Chapter 1114: We’re Definitely Wiping This Group Out

Before we went off to exterminate some illegal slave traders… I decided to confront Tom first.

The boy shuffled nervously as I brought him to the corner of the courtyard, away from the other kids.

“Tom… You’re involved with some bad people aren’t you?” I asked, deciding to just get straight to the point.

He froze up for a moment before peeking at me, “How… How does big sister know?”

“Let’s just say that I have some people look into the state of this temple. I want to know what you know from you though, so are you willing to talk?”

He fiddled with his fingers and I could tell that he didn’t actually want to talk so I tried to pressure him a little.

I pressed my hand against the wall behind him and leaned over him, using my height to overshadow him to make myself look more threatening.

“It would be best that you just tell me what I want to know, Tom. It will be easier for everyone involved.”

The boy looked up at me before his gaze drifted downward and… Hmm? His face is getting red? Is he that nervous that his face would go that red?

Well, at least I know this is working since he finally started talking after hesitating for a while more.

“Umm… Umm… What does… Big sister want to know?”

“How did you get involved with them?”

He averted his gaze, “Umm… Umm… One day there were just some big adults that came here and they took me away to talk… They said that they can give us some food if I helped them do stuff…”

“What kind of stuff did they make you do?”

So they were making him act as a thief and a lookout huh… At least they weren’t really serious crimes…

“And did you know that they were basically making you commit crimes?”

He hesitated again before slowly nodding his head.

“Why didn’t you look for the guards or someone else for help?”

“What about the food they promised?” I asked, pushing myself back from the wall. “All of you certainly do not look like you have been eating well at all.”

The kid fiddled with his fingers again, “That… Ummm… They said that the amount of food they gave me would depend on how much work I did for them… And I can’t do a lot of work since I have to take care of everyone else too… So… So… Most of the time… They would just give me one loaf of bread to share with everyone…”

I reached out and patted his head, “You don’t need to worry now, Tom. Big sister will take care of everything, ok?”

He looked up at me in a panic and quickly shook his head, “No, no! Big sister! Don’t do it! Those bad adults are really, really bad! I saw a few other Mer… Umm… Mer… Mer… Few other adults went to attack them but they were all dead!”

I’m guessing what Tom meant to say was that a few Mercenaries tried to attack those illegal slave traders but ended up getting killed by them instead.

I smiled at him, “Don’t worry, I won’t be alone.”

He shook his head even faster, “Those people weren’t alone either, big sister! Please! You have to believe me!”

“Mmm… I understand. Just relax, ok?”

He must have thought that I was convinced and already decided to stop pursuing them but I was just thinking that I might need more preparations before I go ahead to deal with those illegal slave traders.

I left to check on the rest and found the kids all inside the temple, sprawled out on the pews and fast asleep.

I guess it was time for their afternoon nap after they played all morning, even Millie was tuckered out on top of a spare pew.

George was at the side with a book in his hand and he quickly leapt to his feet when he saw me.

“Oh! Umm… Hello, big sister Aster. Are you done talking to Tom?”

I nodded, “I’ll have to talk to some people about their situation. Also, a caretaker will be arriving in the next few days so you don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

He blinked at me, “Is… Big sister a noble?”

“Eh? Why do you think so?”

I walked back out of the temple before letting out a sigh.

“How many people do they have?”

“A lot, Mistress. We estimate them to be a group of at least a hundred or so people. In fact, we believe that they might only just be a branch of a bigger crime syndicate. Unfortunately, we don’t have any evidence to back up that claim yet so it’s just pure speculation for now.”

At least a hundred people huh? I can see why a normal Mercenary party might get wiped out by them. They were probably just a C or D ranked party that came across that slaver group by chance and thought they were just a small bandit group and rushed in.

Good thing we wouldn’t have that problem.

“Do we know the name of the group?” I asked.

“They call themselves the Merai Slaver group, Mistress.”

I heard a soft gasp from the side and I realised it came from Carrey, the Trasif seemingly hiding her expression when I turned to her.

“Carrey? What’s wrong?”

“No… Nothing, Mistress!” She squeaked, clearly trying to hide something.

I tilted my head at her and she seemed to be conflicted on whether she should tell me what she was trying to hide.

Eventually, she sighed, “They… They were part of the group that enslaved me, Mistress…”

“Ah… So basically, this means we can also take some revenge on them, right?”

She looked up at me with wide eyes, “Mis… Mistress! Could… Could I convince you to reconsider? They are a really large group and they have really strong members too! I think it would be a better idea to just leave!”

Huh… For Carrey to be that afraid of them as well… I guess she must have seen them do some really bad things.

Well, she doesn’t know our real strength yet and I doubt that any of those slavers have the same power as a dragon so we should be fine.

I patted her head, “Don’t worry Carrey! We can take them on, no problem!”

She looked unconvinced but I guess she knew better than to argue with me and just nodded quietly.

I turned back to Katsuki, only to see her staring at Carrey with a wistful expression on her face.

Oh, right. I can’t believe I forgot.

I patted Katsuki’s head as well, “Thank you for helping me gather all that information Katsuki. What will I ever do without you?”

Her tail started wagging fervently behind her while she lowered her head, “It is nothing, Mistress. I am merely doing what is expected of me.”

Ehehehe~ You can pretend to be cool all you want, Katsuki, but I know you’re enjoying this~

Carrey turned to me while I was still occupied with patting Katsuki’s head, “Mistress? Umm… Are you really bent on fighting those slavers?”

I tilted my head at her, “I suppose so? We’ve already helped out these kids so we might as well just deal with the problem at the root. Otherwise, those slavers will just continue to be a problem around here, right?”

Carrey pursed her lips, “If… If Mistress really wants to go through with that… Umm… Then please allow me to help! I… I know some people while I was still a slave kept by them and they are being held there against their will as well! They might be able to give me some information about their base and the people we would be dealing with!”

“Eh? Is that ok? Wouldn’t you be at risk?”

She shook her head, “Don’t worry, Mistress! I know what I’m doing! Please leave it to me!”

“Then… I guess you can take Katsuki with you?”
