What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?
Chapter 311: Superheroes Problem
Well fuck my luck... Why the heck did this guy have to show up right at this moment?
The superhero known as Captain RV slowly floated closer towards us, his gaze locked on me the entire time.
"You... You look... Familiar..."
Really? You barely saw me that one time, how the heck do you have any impression of me?
I didn’t get to say anything before he shook his head and continued, "Doesn’t matter. You might as well just give up now, criminal. I’ve caught you redhanded extorting these people."
Surprisingly, the student I just saved quickly stood up, "Wa... Wait! He saved me! Those three... Those three were trying to rob me! He saved me!"
Oh? I’m surprised he actually chose to speak up for me.
Instead of pacifying him though, Captain RV narrowed his eyes before gasping, "I remember now!! You’re that hooded vigilante or whatever!! You! How dare you run away the last time! Come quietly now or else!"
God damnit... As usual, the hero types are always too uptight about the rules and regulations...
I gestured towards him, "Come on... We’re basically working for the people here... I just don’t want to be tied down to a government organisation. Can’t we just coexist?"
"Vigilantism is a crime here! If we were to allow people like you to just do whatever you want in the name of justice, then there would be chaos! There will be people like you going around beating people up and calling it justice!"
I gestured towards myself, "Don’t worry, I am a very responsible vigilante. You can give me a pass."
He descended until he was floating about an inch off the ground and crossed his arms at me, "If you get a pass, why shouldn’t the next vigilante get a pass too? It’ll just keep increasing in number once a single person gets an exception."
As much as I hate to admit it, he does have a point. Not that I was ever going to say it out loud of course.
I gestured at myself, "I’m different because I’m special."
He gave me a pointed stare, clearly in disbelief at how brazen I was to say something as arrogant as that.
Heck, even the student was staring at me in disbelief.
Captain RV huffed and floated closer to me, "It’s precisely this kind of thinking that makes vigilantes like you so dangerous! I recommend that you just surrender quietly and give yourself up. You’ll only be punished for the crime of vigilanteism and nothing else. After that, you can get yourself registered as a government sanctioned hero and work as a proper hero. Wouldn’t that be better?"
I scoffed and crossed my own arms at him, "And be stuck under constant supervision where someone gets to decide for me who deserves saving and who doesn’t? Yeah... I don’t think so."
"Power needs to be regulated. Unregulated power is a recipe for a disaster. You can already see such examples from various different regions where they do not regulate the people who have awakened powers. If you truly care for the people and are good of heart, you will accept that some sacrifices are necessary."
"Yeah, that’s why we have the good guys like you who are the shining beacon of hope for people. Just let me be the one in the alleyways getting down and dirty. Don’t mind me."
He furrowed his brows and floated up into the air slightly, "I am giving you a last warning. Or else I will be taking you in by force."
Tsk... Do I really have to fight him?
As much as I am annoyed by supers like him, I can at least admit that supers like him are actually doing their best to make the streets a safer place and most of them do genuinely have the belief of wanting to do good with the powers they were given.
But yeah... I’m still not going to let myself get tied down like them. I can work together with them if they want but if they want to bring me in or punish me for my vigilantism, they’ll have to work for it.
My plan was to maybe give him a short fight to let the boy run off and then distract him enough to run away just like what I did the last time.
"Go," I told the student, who hesitated for a moment as though he was thinking if he should step in to help me pacify him before finally gathering his things to run off.
Captain RV at least had the decency not to attack me while the student was still there and only adopted a fighting stance once the boy was gone.
I lowered myself into a stance as well, fully prepared to counter whatever he was going to throw at me when a figure suddenly appeared in between us from the sky.
"Stooooooop! Ok! What is this?! What’s going on here?!"
I blinked, realising there was now a woman wearing the same type of spandex outfit as Captain RV floating in between the two of us. The difference was that her costume’s theme was blue and silver in colour while Captain RV’s was gold and white.
The suit that the woman was wearing did nothing to hide her curves and her head of messy brown hair was left to float around her freely, her face hidden by a teal domino mask.
Ah... I know her. Her hero name was Singa Sister if I remember correctly.
She’s supposedly Captain RV’s rival in the hero community though they were both superheroes, with both of them competing on trying to be the best super in this city.
Singa Sister looked between Captain RV and me before switching her gaze to the unconscious thugs that I had beaten up.
She frowned and turned to scowl at Captain RV, "Why did you hurt all these innocent people?"
Captain RV scowled back at her, "They’re not innocent! Those three are robbers and that guy is a vigilante! I’m trying to subdue him right now!"
Her scowl turned into a smile, "Oh! Why didn’t you say so? You should have started with that!"
"You didn’t give me a chance!"
"That’s your fault for looking so menacing and threatening."
"What? How do you want me to look when I’m trying to fight someone then?"
"At least be nice. The vigilante did your work for you didn’t he? At least thank him."
"That’s a criminal too! The vigilante is literally also a criminal!"
"But he’s cute though?"
"His face is covered! What are you even talking about?! Did you even look at-- Where did he go?!"
Yeah... While those two were busy bickering like some couple from a drama, I had already snuck away from there and hid myself behind a pillar to peek at them.
Like I said... These two have a rivalry... And they’ve always been competing with each other sometimes even over the simplest of things.
Still... When things get serious, the two of them would still be able to work together properly to solve the crisis.
Anyway, I wasn’t going to stick around and let myself get dragged into a fight with two supers so I ran off the first chance I got.
I was still curious what they would do once I disappeared so I hid myself to see what they were going to do once they realised I was gone.
Captain RV was understandably annoyed as he turned back to Singa Sister, "Come on! You distracted me and now that guy managed to run away! You made me lose a criminal!"
Singa Sister shrugged, "Hey, don’t blame me. At least you still have three bad guys laying here right? Shouldn’t you be focused on finishing the job?"
The other hero clucked his tongue before descending back to the ground to start picking up the thugs I knocked out, "This is why I don’t like vigilantes... They just beat the thugs and call it a day without actually finishing the job... At least bring them to a police station or something instead of just running off!"
Despite his grumbling, he was still dutifully grabbing up all the thugs before he took to the sky and flew off with them as his ’trophies’ to be handed in at the police station.
Singa Sister watched him leave before she turned back to look in the direction of where I was hiding, "Ok~ He’s gone now~ You can come out of your hiding spot now~"
Shit... How does she know?
I thought she might be bluffing so I didn’t move but she pointed directly at the I she was hiding behind, "You’re right over there by the way~ Don’t worry, I won’t bite~ You can trust me~"
That’s the kind of words someone untrustworthy would say in order to trick other people into trusting them.
Ah... Whatever, I guess I might as well just come out and see what the great Singa Sister will say to me...
