Chapter 1205: It’s The Same People
Chapter 1205: It’s The Same People
According to the agreement, we would first find out who were the ones responsible for the attempted assassination on the prince. Then afterwards, we would find the location of the headquarters and leaders of both extremist groups and let the King and Queen decide on whether we should take them out after obtaining that information.
Even though I said to get to work… It’s not like there was anything for us to do anyway since it was Katsuki that was doing most of the work.
I asked if she needed help but she told me that she would be able to deal with the information gathering herself and left late at night.
I was worried that she might run into trouble but she assured me that she would be fine.
I decided to put my trust in her and let her do her thing.
And I wasn’t disappointed because the very next morning, I found Katsuki already waiting for me at the foot of my bed with several stacks of papers.
“Good morning, Mistress.”
I yawned and slowly extracted myself from the mass of naked limbs that were my girls after our activities last night.
I had to pull myself out of Delmare who was laying on top of me before I squeezed out from the space between Lisa and Emilia. Somehow I also managed to get off of Odeta without waking her up either.
Katsuki waited patiently as I stretched myself to fully wake up before turning to her.
“Mmm~ Good morning Katsuki, what do you have for me?”
“It is a rather interesting case, Mistress. The ones who orchestrated the assassination attempt were, in fact, both groups working together.”
I blinked at her before making a face, “What? You’re telling me that these two groups that hate each other actually teamed up together to do something? How is that even possible?”
“That is the interesting part, Mistress. I investigated both sides and it seems like neither of the assassins that were involved during the assassination knew that they were working together with the other group.”
“Eh? Does that mean that they both planned the assassination at the same time and it just so happens to coincide at the same location and the same time?”
“No, they were under the impression that everyone was part of the same group. Which explains this.”
She then handed me a folder which I flipped open to reveal that it was an actual name list of the supposed leadership of the Wanderer Guides.
I was already impressed that she even managed to find out the list of names which meant we knew exactly who they were so even if we couldn’t deal with them, we could still expose them.
But what did she mean that the earlier thing would explain this? I see no correlation at all?
She then handed me another folder and this time it was the name list of the leadership of the Progressive Collective.
I was planning to just skim through it because it wasn’t like these names would mean anything to me even if I saw them anyway since I have no idea who was who. Unless the King and Queen were involved with them of course but their names were not present on the list.
Hmmm? Wait a moment…
I picked up the folder with the names of the Wanderer Guides once more and started comparing the two lists.
“Wait a minute… More than half of the names match up on both sides?!” I cried out.
Katsuki nodded, “The ones in the higher positions are actually playing both sides of the conflict. I investigated further and it seems like a few generations earlier, there was a specific family that wanted to control both sides for their own benefit and they infiltrated their own members into the organisations. They then worked their way up to the leadership positions and started slowly taking over the organisations from within before they finally reached where they are today.”
“Wait… So does that mean that it’s some noble family within this Kingdom that is plotting to assassinate the prince?”
She nodded, “That is correct, Mistress. More specifically, it’s the current minister of Internal Affairs. The minister himself is not a part of the organisation but his family is the one that has infiltrated into the organisations over the years to gain control of them.”
“So what’s their goal then? I honestly don’t see how assassinating the next heir of the Kingdom would be beneficial to them?”
“Their end goal was not the death of the prince, Mistress, it was simply a means to an end. They wish to take out all the other remaining leadership members within both organisations to become the sole leaders of them. Once they achieve that, they would be able to completely control the Kingdom from the shadows.”
I frowned and looked back at the name lists again, counting at least a dozen or so members on both sides that they would be trying to eliminate.
“How is the assassination of the prince tied to the elimination of everyone else?”
“If the prince were to be killed, they would then contact the Royal Family and sell out the others claiming that they were the ones responsible and have the Royal Family take them out instead. It would then look like a peace offering that the ones who were not responsible for the assassination sent as a gift to the Royal Family and they would clear all animosity with that, allowing the family full control over both organisations. Once they have that, they would then make a move on the Royal Family themselves, most likely through some kind of political marriage to have a claim on the throne before they finally take over the entire Kingdom.”
I blinked at her, “That… Sounds really convoluted… How did you even find out all of this in just a single night?”
“The Nilm Family had already marked them as a potential threat, Mistress. We already have spies within their organisation and we have been keeping tabs on them for a while now. A few of the servants working at that minister’s house are also our own people, Mistress.”
“Ah… So you were basically making contact with them last night to gather everything that they know?”
“That is correct, Mistress.”
Ok, now everything makes sense. No wonder she assured me there wouldn’t be any problems… She wasn’t exactly gathering all the information herself, she was basically just going around to meet up with colleagues to get them to hand over information to her.
But now I know… We already had people infiltrating this place huh… So the King and Queen worrying about us making use of this contract to plant spies here is pointless because there’s no need for us to do that when we already have spies here.
I wonder if Emilia knew that already?
Wait…
I tilted my head at Katsuki, “Do we have servants infiltrating the palace as well?”
“Of course, Mistress. The one that served you the sweets yesterday during the Queen’s tea party is one of ours.”
Ehhh?!
If I remember correctly, the Queen even called her by name so that means she’s at least quite trusted by the Queen as well right? Damn… If only they knew…
I didn’t really think about this but I guess this is why our Family is so feared huh… You never know if that servant you hired is actually someone from the Nilm Family who would not hesitate to kill you if ordered to do so…
Heck, even without the threat of death, it also means that whatever secrets your family has would most likely be revealed to the Nilm Family through those servants as well. We literally have blackmail material on everyone then.
Putting that aside, I gestured at the name lists in front of me, “So I guess we just bring this to the King and Queen and let them decide what to do with these people? Actually… Would they even believe us? Do we have proof?”
“Yes, we do. Several of them, in fact. One of which is an assassin we captured last night that we currently have in custody. We have already broken him so he would be quite cooperative in revealing all the secrets he knows. If that is not enough, we also have the letters with the orders that were meant to be disposed of but our people intercepted them to be kept for safekeeping. We also have an assault team on standby within the city that we can call upon to capture the minister to bring him in front of the Royal Family as well.”
Seems like Katsuki was really thorough in preparing all this huh…
Well, I guess this also means we did our part of the contract so let’s head to the palace now and report a mission complete~
Then they can decide if they want these people to be wiped out or not and we can also get to work on doing that~
Wake up girls! Time for us to actually do the work now!
