Chapter 423 - 237: Promotion to the Bronze Blood Faction?
’This woman is one thing, but to drag me into her little war...’ Baron glanced at Freya, who was beside him.
Freya snorted coldly but still stepped forward to intervene.
’This damned chain...’ she mentally cursed the dog chain around her neck. One of its side effects was that she could understand Baron’s simple commands through eye contact alone.
It was exactly like a dog reading its master’s commands.
The feeling was absolutely wretched.
Seeing Freya step in to intervene, Isabella’s elegant eyes narrowed slightly before she spoke directly:
"So what? As long as this gentleman is willing, forget ordinary women—I wouldn’t mind throwing myself at him either."
Some of the surrounding guests, who were sipping red wine served by Attendants, couldn’t hold it in and spat out their drinks.
Facing the stares of the others, these ladies and gentlemen awkwardly claimed nothing was wrong; they had simply drunk too fast.
This group included a guest sent by Jill to secretly eavesdrop; the rest were simply onlookers enjoying the drama—after all, who doesn’t love a good show?
Miss Barbara said with a smile, "To have caught the eye of Miss Eldest of the Beowulf Family, it seems you’re quite lucky with the ladies, sir."
Baron: "..."
Although he knew it was disrespectful for an Attendant like him not to answer a question from his betters, he truly had no idea how to respond.
After all, his personal dictionary now contained only three entries:
"Revenge," "Escape," and "Money."
Thankfully, Barbara didn’t press him. She suddenly moved past Freya, who had been about to explain on his behalf. A fragrant scent washed over him, her breath like an orchid’s. With a touch as light as a dragonfly skimming water, Baron felt a sudden moisture on his cheek, and in the next moment, Isabella drew her Long Saber.
This sudden scene made the surrounding noble ladies and wealthy gentlemen, who had just picked up their wine glasses again, lose their composure once more. The red wine they had been holding in their mouths to ease the previous awkwardness came spraying out again.
Barbara of the Hestia Family, whose beauty was legendary, had actually kissed a nobody!!! This was huge news!!!
"Mr. Ji’er... what is your sister doing...?" Silver Lion Wilder, who was seated with Jill, asked curiously.
Jill maintained a smile as pleasant as a spring breeze. "It’s nothing serious. Just one of my older sister’s little hobbies."
Wilder nodded, pretending not to notice the sound of gritted teeth behind Jill’s words.
"Miss Barbara, what is the meaning of this?" Isabella’s slender eyebrows shot up, and the Long Saber in her hand glinted with a cold light.
Her posture convinced everyone around them that if Barbara didn’t provide an answer, the saber would truly flash across the Extremely Enchanting Witch’s long, snow-white neck.
Freya showed no reaction. She clearly hadn’t recovered from Barbara’s sudden kiss to Baron, either.
Baron, however, had come to his senses. He wiped the lipstick from his face. There was none of the ecstasy a typical man might feel after being kissed by such a beauty; instead, his brow was tightly furrowed as he began to mentally dissect the hidden meaning behind Barbara’s actions.
’A plain, unremarkable face like mine could never attract a woman like her. The only possibility is that this famous socialite of the Inner Side, much like Isabella, has seen through my identity.’
Isabella said coolly, "Miss Barbara, an act like this brings a certain amount of disgrace to both the Hestia and Petrel Families, does it not?"
Facing the Long Saber offered by Isabella, Barbara simply smiled. Paired with her flirtatious and impossibly charming face, even that simple smile seemed to carry an indecipherable meaning:
"Are you very concerned about this gentleman, Miss Beowulf?"
Isabella replied coolly, "I simply don’t wish to see an innocent man be deceived by a woman."
Freya’s anger flared the moment she heard that. ’Who does she think she’s talking about?’
But after seeing a signal from Baron, she held herself back. Barbara, meanwhile, let out a soft chuckle. After a light, bewitching laugh, she said:
"Miss Eldest, you’re quite the passionate one. But I must tell you, this isn’t deception... sir."
She looked at Baron, an unnatural blush appearing on her lovely face, as radiant as a begonia. She bit her lip in a gesture of feigned reluctance.
"This kiss means I’m quite taken with you. It’s also a special mark I’ve left just for you."
’An Alchemy Rune for tracking?’
Alarm bells rang in Baron’s mind. He hurriedly wiped the lipstick off with the handkerchief from his breast pocket, then washed his face with a bottle of mineral water he had on him.
Barbara was stunned. Isabella sheathed her saber, her tone cold. "It seems Miss Hestie overestimated her appeal to men."
The men listening in on the exchange bent over awkwardly, pretending to look for something on the floor, their bodies curled up like cooked shrimp.
At that moment, Zick Frank, who was sitting behind the women, could only think one word: ’Impossible.’ He glanced at his cousin, Dewey Frank, only to see that his expression was also strained. He, too, had likely not recovered from the fact that Baron had just been kissed by the Legitimate Daughter of the Hestia Family.
’What is going on? She drew her saber on the Legitimate Daughter of the Hestia Family for an Attendant? Don’t tell me the eldest daughter of the Beowulf Family has taken a liking to him? This is just too unbelievable, isn’t it?’
Zick’s expression was grim. If one had to describe it, it was like waking up naked to find a hand drawing circles on his chest, then turning his head, only to see a bearded, equally naked man lying beside him.
Zick muttered in a low voice, "There’s something uncanny about this Attendant... How... It’s so strange."
What he really wanted to say was, ’Why are so many beautiful women with slender waists, long legs, and fair skin fighting over him?’ But considering that Isabella, the Eldest Daughter, and even Freya were Law Enforcers, he figured they might overhear his snide comment, so he held his tongue.
