Chapter 1124: Where’s Tom?
Chapter 1124: Where’s Tom?
Carrey looked at the illegal slavers that were being led away by the knights.
“Umm… What’s going to happen to them… Mistress?”
I tilted my head at her, “Hmm? I dunno? What usually happens to illegal slavers?”
Katsuki appeared beside me, “For this city in particular, they are usually executed, Mistress.”
I turned to her, “In this city in particular? Does that mean it’s different for other places?”
She nodded, “Since this place is known as the slave capital of the Kingdom, the laws around slavery are much harsher which also includes illegal slavery as well. In other cities, the illegal slavers might just be punished by being made into slaves themselves for a length of time, where the time is dependent on how involved they are in the operation. Some might even be made slaves for life if they have been particularly notorious.”
“Hmm… So that means all the illegal slavers caught today will just be executed then? In that case, why did we even bother knocking them out? We could have just killed them.”
“Information, Mistress. This was definitely not a small operation considering how many people were involved, so they must have others that were involved in this scheme.”
“Err… I mean… If they already know they are going to die anyway… Would they even talk?”
“We have ways of making them wish for death, Mistress.”
Ah right… I guess it’s better if I just don’t ask about it… This is none of my business anyway~
The only reason why I even bothered with this group was that I was upset they were using those kids for their own purposes.
Speaking of which…
“Did you girls see Tom around here?” I asked, remembering that the kid was supposedly doing some work for those illegal slavers.
Katsuki paused before turning to me, “We have not seen him, Mistress.”
I frowned, “No one has seen him? Does that mean that he might still be somewhere out there and stuck with some other group of illegal slavers?”
Katsuki bowed her head, “I will search for him right away, Mistress.”
She then disappeared before I could wonder how exactly she was going to find him.
Unexpectedly, Carrey also quickly turned to me, “Umm… Umm… I… I will go and help as well, Mistress!”
“Eh? You don’t really need to though. I think Katsuki would be enough for this.”
“Ple… Please! I’ve been a burden to you so far, Mistress! At least let me do something to make up for it!”
I pouted at her, “That’s definitely not true! Without you, we wouldn’t have known when was the best time to attack these illegal slavers and round all of them up! You’ve been nothing but helpful, Carrey!”
She poked her fingers together, “Thank… Thank you, Mistress… But I would still like to help out if you would allow me to?”
“Hmm… How do you plan to find him though?”
“I… I still have some acquaintances that I can contact to see if they have met anyone that matches his description, Mistress! Please allow me to help!”
Since she already said this much, there was no way I was going to turn her down right?
I nodded at her to go ahead and she also ran off.
Hmm… Maybe I should also call my Shadow Guards to help search for the boy?
Then again… Maybe I’ll wait until Katsuki asks for it in case she mistakes that as a sign that I don’t trust her or something…
Right then, Unerolia came running towards me with her arms outstretched.
“Assssttteeeerrrr!!” She cried.
I braced myself just in time as she leapt towards me hugging my back while stuffing her face in between my boobs.
She stayed there for a moment before she started rubbing her face in my cleavage so I pulled her back by the collar to detach her from my chest.
“Did you need something, Sister Rolia?”
“Mwehehehe~ Dealing with all the paperwork was really stressful so I’m here to get my charge of Asternium!”
What the heck is ’Asternium’?
She continued, “Anyway! It’s great that we got this group before they managed to run away! It seems like they were planning to relocate today so if we hadn’t moved when we did, they would have already escaped.”
Right, Carrey did say they were moving the illegal slaves away so that might be tied to it. Guess we were indeed lucky.
Wait… If they were planning to leave…
I gasped, “Does that mean they’ve already taken Tom outside the city?!”
Unerolia looked up at me, “Who’s Tom?”
“Eh? Didn’t I tell you? He was one of the kids at the temple where I met Srii earlier–”
Unerolia immediately tried to cover my mouth before she paused, her hands frozen in midair.
She then slowly lowered them down again, probably remembering that I already told her Srii allowed me to call her by her name.
Ehehehe~ As I thought, they will still react to it~
She let out a sigh, “Right, right… I forgot about that… Ummm… So that boy is also involved with the illegal slavers, right?”
“Against his will, yes.”
“Hmm, hmm~ As much as I would like to mobilise the knights for this, I’m afraid that I wouldn’t be able to justify moving this much resources just for one person who is, quite frankly, not that important…”
I waved my hand at her, “It’s alright, Sister Rolia, I understand. Katsuki is already searching for him so I don’t think it would take long before he is found.”
“Oh of course, why did I even think that I could outmatch the Nilm family in dealing with this? Especially since you could most likely just mobilise the servants of your Family that are no doubt hiding all around this city.”
I tilted my head, “Umm… I don’t think we will use them though? I’m technically on a journey now to stay out of my family’s influence.”
She spun to me, “Ehhh?! Wait, you’re not running away from home, are you?!”
“How did you even come to that conclusion? I told you I’m heading to Aerialla Academy, didn’t I? I’m just trying to get there with my own abilities and explore the World while I’m at it without relying on my family as much as possible.”
She let out a sigh of relief, “Phew… I see, I see… I don’t know how I would have dealt with your mother if she came here looking for you had you said you were running away from home… But now that I think about it… I guess that’s not even possible since she wouldn’t allow that to happen in the first place.”
I suppose she does have a point… I think if I told Mother I was running away from home, she would have just picked me up and brought me to bed until I told her I wasn’t leaving anymore.
Not that I ever planned to do that, mind you.
She turned back to look at me, “So are you really expecting Katsuki to be able to find that boy on her own? This city is quite big, you know?”
Before I could even answer her, Katsuki reappeared again with a bow, “Mistress. Marchioness Unerolia. Good evening.”
“Oh, have you already found him, Katsuki?” I asked.
She bowed again, “I have, Mistress. Please take a look at this.”
She then handed me a scroll which I unfurled to reveal it was a map of the city. More specifically, it was a map that was focused on the east exit of the city and there was a small red dot just outside of it.
“Is that… Another base of theirs or something?” I asked.
Katsuki nodded, “It seems like it’s a camp that they are using to store most of their illicit goods before they smuggle them somewhere else. The boy was taken there to help them pack up their base so I believe they are already planning to move away to another location. Not only that, he does not seem like the only one that is there for their manpower capabilities.”
I understood her last sentence as her telling me that there were also other children like Tom that they were taking advantage of, either for the free or cheap labour these kids offered the slavers.
I gave her a serious look, “How many are we looking at around here?”
“A few dozen or so, Mistress.”
“How has anyone not noticed this at all?!”
“I believe only a small number of them came from this city, Mistress. Most of the children look like they are from other cities and they are just being kept around by these illegal slavers as permanent workers.”
Great… So we aren’t only dealing with these illegal slavers, we might also have to mount another rescue operation to deal with the other outpost’s illegal slaves…
Whatever… Since we’ve already done it once here before, it shouldn’t be too hard for us to deal with it again, right?
And if it’s too difficult… There’s always the option of just summoning all my Shadow Guards to deal with that!
