What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?

Chapter 310: Our Worlds Aren’t That Different After All

At this point I had already handed over the rift mostly to Siti and Diana to handle and operate more as a support for them.

Not that those two were doing anything else now since they were also just waiting for their own people to fly over here to start their actual clearing of the rift.

That meant I found myself to have quite a lot of free time in my hands all of a sudden.

I mean... I could still go help out at the rift but... There would be literally nothing for me to do.

And I figured that right now, they would have to rebuild the base once again and having a few Mortal Gods hanging around the base was unnecessary stress for them so I refrained from doing so.

Siti and Diana also had kind of the same idea so they didn’t go to the rift either.

Instead, the three of us just sent one of our Guardians there to watch over the rift and to extend our protection over the workers from the miasma.

For me, I sent Dan there, not to bully him but because once he was done for the day, he could just go back to his family since he was already at the mainland anyway.

The two Mortal Goddesses in question chose to tour around the city, though I think it’s more accurate to say that they were going shopping.

As for me... I’m busy doing something else. Something that I had not had the chance to do for a while since I got caught up with dealing with the rift.

I stood on top of the residential building, looking down at what appeared to be a mugging where three guys were in the midst of robbing some student returning home from his lessons.

It’s sad to see that even in a place like ours, sights like this are still happening in the shadows after people have awakened their powers.

Just a little bit of power and they believe that gives them the right to stand above and bully people they deem lower than themselves.

I took a moment to make sure I had my hoodie and my mask on before stepping off the ledge and letting myself fall towards the ground.

I changed my gravity as the ground came close to me and stepped down on it lightly, the four of them not noticing my presence at all.

"Hey," I called out to them.

The three thugs turned their heads to look behind them, spotting me standing there with my hands in my pockets.

I nodded at the boy they were bullying, "Think you can let him go? He clearly doesn’t want to be with you guys."

The one in the middle stepped up and spat on the ground, "Why you’ve got to be such a busybody? You have too much time is it?"

He stretched out his hand and electrical sparks appeared around his fingers, revealing he had awakened powers related to electricity.

His two cronies stepped up beside him, one of them cracking his knuckles and the other grinning at me.

"You should have minded your own business. But I guess you just volunteered yourself to be our next target," The thug on the left smirked.

I sighed, "You have these powers and you use them for petty things like this... Don’t you feel ashamed?"

"We were given powers for a reason, idiot. Only the words of the strong matter! Weaklings can only whine and lament their own fates and depend on the strong to save them too! So what’s wrong with us taking what we want?!"

I paused.

The words he said shook my core.

In the rift, I had heard almost the exact same thing being said by the people in that World and I had thought to myself that the line of thinking only existed in that place because of how their society had fallen and they adopted that might makes right mentality out of a need for survival.

I had naively thought our World was better and more civilised where we wouldn’t see things like making people slaves to generate electricity or just mistreat someone for being weak.

I had simply been blind to it. Our World was not much better... It’s just that the rot was hidden better because there were just stronger people who did not see things like they do.

If there were more Mortal Gods who thought the same way as Khar and the others from that World... Perhaps Earth would have turned into something like that.

In fact, I heard rumours that in some countries, the Mortal Gods do act that way and there are places where slavery not only exists but is also rampant.

I narrowed my eyes at the three thugs in front of me.

I am not idealistic enough to believe that everyone should just hold hands together and sing kumbayah, but it’s because trash of society like this exists that we are still divided even when we have a common enemy.

And because trash like that exists... They need a cleaner to clean up the trash.

I suppose I will just have to be that cleaner...

I clenched my fists and glared at the three thugs in front of me, letting a little bit of my lightning cackle around my arms and down to my fists, drawing their attention.

The leader of the thugs frowned at the sight of my lightning before smirking at me, "So that’s it? You really thought that you’re some big shit because you have the same powers as I do? You thought you were one of the strong, eh?"

The thug on the right stepped forward as his skin turned into a metallic grey, "No need to waste time with him boss! Just let me handle him!!"

Without waiting for a response, he charged towards me with his fist raised, clearly intending to punch me with it.

I assume his powers were something related to turning himself into metal or something to enhance his durability and strength.

I narrowed my eyes and watched the guy rush towards me in slow motion, his fist coming straight for my face.

The fact that he was already aiming for my face from the start said a lot. He wasn’t even trying to hold back here.

In that case...

I raised my palm, catching his fist as he punched it with a loud thud.

He definitely threw his entire weight into that punch but... As everyone could see, I did not even move an inch from the impact.

A guy... Clad in metal... Came up to punch the guy who has already shown that he has lightning powers... What do you think was going to happen?

I activated my lightning, letting the electrical current flow down my arm to electrocute him.

The thug let out a scream of pain and as he tried to pull his arm back, only to realise that he could not free himself from my grip and it wasn’t just because his muscles were refusing to obey him because of the electrical currents coursing through him.

I kept the lightning up until I saw the guy’s eyes roll back to his head before letting go, allowing the unconscious thug to fall onto the ground with a resounding thud with smoke coming out of his body.

The two thugs watched their smoking friend in shock.

They had already expected me to be sent flying from the punch so watching me pull a reversal on them was not something they expected.

I did not give them time to recover as I shot a bolt of lightning to strike against the chest of the thug on the other side, sending him flying away to crash into the wall.

The leader of the thugs finally recovered and let out a yell, his arms thrusting out towards me to shoot his own bolt of lightning at me.

It felt weak...

Completely incomparable to mine, much less Olivia’s lightning.

I didn’t even try to counter or avoid it.

Instead, I reached out my hand and caught his lightning, taking control over it and enhancing it with my own lightning instead.

I then sent it flying right back at him, striking him in the chest and electrocuting him as well while sending him flying back.

He crashed back down on the ground, joining his friends in unconsciousness.

I went over to the boy who was still cowering on the ground, "You ok?"

He looked up at me, "You... You... I... I’m fine... Umm... Thank... Thank you..."

I was going to tell him to get home when I heard something in the air behind me, like something just pushed the air aside.

Turning back, I saw a person I really didn’t want to see.

A guy wearing a white spandex suit with the letters ’RV’ emblazoned on his chest.

Captain RV...

He took one look at the unconscious guys and me standing over a cowering student and... I guess he already assumed that I was the bad guy here.

Fuck.
