout the Phoenix Clan.

She didn’t dare to openly target or frame the Eldest Princess—the original owner of this body—but she was vicious and cruel toward everyone else.

In her past life, her husband had been an Orange Phoenix from a powerful family, and he had kept several mistresses on the side.

When she found out, she didn’t dare touch her husband’s family. Instead, she used every cruel method at her disposal on his mistresses, plucking their feathers and peeling their skin.

From then on, anyone who crossed her met a terrible fate.

"Yes, she became pregnant right after her wedding. It’s been exactly one month now," the Queen Phoenix added.

At this, Feng Cangwu casually pulled Ji Xiaosong into his arms, wrapping them around her.

He tilted his head slightly, feigning nonchalance. "What a coincidence. Song is pregnant as well. Barring any surprises, she should be due around the same time as... what’s-her-name."

This subtly smug display made Ji Xiaosong duck her head, unable to stifle a "PFFT" of laughter.

When the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix heard Feng Cangwu announce that Ji Xiaosong was also pregnant, their faces lit up with surprise and delight.

"Oh, this is wonderful! My daughter is pregnant too! This is truly a joyous occasion!"

The Queen Phoenix wished she could announce the news to everyone right then and there. Her daughter already possessed a noble bloodline; with the Ancestor’s Golden Phoenix lineage added to the mix, it was the perfect way to put that Ji Huadan in her place.

She’d long since grown tired of her niece. For the past month, the girl had been wandering into her palace whenever she pleased, hinting at every turn that the child in her belly was destined to have a high-grade bloodline.

’How ridiculous!’

’As if her and Xu Yang’s bloodline could ever surpass that of my daughter, the child of the Queen Phoenix herself!’

The Phoenix King smiled and nodded beside her. "Excellent, excellent. It seems our Phoenix Clan is growing. This is truly a blessing."

Then, as if remembering something, the Queen Phoenix said, "Song, dear, now that you’re pregnant, why don’t you move back into your old palace? It would be so much more convenient for us to look after you."

Ji Xiaosong was the only daughter she had in this life; she couldn’t bear the thought of her suffering out in the world.

Even though she knew who Feng Cangwu was and that he would never let her daughter want for anything, she couldn’t help but worry.

"Phoenix King, Queen Phoenix, please rest assured," Feng Cangwu said. "I brought Song back this time with the very intention of having her give birth within the clan. A Phoenix’s childhood lasts a thousand years. I’d be more at ease with more people to help look after our child."

’I’ve been without parents for a long time,’ he thought, ’but Ji Xiaosong’s parents are still young. It would be perfect to have them help raise the child.’

The smiles on the faces of the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix grew even wider upon hearing Feng Cangwu’s words.

The Phoenix King waved his hand grandly. "Then I’ll take you back to Xiaosong’s palace right away."

The group then proceeded in a grand procession toward Songyu Palace, Ji Xiaosong’s former residence.

From a distance, Songyu Palace’s grand gates of vermilion Parasol Wood looked solemn and majestic, its upturned eaves and intricate brackets forming an exquisite and unique design.

Stepping through the palace gates, the delicate scent of flowers wafted toward them. Pavilions and towers were arranged in a picturesque and orderly fashion, creating a scene of classic elegance.

The Queen Phoenix personally directed the servants, having them clean, redecorate, and bring in new furnishings, bustling about with great enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix King stood to the side with Feng Cangwu, discussing the many matters that would need to be handled after the child’s birth.

Once everything was settled, Feng Cangwu brought out the meeting gifts he had prepared.

"Phoenix King, Queen Phoenix, this is my first formal visit. From now on, we are family. I’ve prepared a few things that you might find useful."

With a grand wave of his hand, Songyu Palace was suddenly filled with all manner of heavenly materials and earthly treasures—far more than what Ji Xiaosong had seen last time.

Ji Xiaosong sighed and put a hand to her forehead. ’My husband in this life is certainly a thoughtful one!’

In contrast to Ji Xiaosong’s calm composure, the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix, who had weathered countless storms and seen innumerable treasures in their time, still turned pale at the sight of the room filled to the brim.

’My parents’ reaction isn’t much different from my own the first few times I witnessed Feng Cangwu’s generosity,’ Ji Xiaosong thought.

"Father, Mother, since Cangwu is giving these to you, you should just accept them. It’s a token of his sincerity."

The Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix laughed awkwardly. The Phoenix King cleared his throat and said, "This... we couldn’t possibly."

The Queen Phoenix gave a dry laugh. "Yes, Cangwu, dear, you’re being too polite."

Though they said they couldn’t possibly accept, both of their gazes couldn’t help but linger on the various treasures.

Ji Xiaosong smiled and said, "What’s there to be embarrassed about? We’re all family."

Seeing this, the Queen Phoenix no longer demurred. "Alright then, I’ll accept them for now."

With that, she swept all the heavenly materials and earthly treasures in the room into her personal storage space.

"That’s right," the Phoenix King quickly added, looking at Feng Cangwu. "In our family, the Queen Phoenix is in charge of safekeeping everything. It’s best to just give these things directly to her."

His own power and bloodline were no match for Feng Cangwu’s, but that didn’t stop him from plotting how to slowly turn his new son-in-law into a love-struck fool.

Besides, what he’d said was the truth.

"So that’s how it is," Feng Cangwu said, a look of realization on his face. "I’ve observed that Song is both strong-willed and high-spirited. I imagine that is inseparable from the loving relationship you, the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix, share."

He had never experienced much warmth from a family. Now that he finally had one, he was determined to become a part of it.

With Feng Cangwu being so tactful and humble, the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix found it much easier to relax around him.

「Two days later, the day of Xu Yang and Ji Huadan’s family banquet arrived.」

The family banquet was held in Xu Yang’s Parasol Tree Forest. Elders of high status and position all owned their own section of the forest, and their homes were typically palaces built within them.

Xu Yang stood at the palace gate, welcoming each arriving clan member.

Ji Huadan, being pregnant, had been settled in a rear hall to rest.

"The Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix have arrived!"

"The Eldest Princess and her husband have arrived!"

As the palace servant’s announcement rang out, everyone turned to look in unison.

’Her husband?’

’The Eldest Princess has a husband?’

’The Eldest Princess was only gone from Phoenix Splendor Hall for a month, and she’s already formed a Contract?’

’Who is he?’

’Huh...’

’And why does Elder Xu look so pale?’
