Chapter 236 -232: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 43

This time, Dai Weiyuan did not bring Dai Tiangang with him to the Marshal Mansion. Given how unpleasant the last visit had been, he brought several clan elders along instead.

Dai Tiangang’s temper was far too explosive; if Dai Lixing were to disagree with their decision, a fight would likely break out.

It was better to coax him for now.

Dai Weiyuan and his entourage stood at the entrance to the Marshal Mansion. His face was plastered with a sycophantic smile, but his eyes betrayed a flicker of imperceptible tension.

The clan elders beside him straightened their backs, attempting to project the family’s authority, yet they were just as apprehensive on the inside.

A white-haired elder in a splendid robe cleared his throat and murmured, “Dai Weiyuan, do you really think coming here will smooth things over with Li Xing? He’s not an easy man to deal with.”

Dai Weiyuan’s smile never faltered, but a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes as he replied in a low voice, “Don’t worry. As long as Ji Sui’an is here, we have an opening. No matter what, Li Xing is still of the Dai Family’s blood. Now that his son is so exceptionally talented, he won’t refuse to give us some face as long as we’re sincere enough.”

Another elder, this one slightly plump, frowned with worry in his tone. “But what we did before… what if he brings it up? What will we do?”

Dai Weiyuan scoffed. “That was so long ago. If he really wanted to hold it against us, he would have done something already. We’re here to talk about how the family can support the young master’s future, not to dredge up the past. It’s not like he can just throw us out, can he?”

Just then, a younger elder who had remained silent spoke up. “But the Marshal Mansion looks so heavily guarded. Isn’t it too risky for us to come unannounced like this?”

Dai Weiyuan shot him a glare. “What do you know! If we don’t seize this opportunity, what benefits will be left for the Dai Family once Ji Sui’an is fully grown? Even if Li Xing gives us the cold shoulder today, we have to make our position clear.”

The elders exchanged glances and nodded helplessly. Though they were still uneasy, they had no choice but to brace themselves and follow Dai Weiyuan’s lead.

After receiving the Dai Family’s arrival announcement, Butler 001 came out to greet them.

Dai Weiyuan quickly stepped forward, grasping 001’s mechanical arm, and said enthusiastically, “Ah, 001, be a dear and inform Li Xing that we’ve come with the family’s blessings to see him, his wife, and the young master.”

001 responded politely, asked them to wait a moment, and then turned to enter the mansion.

When Dai Lixing received the news, his brows furrowed slightly, a flicker of disgust in his eyes.

Seeing his reaction, Ji Xiaosong asked softly, “What is it, Li Xing? Who’s here?”

“Who else could it be?” he sneered. “My dear second uncle, with a few so-called clan elders in tow. They must have heard about Sui An and came to grovel.”

Dai Lixing let out a cold laugh. The Dai Family was always like this. He’d nearly lost his life when he’d threatened their interests in the past.

A chill went through Ji Xiaosong. She, of course, remembered the danger Dai Lixing had faced and felt not an ounce of goodwill toward Dai Weiyuan and his group.

“Then don’t see them. Just let them wait.”

“It’s fine. I want to see them. Let’s see what kind of excuse they can come up with.”

A moment later, 001 returned and invited them inside.

The moment Dai Weiyuan and his entourage stepped into the living room, they saw Dai Lixing on the sofa, with Ji Xiaosong seated beside him, holding Ji Sui’an.

Dai Weiyuan immediately strode forward, his face wreathed in smiles. “Ah, Li Xing! It’s been too long. You look more imposing than ever. And look at the young master! So remarkable at only a few months old. He’s truly the pride of the Dai Family!”

The other clan elders quickly chimed in with their own praises.

Dai Lixing watched them coldly, his response lukewarm. “Second Uncle. Elders. Why are you here today?”

Dai Weiyuan gave an awkward laugh. “Well, we heard the young master’s spiritual power is astonishing, so we came especially to see him. We also wanted to discuss with you how the family can help him grow and bring honor to our name.”

‘These people are truly shameless,’ Dai Lixing sneered internally. ‘They tried to have me killed, and now they want to use Sui An to mend things.’

Ji Xiaosong lowered her gaze, gently stroking Ji Sui’an’s swaddling clothes. Suddenly, she looked up, her bright eyes shimmering as she smiled. “You must be joking, Second Uncle. Wasn’t it just the other day that Brother Tiangang was here, saying the Marshal Mansion wasn’t worthy of associating with the Dai Clan Ancestral Hall? Why are you now trying to use Sui An as a poster child for the Dai Family?”

It didn’t matter if Dai Tiangang had actually come or said those exact words. What mattered was that he *had* come to the Marshal Mansion and said something similar before, and now Ji Xiaosong was calling them out on it.

The smile lines on Dai Weiyuan’s face froze. Just as he was about to speak, he saw Ji Xiaosong teasing her baby’s soft palm with a fingertip. “Then again, it’s not surprising. I hear the East Star Domain has been cracking down on illegal mining. Those eighteen energy stars of yours are probably facing some hefty fines, aren’t they, Second Uncle?”

“You!”

The white-bearded elder was about to lash out, but Dai Weiyuan grabbed his sleeve, holding him back.

“My lady, you misunderstand. The Dai Clan is of one breath, one branch…”

“One breath, one branch?”

Ji Xiaosong suddenly rose to her feet, holding her son. The hem of her skirt, embroidered with a Golden Canary, brushed against the sandalwood coffee table. “Last year, when Li Xing was ambushed on Wa Star, weren’t you elders all busy burning incense in the ancestral hall? The fragrance traveled so far, we could smell it all the way here at the mansion.”

She covered her mouth with a light laugh and pulled a handkerchief embroidered with twin lotuses from her sleeve. “Oh, look at my memory. While I was organizing the storerooms the other day, I came across a few boxes of Snow Top Cloud Mist tea that you sent, Second Uncle. It was from back when Li Xing’s spiritual power was running wild. I hear it has a miraculous calming effect?”

The elders’ faces turned deathly pale. The memory of the neurotoxin they had mixed into that batch of tea was shattered by her seemingly innocent words.

They knew better than anyone why Dai Lixing had nearly died on Wa Star.

Cold sweat broke out on Dai Weiyuan’s forehead. He was about to offer a defense, but Ji Xiaosong had already spun around gracefully, still holding the baby.

“Sui An, look. These are your father’s kinsmen, from the same branch.”

She lifted the baby higher, and a dazzling golden light suddenly erupted from his swaddling. “Oh my, is our little ancestor angry? This spiritual power outburst is just like your father’s.”

At that exact moment, Dai Lixing reached out and pulled his wife and son into his arms, watching with cold eyes as Dai Weiyuan scrambled backward in a panic, tripping over a celadon vase.

Amidst the spray of shattered porcelain, Ji Xiaosong leaned against her husband’s shoulder and chuckled. “Be careful, Second Uncle. The threshold of our Marshal Mansion is quite high. You wouldn’t want to throw out that old back of yours.”

Dai Weiyuan’s expression quickly reverted to a smile. “My lady, you’re making too much of it. It was all a misunderstanding. The family has always held Li Xing in high regard. And now that the young master is so exceptional, we are even more eager to play a part in his future.”

Dai Lixing gently patted Ji Sui’an. “Second Uncle, I suggest you save your breath. Song Song and I will take good care of Sui An. His future is for us, his parents, to decide. The family’s interference is not required.”

Hearing this, Dai Weiyuan grew anxious. “Li Xing, how can you say such a thing? You are still a member of the Dai Family! The family’s resources could help the young master develop so much better!”

Dai Lixing rose to his feet, his gaze ice-cold as he stared at Dai Weiyuan. “Second Uncle, do you really think I could ever trust you again? If not for Song Song, I would have died at your hands years ago. And now you think you can use Sui An to mend our relationship? Impossible!”

Seeing the tension escalate, the other clan elders quickly tried to smooth things over. “Now, now, Li Xing, let bygones be bygones. We truly came in good faith this time.”
