Chapter 1204: Trust Us, We’re Not Planning Anything Bad At All

Chapter 1204: Trust Us, We’re Not Planning Anything Bad At All

The King, Queen and the Prince all looked at each other after Emilia delivered her ultimatum.

The Queen then turned back to us, “May we be allowed a moment to discuss this?”

Emilia turned to look at me, passing the decision to me instead.

I nodded, “Fine. But don’t keep us waiting for long. If I have to wait here too long, I may just lose interest in this entirely and just leave.”

Obviously that was a not so subtle threat that we may retract this offer if we think they were stalling for time.

The three of them nodded simultaneously before they got up to leave the room.

Huh… They actually vacated the place? I was prepared to leave with my girls instead since that should normally be the case right? Seeing that this was their place and they are technically higher in position than us, it should make sense that we should be the ones that left the room.

For them to voluntarily leave instead… There must be a reason for that.

I waited for them to leave before I turned to my girls and raised a single eyebrow to silently ask for their opinions.

Lisa shuddered, “Unnn… That last part was so hot, Aster~ Can you use that commanding voice on me sometimes? Especially when you have your hands around my neck while you’re–”

I cleared my throat, “Ahem… Anyone else think it’s weird they were the ones who left the room to discuss instead of us?”

Emilia tilted her head, “Isn’t that normal, Boss? We are the ones holding the cards right now and you are here as a representative of the Nilm Family. With all things considered, they cannot afford to show you any disrespect, especially after what they have already done to you so far.”

No… That’s the thing… Precisely because they have been secretly doing all this stuff and trying to subtly guide me to do what they want for them, it’s odd that they would suddenly be so considerate.

If I’m not wrong…

I turned to Katsuki, “Is there someone else nearby that isn’t the three Royals or us around here?”

Everyone else turned to my maid as she looked around for a moment before she closed her eyes to concentrate.

Her brows suddenly furrowed before she looked up at the ceiling for a moment and then looked back at me again.

“I do not sense anyone, Mistress.”

I was about to take her word for it when she quickly shook her head and pointed up towards the ceiling.

She then pointed at her eyes before shaking her head right before she pointed her ears and nodded her head.

Ah… So that’s why…

Those three left the room because they had people here that were listening in on the conversation and wanted to keep us here to check if we might say anything while they aren’t in the room.

And if I understood Katsuki correctly, she’s indicating that those eavesdroppers could only hear us and not see us.

Perfect then.

I leaned back and nodded at the girls. If they wanted to scheme against us, then we can scheme against them as well.

I turned to Emilia, “So what do you think about them?”

Emilia pretended to think, “I believe they would most likely accept the deal. If they do not, then we can always just leave and let them deal with it themselves. It’s not like we have an obligation to help them and we don’t really have a vested interest in this location anyway.”

“So what are the plans if they accept the deal and we get what we want?”

“We’ll set up some businesses here to test out how profitable it is to do business here. It’s always nice to expand our operations and we would have easier access to the markets here if we are able to set up a branch here.”

I can’t even tell if Emilia was saying that as a legitimate response to my question or if it was simply a ruse for our eavesdropper to hear.

Either way, I’ll still ask her about it later so let’s just try and push that narrative along while assuming it’s a ruse for now.

“Which businesses are we thinking of setting up here assuming they accept the deal?”

“Hmm… We do have some new fashion products… Maybe also a potions store since there’s bound to be special ingredients within the forest that won’t be found elsewhere. And to get those ingredients, we’ll probably need to get people capable of fighting against monsters so probably a subset of the Mercenaries will be stationed here to help them clear out the monsters better.”

Ok, I know for a fact that Emilia was definitely saying that purely for our eavesdropper to hear because everything she just listed is more beneficial to the people of this city than it was to us.

If the King and Queen learn of this, they would be more inclined to accept our deal if they knew our plans would benefit them in the long run too.

Odeta then gave Emilia a look, “Are we going to control the king and the queen after we set up here or something? After all, we will be protecting them as well, aren’t we?”

Odeta!! Why did you have to ask that?! Isn’t that a very bad question?! Are you not aware that we’re trying to trick them right now and there’s someone listening in on us?!

Emilia didn’t even waste a single beat and answered, “Most likely not, there’s no real benefit for us to do that anyway. As long as they do not interfere with our business, we would be happy to keep things as they are without interfering too much. We are outsiders after all, so we will conform to them as best we can. If we don’t, we might risk a war between the two Kingdoms and that is something we would like to avoid.”

Oh, I think Odeta actually asked that on purpose just to get Emilia to answer it like that. In that case, that was a nice question, Odeta! And good answer Emilia!

In that case, let’s try to push a little further…

“So I take it that we would also be doing our best to accommodate the Royal Family after we settle in?” I asked.

Emilia smiled wickedly, “Of course, Boss. We are here to do business after all, not to meddle with politics. We can just leave all the politics to them and let them take care of that while we concentrate on business.”

Yeah, that smile of hers told me that we would most definitely be putting people here to spy on them and we’ll most likely also be involved with their politics if we weren’t already doing that to begin with.

Then again, we literally have their prime minister in our pocket so if you think about it, we already started doing it even without this agreement.

Well, I think that’s good enough for them to hear and anymore than that might give it away that we knew they were listening in.

Lisa probably thought the same as well because she suddenly giggled, “Hey, hey~ Since it might take a while for them to come back… How about we have a quick orgy here?”

Or… She might just be horny and wants to fuck… I can never tell with her…

Thankfully, I was saved from answering her as the door slid open and the three Royals entered the room once again.

Whoever was eavesdropping on us must have a way to relate whatever we said to the three of them because it looks like the atmosphere around them was more relaxed than before, most likely from ’knowing’ that we weren’t actually a threat to them.

Still, I wasn’t foolish enough to think that they completely bought our ruse and could still suspect that we knew we were being eavesdropped to feed them false information.

But honestly, it doesn’t even matter much because if they reject the idea, then we can just simply wash our hands of them and leave without losing anything.

The three of them sat down at the same spot on their side of the room once more before the Queen laid down the contract that Emilia had given her on the table.

The first thing I noticed was the fact that it was already signed by the King which means…

“As you might have guessed, we accept your proposal and as long as you also abide by your terms, we will abide by ours. Would that be satisfactory?”

Emilia didn’t answer straight away as she reached down to pick up the contract to read it.

I’m guessing she’s checking if they tampered with the contract while they were outside but it seems like everything was fine because she turned to nod at me.

I turned to the King, “In that case, our agreement is sealed and we shall start our work in dealing with those two groups first. It’s been a pleasure doing business with you, your Majesty.”

They made no move to escort us out as we stood up to leave.

Guess it’s time to get to work~
