Chapter 522 - 287: The Return of the Dragon Knight (Part 1)

She stood barefoot on the most prominent Talisman Stone at the cliff’s edge, gazing quietly into the fog-shrouded Abyss. She spoke, enunciating each word, "A selfish person who longs to live but doesn’t know how."

"It’s not the same," Baron said, still holding his weapon ready. His ferocious, bestial form receded as his Spiritual Power faded, and the rugged Spear Sword returned to its original appearance.

He said, "I’m not sparing you because I’m afraid to die. I’m sparing you because I want to hear the answers from your own lips."

"Answers? What answers do you want?" Carmen didn’t turn around, her voice laced with mockery. "Whether the Blood Covenant decides if we live or die? Why I released the Mad Dragon? Whether I’m truly on the same side as the Dragon Eater Association? Or is it what you asked before: why I made you a Dragon Knight?"

Carmen glanced over her shoulder and sneered at Baron. "Remember this, Baron Constantin: for a Witch, lying is a simple matter."

Baron simply asked, "Back at that ball... why did you ask me to dance?"

For the first time, a look of astonishment crossed Carmen’s face. She clearly hadn’t expected Baron to ask such a question.

But she quickly recovered her usual mysterious and elegant Witch persona. "That was KK," she said simply. "As long as she doesn’t interfere with my mission, I generally let her do as she pleases."

Baron said, "Is that your explanation?"

Carmen looked at Baron’s dazzling Golden Eye. "Will you really pull the trigger? If I’m not mistaken, you’re rather fond of my other personality, KK, aren’t you?"

"Mr. Constantine..." The Witch’s expression shifted, her entire demeanor instantly changing to that of the girlish KK.

Baron just watched in silence. "You’re lying to me. You never had a dual personality. This story about a different spirit growing from the Red Dragon’s Soul is just something you made up."

"Mr. Constantine, what are you talking about? I’m KK! Carmen did all those things. She and I are two completely different people," the Witch said. "Have you forgotten?"

Just then, a shrill cry echoed from the sky as a large flock of Celestial Horses appeared at one end of the blood moon.

They were reinforcements sent by the Templar Knights.

A Knight in silver-white armor led them, and Baron’s superhuman vision allowed him to recognize Silver Lion Wilder at a glance.

But they weren’t alone. On the other side of the blood moon, a large group of people appeared on broomsticks. Arriving even before them were the multicolored spells of Magic cast from their waving Magic Staffs.

The Dragon Descendants, Dragon Attendants, and Cultists who had Transformed into a Dragon, all of whom had been gathered below Traitor’s Cliff, scattered and fled from the onslaught of Magic.

They were the Wizards from the Welsh Wizard Academy.

At the same time, another group of people emerged at the foot of the mountain.

It was none other than the Law Enforcers, led by Elder Pence.

In the crowd, Wizard Hilde pointed up the mountain. "The Dragon Witch! And the Dragon Knight! They’re both here!"

The massive crowd surged toward Baron Constantin and Carmen.

Carmen said, "What will you do now, Mr. Dragon Knight? Avenge your friend from Westminster Cathedral? Or will you go back to scurrying and hiding like a rat?"

Carmen tilted her head, her true Witch nature showing through. "Then again, I’m quite fond of rats. They have so many Natural Enemies, yet they still manage to survive just fine in the end, don’t they?"

She said, "In truth, Constantine, you and I are both rats. As kin, we should have been standing together from the very beginning. They all want you dead. I’m different."

"I just want to see how you manage to stay alive."

BANG.

A flash of fire erupted from the muzzle.

Her smile froze. The light in her rose-gold pupils instantly dimmed.

"I don’t owe you anything anymore,"

she said abruptly.

Then, she took one last, sweet breath of air, tilted her head back, and her body tumbled over the edge of the cliff.

At that moment, all the newly arrived Law Enforcers froze, staring at each other in bewilderment. They clearly didn’t understand how events had taken such a sudden turn.

For a moment, they were so stunned they forgot why they had come.

"Did the Dragon Knight... just kill the Dragon Witch?"

"I think... he did?"

"But weren’t they supposed to be on the same side? What does this mean...?"

But before they could discuss the reasons why, Traitor’s Cliff began to tremble violently. A deafening roar echoed up from the Abyss below, sounding like the exhalation of some colossal creature.

The Wizard K, disguised in a body resembling Wilder’s, reacted instantly. He quickly gathered the other arriving Wizards into a formation to begin reinforcing the Mad Dragon Seal.

Elder Pence glanced at the crumbling Talisman Stones around them and narrowed his eyes almost imperceptibly. Then he roared, "Lawbreaker Baron Constantin has assaulted and killed a Law Enforcer! He colluded with the Dragon Witch! He stole the Golden Dragon Spear of the Beowulf Family! And he intends to release the Mad Dragon of Traitor’s Cliff! For these numerous crimes, he is to be executed according to the law!"

He swiftly rallied the newly arrived Law Enforcers, urging them to hunt down Baron Constantin and offering a host of tempting promises and rewards.

Unable to resist the temptation, some of the Law Enforcers charged toward the lone figure on the cliff.

But just then, a flash of red light streaked past, and a long red spear embedded itself in the path of the advancing Law Enforcers.

To the clear, crisp chiming of bells, a heroic figure with flowing purple hair and a chillingly fierce aura pulled the Red Spear from the ground. She stood before Baron, holding it horizontally. "I’d like to see who dares!"

Isabella Beowulf, eldest daughter of the Beowulf Family.

Seeing this legendary Dragon Slayer, the Law Enforcers instinctively halted.

"Eldest Daughter!" The Dragon Slayers of the Beowulf Family arrived soon after. Their breath caught in their throats when they saw the scene. "Eldest Daughter, you can’t! Baron Constantin is a Lawbreaker!"

Isabella said coolly, "But he is also the Dragon Knight who drew the Golden Dragon Spear. According to our ancestral teachings, the one who draws the Dragon Spear becomes the Patriarch of the Beowulf Family!"

Hearing this, the Dragon Slayers gritted their teeth, drew their weapons, and took their places by Isabella’s side.

Wizard Hilde let his obsessive gaze linger on Isabella’s exquisite figure for a moment before stepping forward to speak:

"Miss Isabella! Do you intend to defy the justice of the Prole Court to protect this Lawbreaker, Baron Constantin?"

Isabella replied coolly, "Baron Constantin has already proven his innocence. Everyone saw him kill the Dragon Witch, so the accusation of colluding with her is naturally void."

"As for Elder Pence’s other accusations, they are nothing but baseless slander!"

Isabella stated icily, "Elder Pence has yet to completely clear his own name. I find it hard to believe that an Elder from a family whose own Direct Lineage includes Dragon Devourer Cultists could possibly be an upright Wise One."

Seeing the topic turn to him, Elder Pence snorted inwardly and stepped forward slowly.

"Since Miss Isabella believes I may be a suspect, then by all means, let Mr. Wilder apprehend both me and Baron Constantin."

"How does that proposal sound, Eldest Daughter of the Beowulf Family?"

Hearing Elder Pence’s proposed solution, the Law Enforcers thought it seemed somewhat reasonable.

But Isabella merely sneered. "Everyone knows that your Hestia Family is one of the four great Judgement families of the Prole Court. It would be far too easy for you to influence the verdict."

Elder Pence: "Then what you’re suggesting is..."

"Let Baron Constantin leave. We can discuss the rest later."

"I’m sorry, but I cannot agree to that. Baron Constantin has committed numerous evils. He must be eliminated for the good of the people of the Inner Side."

Elder Pence’s gaze turned cold as he gave the order, "Seize him!"

Thinking of the generous rewards and conditions, the Law Enforcers gritted their teeth and charged.

Isabella led the Dragon Slayers in a fierce battle against the Law Enforcers. Even wounded and surrounded, she held her own.

In the crowd, every man watching cast an envious gaze toward the man with the Golden Eye on the mountaintop.
