Chapter 437 - 244: The Hateful Constantine
"That’s not necessarily true," Jiang Ge sneered. "Contract Knights are subject to their Contractor’s Status Suppression, but my faith is ironclad. The so-called Dragon Knight Constantine wouldn’t have any advantage over me at all."
"What’s more, there are distinctions even within the Bronze Tier. If I recall correctly, the Trial Takers at Dragon Spear Plaza were all under thirty. Even if one was a prodigy who reached the Bronze Tier at twenty-four or twenty-five, that’s only five or six years of experience. I, on the other hand, have been at the Bronze Tier for twelve years, ever since I reached it at twenty-three."
Jiang Ge said honestly, "Those Trial Takers only suffered because they were unprepared and far too green. On top of that, the Ancient Dragon Constantine is contracted to resides in the Dracul Mountain Range. He only managed to pull that off because he held all the advantages.
If I had been there, the outcome would not have necessarily been the same."
If Baron were here, he could probably have discerned this Faith Knight’s meaning: even though they were all Bronze Tier, none had been at this tier as long as he had. If it came to a real fight, he would use his many years of rich combat experience in the Bronze Tier to crush his opponent’s inexperience.
Of course, the people of the Inner Side weren’t fools. It was common knowledge that the Old Race were physically superior to ordinary people, and Law Enforcers were superior to the Old Race, so their five senses were also relatively sharper. Add to that the fact that Jiang Ge hadn’t deliberately lowered his voice, and his words were heard by many of the Law Enforcers who were paying attention to this bidding war.
Because of Honesty, one of the Eight Virtues, Faith Knights only speak what they believe to be true. So, this was indeed what Jiang Ge thought of the Trial Takers from Dragon Spear Plaza. To put it bluntly—they were the ones who were too weak, so they couldn’t blame their opponent for being too strong.
"Are all the guys from the Holy Cross Association that arrogant! They have no idea how terrifying Constantine is! Isn’t that right, Cousin Dewey!"
Zick said indignantly, "Even a genius like you could only last a hundred rounds against the Dragon Knight under the pressure of his Golden Eye. I really don’t know how a guy like that became a Faith Knight who’s supposed to uphold the Eight Virtues."
Seeing the suspicious look from Gold beside him and Kesha’s thoughtful gaze, Dewey—who had been taken down in a single blow by Constantine at Dragon Spear Plaza as a mere afterthought, held hostage, and then kept his mouth shut about avenging his "cheap" little brother Bill after returning—coughed once and said:
"The Holy Cross Association is a lot like the Wizards’ London Tower; they both follow an elite path. In a fight between equals, the Status Suppression that Contract Knights normally possess really doesn’t work on Faith Knights."
Gold said, "That’s just how the Faith Knights of the Holy Cross Association are... Because their heads are filled with nothing but the Eight Knightly Virtues, they’ve abandoned all the other virtues—like smoking, drinking, and visiting brothels."
Kesha rolled her eyes. "You’re describing the qualities of a Demon Hunter."
"Close enough," Gold said. "However, Mr. Jiang Ge did have a point. Back at Dragon Spear Plaza, we lost because we weren’t fully prepared, and also because he had a Pure-blood Ancient Dragon backing him up.
If we had another chance—let’s say Baron Constantin was right here in this auction house—there’s no way he could escape our net this time..."
As he said this, he completely failed to notice that the Attendant of Lancelot’s Legitimate Daughter, who was sitting in front of him, suddenly twitched.
......
"Why doesn’t a Contract Knight’s Status Suppression work on a Faith Knight?"
The culprit himself, Baron, after eavesdropping on the conversation behind him, sent a Spiritual Power transmission to Isabella. He felt his eldest daughter should know more about this than he did.
His eldest daughter sent a Spiritual Power reply: "A Faith Knight can be seen as a type of Contract Knight, just with many more restrictions."
Baron fell silent for a moment, then understood instantly.
’In other words, a Faith Knight’s very Faith can be seen as a contract with a high-Tier entity. The objects of their faith have to be at least Ancient God Level, so a Contract Knight could only exert suppression if they were contracted to one of the Three Great Dragon Kings—a being close to the Ancient God Level. Anything less than that would be completely useless.’
’Speaking of which, what tier is the Red Dragon? As the Dragon God’s personal Guard, she doesn’t have a specific title... Her position feels a bit vague.’
’Still, judging by the fact that the Pure-blood Ancient Dragon Wax Dragon Bad dared to challenge the Red Dragon to a one-on-one fight, her Tier must be lower than a Dragon King’s. I hear dragons are belligerent by nature. One of the Dragon Kings, the Black Dragon Nidhogg, is still gnawing on the roots of the World Tree, so why haven’t I heard about Wax Dragon Bad going to challenge him?’
Baron could only come up with this much after thinking for a long while, but he didn’t notice that as the surrounding conversations unfolded, the gazes of Isabella Lucy and Freya had all settled on him.
Whenever the people around them talked about the Dragon Knight Constantine, they would inevitably look at this Attendant.
Barbara noticed this. Her Spirit Charm eyes shifted, and a guess had already formed in her mind.
This guess made her subconsciously bite her indescribable lips, an involuntary and indescribable expression appearing on her indescribable face! Indescribable? Indescribable! She was indescribable!
The noblewoman next to her noticed this and subconsciously asked what was wrong, but Barbara just said she suddenly remembered something and had to go to the restroom, then got up and left.
The noblewoman found this a bit strange and subconsciously glanced at the spot where Barbara had been sitting. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt there was something... indescribable... about it?
............
At this moment, the auction hall fell into chaos because of Jiang Ge’s remarks.
A Law Enforcer who had participated in several of the encirclement operations against Constantine said:
