Chapter 542 - 297: To Hell Together
"I can tell you what the Dragon Witch’s plan is... why she appeared here... why she helped the Dragon Eater Association release the Mad Dragon, and why... she placed the Mad Dragon’s Blood Covenant on you."
’The Mad Dragon’s Blood Covenant!?’
A flicker of emotion finally appeared in the Dragon Knight’s brilliant Golden Eyes.
Immense delight spread across Elder Pence’s face. He thought he finally had the leverage the Dragon Knight so desperately needed.
"The Dragon Witch deceived you. I know this because she deceived us as well... She worked with us to summon the Dragon Tide, intending to use Berthelili as a blood sacrifice to hasten the unsealing of the Mad Dragon. But at the last moment, we lost contact with her. She went back on her word..."
Elder Pence spat the words out through gritted teeth.
"Do you know why the Dragon Witch appeared at Traitor’s Cliff? Such a crude trap is nothing to a Silver Tier Witch. She does indeed need Dragon Scales... but the ones she needs are from the Mad Dragon itself!"
’Dragon Scales from the Mad Dragon?’
Baron froze.
"The Dragon Witch was never just collecting Red Dragon Scales. In fact, she began working with the Dragon Eater Association as far back as World War II."
"Our arrangement back then was simple. She gave us the Alchemy Secret Technique, ’Dragon Heart Forging,’ and in return, we collected Dragon Scales for her—from all Pure-blood Ancient Dragons and stronger. Not just Red Dragon Scales, but the scales of every Pure-blood Ancient Dragon with the blood of the Dragon God."
"Her stated reason was to resurrect the Dragon God Pulansantos, but the Chairman and I both knew it was a ruse. No man can fathom the thoughts of a woman, much less an elusive Witch like her."
Elder Pence’s voice grew low. In a corner of the *Golden Grassland* that the Dragon Knight had yet to notice, one of the Elder’s phantoms brandished a sword. Under the cover of the Domain, it crept stealthily toward the Dragon Knight’s back.
"At first, we didn’t know what she was truly after. But just now, when I witnessed the ritual the Dragon Witch performed at Traitor’s Cliff, I finally understood. It’s all connected to the War of Law from ten thousand years ago and the truth behind the Dragon God’s fall."
Elder Pence stared intently at the Dragon Knight’s Golden Eyes, searching for any flicker of emotion, but he was disappointed. The Dragon Knight’s gaze remained clear and serene, as tranquil as the sky after sunrise.
He enunciated every word. "The Dragon Witch does intend to resurrect the Dragon God... but not so he can return to the world and restore the Dragon Race to its former glory. What she wants... is to usurp the Dragon God, seize control of the Dragon Law, and become a new deity herself!"
The words echoed in Baron’s mind.
’The Dragon Witch wants to usurp the Dragon God...’
Baron had to admit the news had stunned him for a moment.
Elder Pence said, "And that’s not all. I can tell you more secrets, both those you seek and those you’ve never even dreamed of—if you’re willing."
"I can tell you why the Dragon Eater Association wants to release the Mad Dragon. I can tell you the location of the Red Dragon’s remains on the Constantine Family’s Plains."
"I can tell you that the Dragon Eater Association doesn’t worship the Dragon God, but the Immortal Goddess..."
"The Immortal Goddess..." the Dragon Knight repeated.
"Yes, the Immortal Goddess... She granted us Fire and an undying heart."
Elder Pence thumped his chest and slowly straightened his back. His expression was calm, but his eyes burned with fervor.
"We fight for the Immortal and the eternal... The Mad Dragon brings not destruction, but eternal Madness. When Madness has infected the entire world, our goddess will awaken from her eternity and bring the ultimate gift of immortality to all humans and creatures."
"We call this plan the ’Immortal Descent’."
As everyone watched in astonishment, the Phantom Knight appeared behind Baron.
Someone tried to cry out a warning, but before a sound could escape their lips, the Phantom Knight swung its sword viciously at the Dragon Knight!
"So..." Elder Pence began, looking at the Dragon Knight.
"So let’s go to Hell together," Baron said, suddenly grabbing Elder Pence in a tight embrace, like a drowning man clinging to a life raft.
As for the Phantom Knight’s descending sword, it was caught in the jaws of dozens of Little Fire Dragons that appeared, flapping their wings.
!!!!
Elder Pence tried to fight back, but his body couldn’t muster any strength... No, it wasn’t a lack of strength. It was as if some strange will was preventing him from even trying to resist.
Without a doubt, the only person capable of suppressing him with willpower alone was the Dragon Knight standing before him. But Elder Pence simply couldn’t fathom how he was doing it.
His every impulse to use his Spiritual Power was being suppressed. It was a suppression that even he, a Silver Tier, was powerless to resist. This could only mean one thing: Baron’s Divine Soul was far stronger than his own. ’But he’s just a Bronze!!!’
’It doesn’t matter what Pure-blood Ancient Dragon he’s contracted with or that he’s holding the Golden Dragon Spear—he’s still just a Bronze... and I’m a Silver!’
"Baron Constantin... What do you think you’re doing?"
For the first time, panic appeared on Elder Pence’s face. "I still have so many secrets you want to know! The reason the Witch placed your Blood Covenant on the Mad Dragon is that she chose you to be her Adam! The Old Blood of the Constantine Family allows you to master two professions under the same Law! I can help you become a Faith Knight, too!"
Elder Pence saw the Dragon Knight retrieve the Golden Dragon Spear with his Spiritual Power. Before the Elder could react, the spear—its Dragon Flame now extinguished—plunged through Baron Constantin’s chest and then viciously pierced his own heart.
His eyes flew wide.
Everyone present stared, their eyes so wide they looked ready to pop from their sockets.
’Didn’t the Golden Dragon Spear fail to harm Elder Pence before? What... what is going on?’
Elder Pence stared in disbelief at the Dragon Spear protruding from his chest. It had gone through the Dragon Knight’s back to pierce his own heart. The shadow of death slowly crept across his handsome face, a face still in its prime.
"This power... It’s impossible... It’s the blood!"
He suddenly remembered something! His pupils shrank to pinpricks. "The reason that member of the Blood Race was at the auction... it was you... You’re in league with her... Impossible..."
An expression of disbelief, the same one Roy had worn, crossed Elder Pence’s face. But Baron didn’t let him finish, manipulating blood to choke off his words.
Elder Pence tried to use his Spiritual Power to stop Baron Constantin, but that tyrannical will completely suppressed his ability to use his Promise.
His face twisted into a snarl as he, too, manifested lion claws and began tearing at the Dragon Knight’s body.
But the Dragon Knight paid it no mind, instead tightening his embrace as if to snap the Elder’s bones. He carried Pence as he broke through the Domain, sprinting madly toward Traitor’s Cliff.
Along the way, Law Enforcers who had received orders from the Elders and higher-ups to intercept him were frozen in place by a single glance. Some even scrambled back in panic, as if terrified Elder Pence’s blood might splash onto them.
Elder Pence was frantic. He had no idea what the Dragon Knight intended to do to him, but he knew it couldn’t possibly be good.
In his panic, he traced a golden circle in the air with his hand.
The circle began to expand, like a sun rising to hang high in the midday sky.
The Lancelot Family Head stared blankly at the golden sun. "Promise Summoning..."
Contract Summoning is another important ability mastered by Silver Knights. It allows them to summon their Contracted Beast in a form made of pure Spiritual Power. Although it’s only a spiritual projection, its combat strength is at least half that of the original’s, depending on the total Spiritual Power of the Contract Knight.
The Silver Lion King Leos, summoned by Wilder, was one such example. That was why, after being killed by the Dragon Witch in her Red Dragon form, its body dissipated back into Spiritual Power.
And as for what Elder Pence, a Golden Lion Knight, could summon... that went without saying.
Everyone held their breath, watching the golden sun float slowly into the sky.
