Westminster Bank
Chapter 421 - 236: Enjoying the Feeling of Being Fought Over by Women (2)
From the moment he stepped out of the car at the auction house entrance until now, sitting in the center of the venue, the few times his heart had quickened had nothing to do with the Blood Covenant. For instance, his heart was racing right now because Isabella and Freya were trading barbs across him.
Just then, he noticed another small commotion in the venue. He followed the crowd’s gaze and saw, under the warm halo of the lights, a woman with sparkling eyes and a slender figure enter, clad entirely in black gauze.
Baron recognized this woman. It was Kasha, an S Level specialist from Westminster Bank.
"For someone from Westminster to dare attend the auction... and a legendary S Level specialist at that... It seems the Taboo Items stolen from my Beowulf Family won’t be for sale this time."
Isabella said this suddenly, her gaze landing on Baron as she spoke.
Baron’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He realized that the eldest daughter might have already seen through his disguise.
He replied, "I imagine they will be returned to their rightful owner soon."
Isabella smiled but said nothing.
Lucy, however, said, "I *am* the rightful owner. I hope those Taboo Items will appear directly in my room then."
’Returned to their rightful owner? What are they talking about?’
Freya was a little confused, but in the end, she just shook her head and didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she turned her gaze toward Elder Pence... Elder Pence was gone.
She looked at Baron.
Baron nodded. He had also noticed that Elder Pence had vanished. Recalling the news he’d learned while posing as the association president at the Monastery, his heart sank.
’Has the Dragon Eater Association already made its move?’
Things had been rushed before. He’d had Jack inform the major Law Enforcement Organizations and Old Blood Clans of the Inner Side, but there was no guarantee they would believe the news. Moreover, he couldn’t be sure if those organizations had their own Dragon Eater Association moles inside. After all, back in Fude City, the entire city had practically been infiltrated by those heretics until it was like a sieve.
It was inevitable that the same thing could happen on the Inner Side. This meant there was no way to ensure the information would be effectively delivered to those organizations. And even if it were, some organizations and families probably wouldn’t be willing to get involved.
Britain is an exceedingly cold place, and the Inner Side is no different.
And while Jack and Baron had told Westminster... because Westminster’s reputation on the Inner Side had always been poor, with a history of various misdeeds like guarding the vault only to steal from it, the effect was actually worse than just hiring a random person to inform the various Law Enforcement Organizations.
Especially with the auction being suddenly moved up, the Law Enforcement Organizations and Old Blood Clans that were originally planning to attend had likely arrived in Berthelili long ago. Even if a notice was sent, they might not have received the message in time.
After all, once they arrived in Berthelili via the Illusory Cocoon, Freya had tried to use a Communication Magic Card and the like to make contact, but it was completely impossible.
The signal in Berthelili was likely being blocked by a special Alchemy Array.
As for the phone booths... as expected, the phone lines had all been cut long ago. And not just recently, either. According to a random passerby Baron questioned on the street, the phone booths had been out of order for many days.
Although it had been reported to the local government long ago, the city still hadn’t sent anyone to repair them. The people who filed the reports were even locked up by the local Demon Hunter Association.
From this, Baron deduced that the Dragon Eater Association must have been planning this for a long time. The reason they cut the phone lines in advance was likely to prevent the VIPs attending the auction today from becoming suspicious.
If Baron wasn’t mistaken, the entire city of Berthelili had probably been secretly locked down by the Dragon Eater Association.
Elder Pence’s departure now was perhaps a secret signal.
Baron and Freya exchanged a look. Freya understood immediately and leaned her head closer. Baron jumped, suddenly remembering the dog collar that was indeed still around her neck. He quietly stopped her before telling her his thoughts.
After Freya understood, she called over her cousin, Aile, and whispered a few words to him. Aile’s expression was one of disbelief. "How is that possible?"
He then glanced at Baron before calling a few of his companions to leave with him.
Baron was a little curious and asked in a low voice, "What did you say to them? They believed you that easily?"
He had assumed that a typical Old Blood Clan wouldn’t so easily believe that Traitor’s Cliff might have been targeted by the Dragon Eater Association.
"Simple," Freya said coolly. "I told them to get their asses back to Traitor’s Cliff, or I’d dock their pay."
’Simple and brutal. So this is the power of capital.’ Baron was left speechless.
"Why did Mr. Aile and his group suddenly leave... Well, this works out for me."
Suddenly, an incredibly charming voice came from the side, and a beautiful, mature woman sat down in the spot Aile and his group had just vacated.
Under the gazes of Freya, Baron, and the members of the Beowulf Clan, Barbara lowered herself into the seat with extreme elegance, one hand brushing her hip. Her eyes held a lingering, flirtatious look, and her face was flushed with a springtime bloom:
"Miss Freya, I’ve come to offer my sincerest apologies to you, and to the Attendant beside you, regarding the matter with Elder Pence."
Barbara Hestia, eldest daughter of the Hestia Family, wife of the eldest son of the Golden Clan’s Frederick Clan, a famous socialite of the Inner Side, a Black Iron Mage, and nicknamed the "Extremely Enchanting Witch."
Freya’s gaze paused for a moment on a certain... ample part of the Hestia Family’s Legitimate Daughter before she said, "I don’t accept your apology."
The reply caught Barbara completely off guard. Freya then continued, "For an apology to be sincere, Elder Pence would have to deliver it himself."
