Chapter 1299: The Anti Off-Worlder Cult
Chapter 1299: The Anti Off-Worlder Cult
There’s a cult that is against Off-Worlders?
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since we have a cult of Off-Worlders working against this World, so for a group to exist that works against Off-Worlders would also be normal.
I turned to Katsuki, “How long have they been around?”
“From our records, we believe the earliest moment that they have appeared was about two years ago.”
“That long ago?”
“They were rather unorganised back then and they were more like individual cells that did not know of each other’s existence. It was only half a year later did they finally organise themselves into an actual group.”
I frowned slightly, “How dangerous are they?”
“If Mistress is asking if they are a threat to us, then the answer is no. If we want to eliminate them, we can do so relatively easily.”
“Ok… Good to know… But would they be a threat in any other context?”
“They would certainly be a threat to Off-Worlders who make themselves known and have proven themselves to be better off eliminated.”
I grimaced, “Have there been such people?”
“There have been a few, yes. They were mostly just Off-Worlders who were really delusional and trying to push their World’s morals on this World so they were dealt with pretty quickly.”
“And they are all Off-Worlders?”
“If Mistress is asking if this group had mistakenly prosecuted a native of this World thinking they are an Off-Worlder, then they have not done so yet as of today. They are quite serious in protecting the people of this World so they are quite meticulous in checking if the person they are targeting is an Off-Worlder or not.”
Oh? They are surprisingly serious then.
I looked down at the pendant they gave me, “Do you think I should check them out?”
“I believe it is safe for Mistress to do so. They will not be able to force you to do anything that you would not want.”
“Hmm… Then I guess I might as well just go and take a look to see if they are planning anything serious just in case.”
“Of course, Mistress.”
I tucked the pendant and the letter away in my Band of Folding and I enjoyed the rest of the event in relative peace since I’ve already turned away everyone else.
When I got home that night, I explained to all the girls about what happened and my desire to investigate this particular group.
Unfortunately, I most likely wouldn’t be able to bring anyone along with me for this little ’operation’ of mine.
My girls weren’t happy about that so I put in extra effort to make them happy that night, even going so far as to use my hair to tie them up and rail each of them.
Mother and Tiara also joined in halfway but that didn’t change anything so I just railed the both of them alongside my girls as well.
Needless to say, everyone was quite satisfied by the time we cuddled on the bed to drift off to sleep.
The next morning, I made good on my promise and headed towards the place that was marked on the map they gave me.
I was going there not as ’Aster’ but as ’the young lady of the Nilm Family’ so I had to wear the mask that hides my identity.
Since the place was located in the Commoner’s district, it would be difficult for a carriage to move through there so I had to proceed most of the way on foot.
Thankfully, most of the commoner population don’t recognise me as the young lady of the Nilm Family since noble politics is something that they don’t care for.
So while I got a few odd stares from a few of them wondering why I looked like that, most of them didn’t really pay much attention to me.
Moving through the streets with Katsuki, we headed to the building where the cult was supposedly located.
It was located in a small corner of the city where the place seemed to be a residential district.
The building itself did not look any different from the others around it but looking at the map, this was definitely the place.
Katsuki stopped at the entrance and bowed to me, “I will wait for you outside, Mistress.”
I nodded at her before pushing open the door to enter the interior of the building.
The inside was dark with only a single lamp lighting the room and a cloaked figure seated inside.
Even though their face was hidden, I could still tell that they were a male judging by their size.
He watched me silently, neither saying anything or doing anything to impede me.
I wordlessly took out the pendant and showed it to him.
Upon seeing the pendant, he moved from his seat towards one part of the wall and pressed his palm against it.
A small part of the wall sunk in, prompting a larger part of the wall to slide open and reveal a hidden passage with a set of stairs leading downwards.
Of course it would be underground…
I stepped past the cloaked guy and proceeded down the stairs, the passage illuminated by lanterns nailed to the walls of the passage.
I continued down the passage until I reached the bottom where it stretched out into a narrow passage that ran underneath the streets above.
Since there was only a single path forward, I followed it until I reached a relatively large chamber that looked like the interior of a temple with its rows of pews and even an altar of sorts.
I wasn’t sure which god this temple was dedicated to since I saw no symbols, carvings or statues that might clue me in on that.
There was already a large gathering of people in the chamber, all of them looking towards the altar where a single robed figure was standing. From the back, the only thing that could be seen was their head of long golden hair that tumbled past their back to reach their bottom.
Interestingly, it seems like there’s a mix of commoners and nobles all gathered in the chamber, none of them even caring about social status.
As I stepped into the chamber, the robed figure turned around to reveal that they were a Trasif with their long ears and the fact that I could tell their chest was bigger than their head despite the robe they were wearing confirmed that this was definitely a female Trasif.
She also had a domino mask on her face but that barely did anything to hide her obvious beauty that was underneath the mask.
From this distance, her eyes immediately locked on to me and she stretched out her hand towards my direction.
“Everyone… It seems like we have a new member who will be joining our group today. I am honoured to welcome the young Lady of the Nilm Family to our midst.”
Despite the fact that she wasn’t shouting and was merely talking in a normal tone, her voice seemed to reverberate around the chamber and everyone could hear her clearly.
All at once, hundreds of eyes turned to look at me, most of them baring their faces though there were a few who opted to wear masks to hide their faces amongst the crowd.
I’m guessing that those people are most likely high profile individuals who have to hide their participation in this cult here.
Although… The fact that this person outright announced my identity to everyone in the chamber made me wonder if anyone’s identity was supposed to be secret.
Then again, I did come here wearing clothes that would associate me with the Nilm Family so if I really wanted to hide myself, I would have worn something else.
From my interaction with the man at the secret door, it was already clear that they don’t see your faces but only the pendant that I received as proof of membership.
The Trasif walked down from the altar and approached me as I walked towards her as well.
We met in the middle under the gaze of everyone else in the chamber and she did a curtsy to me which told me she might be a noble as well.
I returned her curtsy with one of my own before she greeted me.
“Lady Nilm, I am honoured that you have shown interest in our little group.”
I raised up my hand, “First thing’s first… Why invite me to this group? I believe what you are doing here is extremely dangerous so why even involve me?”
A smile graced her face, “Because after seeing you protect the Tree of Life, we know that you are also interested in preserving the balance of this World and prevent outsiders from disrupting it. That is something our group requires, Lady Nilm.”
Well… She’s not wrong about that…
She then turned towards everyone else, “Today’s prayer service is adjourned, please remember to keep our dear Goddess in your hearts.”
Everyone bowed towards the altar before they started to leave.
The Trasif then turned back to me, “Come, Lady Nilm. We have much to discuss.”
What did I involve myself in?
