Chapter 471 261: Have You Done It with Him?

Many others, however, had no major emotional fluctuations. Although they were also affected, the innermost thoughts they revealed were, at most, arrogant remarks like "What are you looking at?" or "So what if I am?" that were perfectly in line with their usual personas. Therefore, they didn't act out of character.

Then there were those who were the most severely affected. Their behavior was a veritable reenactment of human survival throughout various historical periods.

The most classic example was Adam of the Van Helsing Family... He, along with the female Blood Race member who had been hiding at the auction, drew away some of the event's security personnel.

He had transformed into a Werewolf, thrown the noble young lady who had told him to act like a dog onto his back, and smashed through a window that had been reinforced with an Enhanced Enchantment by an Alchemist before fleeing... According to the members of the Van Helsing Family, the pursuing Law Enforcers needed to be extremely fast. Otherwise, given a Werewolf's nature, the young noblewoman would most likely be torn to shreds by an Adam who had lost all reason—or they might end up in a marriage alliance.

As for why some Law Enforcers were curious that Adam Van Helsing's deepest desire was to be a dog for that noble lady, the Van Helsing Family representative's response was simple: "You don't need to understand the minds of the Wolf Sect's Demon Hunters."

"The great direct heir of the Van Helsing Family, willingly acting like a dog for a woman from another clan... News like this is unparalleled in the entire Inner Side. I imagine the Van Helsing Family would be more than willing to pay a handsome price for this Magic Card."

Barbara said, turning to Freya. Then she paused. "Miss Freya, you don't look quite right. Are you feeling unwell?"

Freya touched the necklace at her chest, forcing a smile. "It's nothing. I just suddenly find everything here... disgusting."

"Disgusting?" Barbara said. "But people are inherently such hypocritical creatures. For example, as I'm standing here with you now, can you tell whether I like you or despise you?"

Freya's eyes swept over Barbara, her gaze lingering for a moment on the other woman's full chest and shapely hips before she spoke. "At least I can say I neither dislike nor like Miss Barbara."

"But I like you a great deal, Miss Freya," Barbara said with a smile. "You're sufficiently frank, and quite beautiful... And I believe we might have some common ground."

"Jill...? He's a fine fiancé," Freya said.

'But all that depends on him being completely unaware of Fla, Anthony, and the Dragon Eater Association.'

When she recalled what Anthony had told her, Freya felt an indescribable fear on top of her shock.

'Fla... Why was her mother, a woman she had never even met, named Fla?'

Barbara shook her head. "Not Jill. I think discussing my brother with you, his fiancée, would be an incredibly boring affair."

"Especially since he's such an exceptionally dull person."

'If not Jill, then who? Freya truly couldn't imagine what she could possibly have in common with the Inner Side's most famous socialite.'

'Makeup? Designer clothes and bags? Magic Cards and Magic Staffs? Surely not... other men?'

At this thought, Freya's long brows furrowed. She certainly did not consider herself a frivolous woman.

Breaking off the engagement was one thing, but her family, the Lancelots, was a Knight Clan—and one capable of signing a Blood Covenant with the Silver Lion Race. Their family ethos could be described as nothing less than strict and restrained.

As for the woman who would technically be her future sister-in-law, Freya felt neither liking nor dislike. However, she had long heard tales of the woman's amorous reputation throughout the Inner Side, which was why she was displeased by her current line of questioning.

Barbara seemed to read Freya's mind and simply smiled. "Baron Constantin."

Freya stiffened.

"I'm very interested in him," Barbara said. "I'm aware he killed your brother, Anthony, Miss Freya. And I know it's terribly improper of me to say this while you're still technically my brother's fiancée... but I still want to ask."

She looked at Freya, tilting her head as a few strands of hair fell loose at her temples.

Her tone was casual, as if she were mentioning something utterly trivial. But to Freya, the words landed with the weight of a mountain, striking like a thunderbolt that shattered the air.

"Have you slept with him?"

Freya was dumbfounded.

Barbara nodded. "I see."

She smiled. "I was just asking. Don't worry, this isn't some kind of pre-wedding chastity test from an Old Blood Clan. I wish you and my brother all the best."

She gave Freya a slight curtsy.

By the time Freya recovered from Barbara's startling question, she heard a great commotion coming from the direction of the crowd.

She looked over and saw Isabella arriving with a group of Law Enforcers, who were frog-marching several people forward.

Isabella had the Law Enforcers throw the individuals onto the ground, and the officers quickly surrounded them.

The prisoners were all dead. She hadn't killed them; rather, the Blood Control had made them lose control of their emotions. In their delirium, some had subconsciously revealed their identities as members of the Dragon Eater Association.

However, it seemed they had been placed under some kind of curse, as they had all died violently the very instant their connection to the Dragon Eater Association was revealed.

According to an analysis by a Wizard from the Merlin Clan who was part of the team, this was likely a kind of Faith Blood Oath.

She didn't look at Elder Pence, who was, strictly speaking, the highest-ranking person present. Instead, she addressed Silver Lion Wilder.

"They're all Cultists from the Dragon Eater Association. They were lying in ambush around the auction house. Their strength was roughly equivalent to that of Black Iron Tier Silver Demon Hunters. Two of them were high-ranking officials serving in London City."

Elder Pence's eyes flickered, and he interjected, "Isn't it obvious? The Dragon Eater Association worships the Dragon Witch. It's possible their appearance here was the Witch's doing."
