Chapter 442 246: I Want the Red Dragon Reverse Scale
The Big-Eyed Monster said calmly, "That is why I advise you not to provoke Destiny. Once you draw Its attention, even one as powerful as the Great Lord can only fall into a deep slumber."
'Should I tell the Big-Eyed Monster about the Lucky Goddess Necklace I have on me?' Baron wondered. But when he saw the dense, trypophobia-inducing cluster of eyes surrounding the creature, he ultimately dismissed the idea. He was paranoid, after all.
"But your question reminds me," the Big-Eyed Monster said. "Your body carries not only the aura of the Dream Master but also those of several other deities who do not exist on the Inner Side."
"This means you have already been to Dreamland Prole. Although everything there is merely a dream, it does hold several sealed deities, which could still attract Destiny's attention."
Before Baron could even try to understand why Prole was called Dreamland and why everything there was a dream, he saw a speck of golden light drift down from the very center of the giant, starry eye. As it entered his body, it transformed into a strange, warm current.
"Use your Spiritual Vision. Untangle those divine auras."
He didn't need to be told. The moment the strange, warm current began to surge through his body, he had already activated his Spiritual Vision, imagining a third eye opening in his mind to inspect his condition.
But this "Spiritual Vision" was vastly different from before. He could see with much greater clarity.
The key to Spiritual Vision had never been Spiritual Power, but Mental Power. Even when Baron advanced from Black Iron to Silver, his Mental Power hadn't increased by much because, according to the Soul School, it was something determined at birth.
Yet now, Baron was almost certain that as the warm current coursed through his body like a serpent, everything he saw with his "Spiritual Vision" grew progressively clearer. He could see beyond his Spiritual Power now, even perceiving the divine auras that shrouded it from a deeper level.
'The red one is probably the Blood God... I'm part of the Blood Faction, and I used to curse him whenever I was bored, so it makes sense that I'd carry some of his aura.'
'The white one is probably the Dream Master... This ball of white mist feels intoxicating, which certainly fits the whole "dreaming" theme.'
'The green one... could it be the Dragon God? No, it doesn't feel like him. If I had to guess, it feels more like... the Immortal Goddess? When did I attract her attention? Could it be because of those Immortals I killed back in Fude City?'
'And... a multi-colored one? Wait, why is there a multi-colored presence? Don't tell me this means I'm being targeted by a whole bunch of gods?'
"Use your hands to tuck those auras away into the depths," the Big-Eyed Monster said again.
Baron was just wondering, 'What hands? What depths?'
He then "saw," in accordance with his thoughts, a pair of his own hands grab these assorted, motley divine auras and stuff them into the "depths."
He felt his thoughts suddenly become much clearer. Things he had subconsciously *ignored* or that had been *obscured* from him flooded back into his memory.
Baron released his Spiritual Vision. Just as he was about to ask the Big-Eyed Monster why he had such a motley collection of divine auras, he felt a wave of exhaustion emanating from the Golden Dragon Pattern on his arm.
'This starry expanse probably can't be maintained for much longer,' he instantly realized.
Sure enough, the Big-Eyed Monster simply said, "Remember your mission," and kicked Baron out of the starry expanse.
"As for how to resurrect the Emperor and collect the Dragon Law... to avoid Destiny's gaze, I can only tell you this: you must rely solely on your instincts."
The Big-Eyed Monster's booming voice, like a great bell, resounded in his ears. "The Red Dragon Reverse Scale... Its Red Dragon Aura can help you unlock the second Golden Dragon Pattern... You must remember, an Ancient Dragon's reverse scale will make the Golden Dragon Pattern on your arm begin to transform."
The hostess's recitation stopped, and Baron awoke from the strange, starry expanse within the Dragon Spear. He immediately heard her explain the runes' meaning in English. It was something along the lines of: "The Dragon God exists throughout history. Each of his returns shall bring both rebirth and destruction."
'First the Dragon Spear, now a dream, both telling me to resurrect someone. At this rate, it wouldn't be surprising if some subordinate of the Great Lord himself grabbed me and told me to resurrect him... Is Destiny really that terrifying? Come to think of it, as a dragon abandoned by Destiny, wouldn't a Red Dragon be a precious treasure, like a panda, in the eyes of these Ancient and Old Gods?'
Baron hadn't yet fully snapped out of his conversation with the Big-Eyed Monster when he heard a nurse in the front row, who was pushing a wheelchair, raise a bidding paddle. Her voice was clear and melodious.
"Twenty-one million!"
Baron looked over and was surprised to see that the bidder was none other than Andy, the Dragon Demon Hunter who had recently been making waves in the Demon Hunter Association.
He had met the man before at Freya's engagement party. Although Andy was now confined to a wheelchair with his entire body wrapped in bandages, Baron still recognized him.
Baron managed to identify him by certain features—or rather, by using his superhuman hearing to eavesdrop on the surrounding conversations.
Andy's bid kicked off a new wave of offers. The calls of raising bids rose and fell throughout the hall, one after another.
Baron even saw the representative of the Constantine Clan—that good-for-nothing cousin of his, Pound—raise his paddle to join the auction.
'Even in decline, the Constantine Family can still casually toss around tens of millions of pounds. So this is the so-called heritage of the Inner Side's Old Blood?'
Baron recalled the Big-Eyed Monster's instructions... the Red Dragon Reverse Scale could unlock the second Golden Dragon Pattern.
The first Golden Dragon Pattern allowed him to coat the tip of his Dragon Spear with the venom of the Poison Dragon Glanville. It also had the ability to absorb other toxins, making it something of a universal antidote.
'In that case, the second pattern's effect must be impressive as well,' Baron thought. 'This is probably why the Big-Eyed Monster suddenly pulled me into that starry expanse and insisted I get the Red Dragon Reverse Scale.'
But the problem was... Baron frowned. He might be an SS Level agent certified by Westminster Bank, a Bronze Tier Dragon Knight, and a prospective Bronze Blood Faction Demon Hunter, but... he was broke.
Well, broke compared to the other guests at this auction. The paltry sum he had on hand wasn't even enough to make a single bid.
'Looks like I might really have to follow in that guy Jack's footsteps and become the Inner Side's infamous "Taboo Item Thief,"' he mused.
It wasn't that Baron was concerned about his pride; it was just that he still had to find Vivian later, and carrying around a stolen Red Dragon Reverse Scale would be an added complication.
Besides, the Attendant presenting the Dragon Scale wasn't Jack in disguise this time, so pulling off an inside job would be difficult.
'I'll just have to find another chance... No, it looks like even that last chance is gone.'
Baron watched as the Demon Hunter Andy won the bid for the Red Dragon Reverse Scale at the horrifying price of thirty-two million pounds. The hostess's gavel struck the block twice...
"Thirty-five million," a woman's voice called out from beside him.
Baron instinctively glanced at Isabella, but she was completely still. It wasn't her.
He then turned to look at Freya.
He froze for a moment.
But it wasn't because of Freya. It was the woman beside her—the one who had previously sent him a telepathic message, offering to be his mistress.
The Inner Side's famous socialite, Miss Barbara Hestia, held up her paddle and said in a soft, coquettish voice:
"Thirty-five million. I want this Red Dragon Reverse Scale."
Barbara's sudden bid stunned everyone. It wasn't just the other guests who were surprised; even the members of the Hestia Family were dumbfounded.
After all, the Red Dragon Reverse Scale had been donated by the Hestia Family itself. For Barbara, the Legitimate Daughter of the Hestia Family, to bid on it... Was the Hestia Family dissatisfied with the price and sending one of their own to drive it higher?
