Chapter 189: Searching For Fish
Before the three of them could hide, their figures were discovered by the approaching people.
From the direction they came, the original path was blocked, replaced by three unremarkable Survivors.
Vikram first sighed, then turned his head to glance at the biological detector.
The red dot that was previously behind had disappeared, replaced by one at the lakeside; from the number, it was likely the same group of people.
He had thought earlier that they were still some distance away and shouldn’t run into them.
Now it seemed, the group’s destination might be this lake.
The three people were all male, and none of them looked particularly old.
However, each of them appeared sallow and emaciated, clearly indicating they hadn’t been living well.
The first to speak was a Survivor with a mouth full of rotten teeth, “What are you few doing here, sneaking around?”
The newcomer’s tone was serious and impolite.
The survivor behind him saw Vikram still holding fishing gear, first frowned, then pointed at Vikram and said, “What’s the meaning of this? Come here to fish?”
“Don’t you know this place has been contracted by us? Be smart and scram, don’t force us to act.”
“Tch, you say contracted, and it’s contracted? Is your name written on this place?” Sophia argued, looking like living with Anjali, she is also becoming rebellious.
“I’ll spit on this ground, and I’ll say it’s my territory.” Anjali, seeing her side being cursed for no reason, retorted directly.
Vikram didn’t stop her, simply scanned them, and after receiving their physical information, he couldn’t be bothered to pay them any more attention.
Seeing that Anjali hadn’t finished scolding, he reminded her, “Let’s go, the water source in this broken place is polluted; just leave it to these three fools.”
They hadn’t found any normal fish that could be farmed yet, and it would be dark soon if they delayed any longer.
Since the fish in this lake couldn’t be used anyway, and adhering to the principle of avoiding trouble, he planned to turn around and leave.
Vikram originally thought this small interlude would end quickly and wouldn’t waste too much of his time.
But just as they passed by the three people, the Survivor among them who hadn’t spoken until then slowly made a sound, “Wait, who knows how long you’ve been here and how many fish you’ve taken from us.”
“You can’t just leave so easily; you have to compensate us with something before you can go.” As he spoke, his eyes constantly roamed over the three girls.
His already lewd appearance combined with that evil gaze sent a chill down even Vikram’s spine, let alone Sophia, Anjali and Divya.
This time, before Vikram could even make a move, Anjali swung her fist and smashed it into his face.
The Survivor who had just spoken hadn’t even realized what was happening when his eye socket was broken by the punch, and blood streamed down his face.
And Anjali, who had landed a punch, wasn’t about to let it go; before the other two could stop her, she immediately followed up with a kick to the man’s groin.
At the same time, she kept yelling, “I’ve been annoyed with you for a long time; I couldn’t be bothered to deal with you, but you just won’t quit, will you?”
“Thwack!” A crisp sound echoed beside them.
The Survivor, hit in the crotch, didn’t scream but clutched his groin, letting out muffled groans.
Looking at the Survivor lying on the ground half-dead, Vikram felt a similar chill in his own groin.
He thought to himself that this little fool usually seemed harmless, but her strikes were surprisingly vicious, he has just thought of giving them the Primal Evolution Fruit, but now he decided against it, till he became strong.
“What are you waiting for? Hurry up and kill these three bastards!” The Survivor guarding his nether regions first desperately retreated, and once he had reached a safe distance, he ordered his equally stunned companions.
The two snapped out of it, took out their respective weapons, and walked towards Vikram’s group, intending to attack them.
However, the outcome of the battle was never in doubt from the start; if Vikram hadn’t been too lazy to get involved, these people would have been dealt with in a flash.
Why bother leaving them until now?
As expected, with just two solid punches, the two Survivors immediately fell to the ground, unable to get up.
He had planned to leave early, intending to send them on their way immediately.
However, just now, from their words, Vikram had gleaned some information.
From their tone, they had been here before, and it didn’t seem to be their first time.
On second thought, the pollution of this lake seemed to be a recent development.
Since they had been here before, perhaps he could get some unpolluted fish from them?
Thinking this, Vikram immediately put on a benevolent expression.
“Vikram, that person seems to have run away in the confusion.” Divya pointed to where the man had retreated; it was now empty.
Seeing this, Vikram merely waved his hand casually.
With the biological detector, no matter how fast he ran, Vikram could easily find his location.
At the current time, it would soon be dark, and there wouldn’t be enough time to search for fish in other water sources.
Since there was a possibility that the other party’s Shelter might have uninfected fish caught previously, Vikram couldn’t let it go.
“It’s a good thing these blind fools provoked us, otherwise I really wouldn’t know where else to find fish.”
Looking at the slowly moving red dot on the detector, Vikram estimated that Anjali’s kick earlier had caused him considerable harm, otherwise he wouldn’t be moving so slowly.
Just walking leisurely behind him, the four of them strolled through the white snow of the Wasteland World as if taking a walk.
What was gratifying was that it was only a short walk to these people’s shelters.
The red dot in the detector quickly stopped moving. It seemed that the survivor hadn’t realized he could be tracked even after running so far.
There were no twists and turns on the way; they went straight to his forest shelter.
“Damn it, that bitch, what a vicious kick, it hurts like hell.”
As they approached, before they could even clearly see the Shelter, the curses from inside the house reached their ears first.
The voice also carried a muffled tone, as if speaking loudly would pull at something, a truly comical sound that made Vikram chuckle.
But soon, the cursing inside the house abruptly stopped, replaced by a tone of panic and unease.
“Today is truly unlucky; not only did I not get any fish fry, but I also lost two companions. How am I supposed to explain this to the higher-ups?”
“Bang–” Followed by the sound of a heavy object being pushed to the ground.
He had originally wanted to listen in a bit longer to see if he could get any more information, but hearing the person inside start smashing things, Vikram immediately broke down the door.
If he couldn’t get information, he could resort to torture; if there was indeed a fish pond inside and it got smashed, that would be bad.
Kicking open the unlatched iron door, Vikram and the others swarmed in.
The man who was smashing furniture in a fit of anger hadn’t figured out what was happening when three people suddenly appeared before him.
“You… it’s you again. Do you really think I’m easy to bully?”
